I first took my dog to Gina about 7 years ago for behavior modification when he was about a year old. Gina graciously helped us through my dog's reactive behaviors and taught me how to better understand him. Took my boy to Pacwestk9 for puppy class recently. The communication leading up to the start date was very prompt and professional. I had been in contact with them since before I even brought him home at 8 weeks just to ensure he'd be slotted for puppy class when he was old enough. The training methods were different from previous puppy classes at other facilities that I've done with my older dogs. I feel like Pacwest focused on engagement and the puppy gaining confidence, and in the process the basic commands were proofed. We completed puppy class and I couldn't be happier with what I've learned from Gina in how to communicate with my pup. My husband and I recently made an appointment and paid $75 for an evaluation for our 4 month old puppy. We made the appointment online and when my husband went to the evaluation he felt as if they were either not expecting him to show up or not interested in booking us for any of their training classes. He felt very awkward and put off by the entire experience. They did not share a schedule with him or offer to get us booked for any future training. We paid $75 to be ghosted by a business ... it's just weird and I don't know what I was paying for if they didn't plan to book us for a course at the end. Having gone through several trainers in the area, Pacwest K9 was a breath of fresh air. Finding Gina gave my husband and I lots hope in our dogs. I apologize in advance for the novel! My husband and I have two young Rottweilers strong working dogs who really needed proper training as we were not enough to get them where we wanted them to be. From our previous experience, the last trainer told us in other words that we should consider putting down our 1.5 year old or find another home for him where he would be completely isolated. Word for word, they said that there was no fixing him and that he has no emotions. I felt differently. I did not want to give up or let someone tell me that I had to put my dog down or give him away. My husband came across Pacwest K9 and when we met Gina, I was blown away. When we told her what happened, she was confused as to why they would even suggest putting our dog down and that there was a way. She knew exactly what we needed to do, answered all of my questions and concerns. Immediately I felt comfortable and from that a weight was dropped off of my shoulders. Gina is all about balance training, rewarding your dog and making them work. She is an expert when it comes to teaching your dog obedience and how to work on your dog's behavioral issues. With our problem dog, we saw instant improvement. I am kicking myself wondering why we didn't find her sooner. With the type of breed we have, I find it very necessary to go to a trainer who is all about positive reinforcement, but to also teach the dog that there are consequences when they are misbehaving. Not only does she understand dogs and how to really work and train them, she actually teaches us!!! Her dogs are very well behaved, which shows me she really knows what she's doing. My dog Lettie is from the shelter but wasn't adoptable. Before I took her home I was told by the shelter "this dog won't be capable of love". That was BS. Gina observed Lettie and sort of translated her behavior to me. Gina was straightforward about what my dog needed from me to be a confident, happy survivor. I was referred to Gina through a friend. Not only does she train dogs, she trains owners, too! Gina was very dedicated to helping my partner and I curb our Australian Cattle Dog's (ACD) dog-reactive naughty behavior, as well as reinforcing obedience. Gina used effective methods that we felt comfortable with using, too. Her individual classes are great. We were really able to work on things specific to our dog. Group classes were always fun/a valuable experience, as well. Gina always maintained control of the group, led group class in diverse environments (important for consistency in training), and led an effective session for all of the dogs in the group. Our Australian Cattle Dog's temperament and obedience improved greatly, due to Gina. As owners, we now have the knowledge of how to properly correct our dogs undesirable behaviors and strengthen the dog-owner relationship through obedience/maintenance training. We learned a lot of important/nifty commands that we use frequently in day to day life. For example, we use the "climb" command frequently when hiking and line training (to sit) when at crosswalks. The obedience commands we learned from Gina are literally second nature to our dog now. Our dog is still nervous around strange dogs, but since working with Gina our dog trusts us more and reacts less. Our ACD listens better and behaves much better, too. That being said, Gina taught us how to be better dog owners when it comes to training, how to act in a situation, and how to "communicate" with our dog. As a trainer, Gina is a really cool person to work with. She's kind and understanding, but stern and honest when she needs to be. She vibed really well with our dog, too. I have long been skeptical about the need for, or value of, a professional dog trainer. After adopting a young and ultra-energetic lab mix, however, I realized that I needed help - particularly in managing interactions with other dogs. Gina's obedience training transformed Buddy completely. Before our classes, Buddy was uncontrollable around other dogs (rearing up, barking, and spinning with excitement), several times nearly pulling me to the ground in the process. Buddy now barely glances at passing dogs and with a few verbal reminders, she ignores them entirely. We started working with Gina when our Border Collie rescue was 6 months old after a friend recommended her. My pup, Kuma, was starting to show signs of leash aggression and I wanted to get that under control right away. Gina worked with me through private lessons until she felt he was ready for Pup Fit and he's been going weekly ever since. We also attend her every other week Saturday group sessions, did a two week intensive boarding/training and she even worked with me to teach Kuma how to swim safely. **Update** 9-23-19 About 2 and a half weeks after I wrote my original review, Gina wrote me on Facebook to apologize. I guess my message had been over looked and forgotten after she originally saw it and that's why she never replied. She did say she hired someone to help her with scheduling and managing messages from clients so I hope that it helps her business run a little smoother. She offered to refund my last lesson she owed me and I just recieved my check for that in the mail. I'm glad Gina reached out and explained her side and made it right. I hope her business continues to improve. **** I want to preface this review with the fact that I think Gina is a great trainer; our dog responded to her right away and loved her. But please read my entire review - My problem is not with her ability as a trainer, but how much her communication with the owners and her scheduling ability is lacking. We had been looking into trainers for our new puppy and followed her on Instagram and Facebook for a month before we decided we wanted her as our trainer. When the time came, I sent her an email (per her website instructions) introducing us and our dog and asking for more information on puppy classes. A week went by and we did not hear from her, so I messaged her on Facebook asking if she received my email. She did respond, asking me to copy and paste my email to the Facebook message - which I did. She seemed enthusiastic and asked me to book an evaluation, which I did. The day of the evaluation we were running late, but we got there right on the dot. We had never been to the facility before so we were unsure how to get in. We walked around the building a couple of times, and then decided to call her. Apparently, she was also running "a few minutes late" and asked us to hang out, maybe take our dog on a walk. She arrived maybe 20 minutes later, to a 30 minute evaluation. Her next clients were already there waiting for her. The evaluation was pointless. We did not even discuss what the training will be like, what it included, etc. She did not even ask our names, or our dog's name. She did a couple of little tests on her to see what her personality was like. Because we were invested at this point (spent $75 dollars for a rushed appointment) we decided to go forward with puppy classes because we needed help with our dog. Her website advertises 6 puppy sessions. We got 4 sessions and 1 quick "how to use a prong collar" appointment. I'm not sure how she schedules her appointments but I got an email/text to confirm my appointment 1 time. The others I received nothing so I was not even sure if training was happening. She cancelled puppy class on July 3rd and I had to text her the day of to find out. We had to drive 90 minutes to make her classes so not knowing if classes were even happening was very annoying. One time we arrived and I mentioned my dog coughed like 2 times when she came in because she was pulling on her collar and excited to see the other dogs. She said that if my dog has kennel cough then she shouldn't be there. My dog had all her vaccines updated and was in perfect health, so being accused of not knowing my dog's symptoms or if she was sick was honestly very insulting. Before we purchased her puppy classes, we told her we were going out of town at the end of the month, but that we should be able to make all of the sessions. Because she cancelled the July 3rd class, she technically owed us a session. As the time neared for our trip, I asked her many times when I could come in for the extra session, if she wanted us to come in after our trip or if she could see us as a private lesson. She kept saying to email her. The week before we left, I texted her listing all of the times we were available before our trip and to let us know if anything worked out. She did not text me back. At the final session before our trip, I once again asked her what she would like us to do for our final lesson. She told us to email her. The Friday before our trip was over, I Facebook messaged her and asked her when we could schedule our final session. She "looked" at it, and did not respond. I have not tried again to contact her about our final training session. We would love to get our money back for the session she owes us but I know she would either ignore us or refuse to do so. She has many good reviews with clients that love her, so I am unsure what we did to piss her off and cause her to treat us this way. She is unprofessional with new clients, she is overworked, and her scheduling is very unreliable. Her package prices are too outrageous to justify dealing with all these issues. I only write this because I want others to know what our experience was like and that not everyone who works with her had a good experience. This was not worth driving 90 minutes to Tacoma once a week with a high energy dog. read more

I have a male Mal, Judah, who is aggressive towards people and dogs. With Gina we have curbed that and he can be calm and focused around people and dogs. We were tested a few weekends ago when all three of my Mals were off leash at the river. Another dog off leash came charging and barking at my dogs. That is the equivalent of a challenge to mine. They took off after the dog. However I was able to recall them, sit them and leash them. This past weekend at our club i was able to heel him through people. Sit next to people, Have other dogs close and even down him without him losing focus or showing any signs of aggression at all. As a matter of fact during training he will actually go to Gina to have her play with him with his toy. Months ago he would have wanted to bite her. Guinness is the name of my German Rottweiler. He is the first dog I have ever owned and as a pediatric psychiatric nurse, I tried to transfer those skills in raising my dog. Let me be clear- This. Does. Not. Work. When Guinness was 10 weeks old I did not heed the advice of my friends to, "get that dog trained before he eats somebody." I thought, "Guinness?! No. He's just a baby and would NEVER hurt someone!" Well fast forward one year and Guinness got kicked out of two doggie daycares, one veterinarian refused to see him again until he was neutered, he put holes in four different peoples pants, bit a veterinarian tech and wound up on a 10 day quarantine, and tried to attack multiple people, strollers, and cars. Mind you, this was a gradual progression. I began our training at PetSmart and he was an all star in the class at just 5 months old. As his bad behaviors increased I tried Positive Approach and that was as good as useless because it was all treat training with "ignoring bad behavior and rewarding positive behavior." This approach may work for none working dogs or dumb dumbs. Not Guinness. He is a machine and smarter than some people I know so ignoring his bad behavior just made him think he was Alpha. He was like, "Oh you aren't gonna say anything when I bark at people in the street? No? Ok bitch, I guess I'm in charge!" I was about to give him away, as he was interfering with my work life and prevented me and my boyfriend from having guests over to the house. The quality of life for us was rapidly declining and the dream of having a dog turned into a nightmare reality show. I called PacWest K9 and set up a meeting with Gina. My boyfriend and I both went to the meet and greet. Gina was very calm and she noted that Guinness just needed leadership. She basically said our dog was aggressive because he was anxious and insecure, he was not a lost cause, and he needed a reset. So, we handed him over to her for a month. She trained him, worked on obedience, confidence building, and corrected negative behaviors like lunging at anything on wheels and people in crowds. When we got him back he was very calm and looked at me for direction for almost everything. Gina went on walks with me and taught me how to walk him, how and when to put tension on the leash, and how his tail, ears, and eyes communicated to me how he was feeling. I'll never forget taking him to the Proctor farmers market one Saturday and having a teenage girl approach us. Normally I would have yelled at her not to approach and ran away, but this day I told Guinness to sit. Guinness sat and I told the girl that he was in training and had a history of aggression. Normally Guinness would not even let me have a conversation with someone but this day he did and he just sat there looking at me and then back at her. I told Guinness to "say hi" and he wagged his tail, licked her hand, and let her PET HIM!!! I almost died right there on the spot. We ended that meeting with a big treat and lots of praise. Guinness is still a ton of work but with Gina and her new PupFit trainer Michael and my new found knowledge of working-dog ownership Guinness is a happy and manageable dog. He is not the type of dog I will ever be able to take off leash to a park full of children or anything, but he is a great protector and at almost 2 he is turning into quite the gentleman. Gina is the best dog trainer, because she is practical and logical. If you have a dog with aggression issues or adjustment disorders I highly recommend PacWest K9 for your training needs. Gina has been great, made us feel welcome, was very accommodating with my schedule when I asked to stop by to ask (my million) questions in person, and is great with my dog. We recently moved from a house (with a yard) to an apartment building with a lot of spoiled, unruly dogs. We took in a young Belgium Milionis that was on the way to the pound to be put down for aggression issues. We had no idea what we were getting into but we could no let this happen. This dog was afraid of everything and everyone and would lung and try to bite, all from fear. We tried 4 different trainers with a little success in basic obedience, but her fear aggression was still very overwhelming. All the trainers said she would probably never get over her fear and we would never be able to take her out in public places because of this. Then we met Gina. Another trainer that was too busy to work with us recommended Gina as someone who knows dogs and can work with any problem any dog might have. We made an appointment to see if she could help us and after just 15 minutes she was handling our problem child on a leash, walking her around like they had always know each other! By the end of the first lesion I had learned how to walk my dog without so much fear of her attacking everything around us. By the end of the 2nd lesion we were out walking around the local streets with people and other dogs. My dog still had a lot of training to go through and I still have to watch her on our walks but we were doing something everyone else told us we would never do, ON Lesson 2! Over the course of 11 lessons I learned how to work with my dog and train myself on the best way to help her overcome her fears. We can now walk down town with people and dogs, we still have a little trouble with some other dogs from time to time but I now know what I need to do in those situations and the change in my dog is amazing and I now have much more confidence when working with my dog. Friends who knew our dog when we first go her can't believe she is the same dog. With the proper introduction we now have people and dog friends we can all hang out with. Gina works on both the dog and the owner so both can have the confidence to face new and stressing situations and come out the other side stronger and more balanced. She is firm with the dogs but I have never heard her raise her voice, she manages to control every situation we found our selves in just by the right attitude and I can tell you that both dogs and people respond and grow from this type of instruction. We have some home work in training over the next few weeks and then we plan on taking some additional training in nose work from Gina. I can tell you from my personal experience there in not too much that Gina can't do with your dog. We found Gina after my friend highly recommended her for all dog training needs. Grover was having issues barking at other dogs and we were worried that if he continued it would only get worse and escalate. Her intuitive approach has helped us understand our dog's issues of being scared when he barks at other dogs or misbehaves. She is great with all her furry clients as if she knows what they're thinking and really cares about each of them. We've learned lots in just the couple classes we had with Gina. Training yourself around your dog, how you react, is imperative to seeing changes in your dog's behavior and she has helped with that. Gina has been a true blessing for our dogs. Mateo, our papillon/chihuahua is a rescue that we have had for over 8 years. He is a great dog, except he has bad manners and can be aggressive. Through Gina's guidance I have learned to be a better handler. Mateo is getting good reviews in dog training class now. We recently added Maya to our family. Maya is a rescued bully corgi mix with a big personality. She has adapted to our lifestyle but has picked up some bad habits from Mateo. Gina/PacwestK9 is exactly what you hope for when looking for an experienced dog handler to help train your animal. I own a 4 year old Shiba Inu who has developed a bit of a temperament issue over the years. I used to be able to board him at local doggy play cares centers but after a couple of fights he was no longer welcome. Just when I was about to give up I was referred to Gina. After the first few classes I could see an impact in his behavior and also how I was working my dog in good and bad ways. Gina through tribal knowledge was able to show me how to better handle my dog so we could both enjoy walks, playtime, brushing, ect. Our beagle was just not working out for our family. We couldn't commit enough time to training him, and when we did try to train him nothing we tried was working. He was over a year old and still not house trained and forget teaching him manners! He was having accidents in the house all the time, not letting us know when he needed to go out, barking incessantly all day, whining and howling all night, stealing food from the kids, licking faces, and basically all the basic bad dog habits like pulling on a leash and generally not listening. As a last ditch effort, we sent him to Pacwest K9's month long boarding. When we went to see him the first time during his training we were amazed. He was a completely different dog. Gina found what worked for him and performed what is basically a miracle! Our dog can sit, stay, climb, lay down, heel, and perform a few other commands now with an e-collar. He does not whine incessantly in his kennel anymore. He is able to spend time with the family, and while he isn't as tough as we'd like he's doing very well. The follow-up visits with in home training went well, and whenever I have a concern Gina troubleshoots with me through e-mail or text quickly. We are very pleased!
