My boyfriend and I got the 12 class/4 month group class for our new puppy that we brought home in November. Overall, we had a positive experience. If we ever get another puppy, I would definitely consider coming back. Here are some things I would keep in mind if I could do it all over again: Pros: -We got lucky with the timing of when we got our puppy, and were able to get our class package at a discount for Black Friday. -Staff are very friendly and helpful whenever I called in. -I was nervous bringing in our puppy that wasn't fully vaccinated for Puppy Preschool. However, they did a great job keeping up with vaccinations as well as sanitation. -Sudee and Diva were excellent!!! While all 5 instructors that we had were experienced, I think they were the most energetic. I felt that the classes with them were more fun and went by so much faster. -Highly recommend Puppy Preschool. Our Alaskan Malamute was SO shy when we first took him to class. He hid behind the stool and would run away from other puppies that were much smaller than him. By the time he graduated, he was playing with other puppies! The classes also reminded us of all the different things that we needed to socialize/introduce our puppy to. There are so many things that I didn't think of, so I'm glad this class filled the gap. The initial months with our puppy were the most challenging, and these classes did such an amazing job stimulating/wearing him out!!! He would sleep for hours after we brought him back from class, and it was a really nice break for us to regain our sanity. It was also a nice space to ask questions and get reassurance as new puppy parents. All in all, I felt these classes were well worth it and I wish we squeezed in a couple more with our class credits. Cons: -Orientation was not very helpful. It felt like a sales pitch for the larger packages. Once we got home and tried to book online, it was unclear what the different packages were for, and we ended up booking the wrong one. Fortunately, I called in and Walker helped set us up with the correct package. -Our primary goal was to socialize our new puppy in a safe and controlled setting. For this purpose, the 12 credit group classes were more than enough. It felt like a struggle to use up our remaining credits based on the schedule/type of classes. -The website isn't user friendly, but they revamped it so it has improved. -You can't interchange credits for group classes vs playgroups, etc. read more

I rescued Ozzy, a year and half Husky/Sheppard about 6 months ago. He was at the shelter for a few months, he was reactive, pulled while walking and had trouble being still. Got him a block of ten lessons and they've helped him us so much, Ozzy is a lot better now, still have some work to get him where he needs to be but I really appreciate Haylie @ Zoom Room for her guidance through this process. read more

We adopted a dog from the Tacoma Humane Society and in the adoption paperwork there was a coupon for a free evaluation and private training from zoom room. I'm so happy that we found them and utilized that offer. The training we've received there has been amazingly helpful. It has allowed us to manage some of the more challenging (puppy) behaviors with our dog. We ended up signing up for one of their packages and it's turned out to be a great way to get some of her energy out while also building the training that she needs. We brought home a puppy last October and quickly became concerned about how she was interacting with our older Japanese Chin -- the play seemed a bit too aggressive. I signed her up for private training and playgroups at Zoom Room Tacoma, hoping to better understand what was going on. Thanks to the incredibly knowledgeable and supportive trainers, I learned the difference between healthy dog play and actual aggression. Watching her in a variety of playgroups made it clear she wasn't being aggressive -- she just loves to chase and be chased! The trainers helped me understand her behavior and gave us so much confidence as a new puppy owner. Because of everything we learned at Zoom Room, we added another puppy to our family, and the two of them play perfectly together. We've been coming to Zoom Room in Tacoma for a few months, before that we went to the Zoom Room in Seattle and we were so happy to see a location opening closer to home! The staff here is amazing. They are patient, reassuring, and enthusiastic. They're excellent at what they do! They're training dogs and their humans. The facility is great. Out front, there's a little grass patch for "taking care of business" before class. Inside, the classroom area is clean and equipped with all sorts of supplies for training and enrichment! I love the little leash clips and whiteboards for your dog's name at each station. There's also a shop with great treats, toys, and gifts. My dogs love it here. As soon as they realize where we're headed, they start whining with excitement and anticipation. (My younger dog has gone for training, my older dog has gone for holiday parties and photo shoots!) Most of all, we love their positive approach to dog training. And, it's true, they train dogs AND people who love dogs. Since taking our dogs to Zoom Room, I've felt more confident trying the techniques we've learned in class and even applying them to new behaviors. I've seen a great improvement in my dog, and I feel more bonded to her and so proud to see her grow! read more

We have had the best experiences at Zoom Room! Walker and the staff are true experts. We went in expecting we'd get some very basic pointers for training our shelter dog. Instead, we've been learning that there is no limit to what we can teach our dog to do! It's so much fun - for us and for our new dog! We started working on having our dog wipe his feet before coming indoors (so helpful when it's raining and the giant paws are muddy!) I've never trained a dog before outside of 'sit', and I'm loving how this is broken into bitesized training chunks. Recommend for everybody - reactive dogs, young and old dogs. read more

I literally could not think of a better place for dogs or their people. They have everything you could need or want, from basic obedience to super safe and structured play groups. They take the time to really get to know your pup and the private lessons are the best I have ever had (and having had 5 rescue dogs with all kinds of issues, I have a lot of experience with other private trainers :p). Speaking of the trainers, they are INCREDIBLE. They are not only the most empathetic and dog-loving people you could meet, but their training and knowledge is off the charts. Again, I have a lot of experience with different trainers and classes and as a shelter volunteer so I spend a lot of time in this arena and truly nothing compares to the team at Zoom Room Tacoma. I have learned more about my dog and about training in general in my few months here than I have in my previous years of different experiences. Plus they make everything fun; jokes and stories get thrown in during classes making the vibe chill on top of educational. My very sweet but painfully shy/hesitant/afraid pup has truly blossomed in just a couple months with Zoom Room and our visits there have become the highlight of our week. Agility came highly recommended here. There was a miscommunication on the Orientation. Didn't realize pup wasn't allowed so got turned away at the door to put the pup back in the car. Orientation was a bit of a sales pitch, would recommend going straight into evaluation instead. Pricing and schedule is online which is what you talk about during orientation. They did reach out to try and remedy the situation which was kind. Unfortunately driving 45 minutes to be turned away was not the best first introduction. read more

We've been bringing our 17 week old pup, Maddie, to Zoom Room Tacoma for a few months now, and I can't imagine our weekends without these classes! Diva and Sudee, the behaviorists we've worked with so far, are amazing and do such a fantastic job with the puppy training programs. We have learned so much about how to read our pup's body language, how to motivate positive behaviors, and how to work through some of her more difficult behaviors! Zoom Room is super fastidious about checking vaccination records and disinfecting their facility to ensure pups who aren't yet fully vaccinated have a safe experience and get plenty of socialization during crucial fear imprinting periods from 8-12 weeks. The facility also has a great shop connected to the training area, with a fantastic array of chews, treats, and toys, all priced super comparably to online vendors and pet stores. Maddie loves her "aunties" at Zoom Room, and we've had nothing but positive experiences! I highly recommend their Puppy Preschool and Puppy+ classes, especially. read more

Been attending classes at the zoom room for almost 6 months now and they've been absolutely amazing! Greatest crew of trainers who are willing to work with your pup's specific needs. I couldn't be more happy with the progress we've made with my dog in training classes and playgroups at Zoom Room. About a year ago, I adopted my dog as a puppy and she was so scared and reactive to people and dogs. We started her in "Calm Down" classes (great for reactive dogs) then moved into Obedience classes. We've also loved being able to safely socialize our dog in playgroups. The crew does a great job of ensuring your pup will be with dogs of similar size and play style so that they actually enjoy play! Brought my boy Cooper in for the grand opening intro to agility. He had an absolute ball so we decided to sign him up for the agility 1 class. We are learning so much. Trainers are great. I even brought in my other pup, that I've recently adopted, for an evaluation with Melody and we decided to get him into some private training sessions to work on some issues. The team at Zoom Room Tacoma are amazing! We've been taking our puppy to obedience classes for a year since she was about 4 months old and she and us humans have learned so much. The trainers give you really clear, helpful instructions that you can practice in class and take home with you. With lots of dedication, our pup has learned awesome skills like stay, recall, and loose leash walking. Class sizes are great for helping your dog learn to chill around others while still getting good 1:1 help from the trainer. My puppy Larry and I have been coming to the Zoom Room since it opened. They are technically excellent, kind, and patient trainers. They are so encouraging to Larry and myself in our agility training. They have many tips and tricks for new dog owners and their selection of dog items is very helpful for dealing with a variety of dog behavioral concerns. They went out of their way to invite my dog to a small breed play group and it has been a lifesaver as far as getting her energy out.
