I've been coming to Paddle Board Newport Beach for several years now and I've never been disappointed. The location is perfect, it's right by the bay and they always have kayaks and paddleboards ready for you by the water. Parking isn't ideal (it's Newport Beach, so this is expected) so be prepared to pay and park. I love how smooth and easy booking and reservations are. You book online through their website and it's always simple, straightforward, and easy to do. You can add things like the waterproof phone things (or add when you get there in person). They also send your waivers and such ahead of time so you can sign them ahead of time so that when you get to the location, you literally just get on the kayak/paddleboard and go. The workers here are always really chill, nice, and welcoming. They offer amenities like the waterproof necklaces you can wear to bring your phones along (can confirm - they work). They're not super strict on time, and I like the added hose they have outside their building that you can use to hose down the sand and such if needed. Just be aware that they don't offer much by way of instructions so if you're a first-timer, watch a video or two ahead of time. I do think it's a little intuitive so I wouldn't worry too much. Amazing deal on groupon especially for the kayak. I love this place, the staff is just so chill & it's a decently quiet space to hang out on the water ( just watch out for boats). Parking is waay better now that it's off season. Also they now keep valuables at the desk vs needing to buy a locker. For first timers, they dont really give much of a tutorial, you're just going to have to learn on the spot ( maybe watch YouTube), but they do help push u off and dock. Its also really fast to get onboarded, just make sure you reserve an appointment online and fill out the waiver. I still recommend this for paddle boards over kayak. Benefits of kayaking is you can kinda just float without always needing to paddle and balance, you can bring stuff on the boat ( depending on how you paddle, water can still splash in for wet bottoms). But you do have to configure how you sit. The only thing was, the kayaks are a little bit of a thinner plastic/ you are not strapped in so it feels less stable/more sensitive than the ones you might buy yourself. Looking for paddle board rentals and came across this place. Was super fast and was attended right away when we arrived at our appointment. Rental area is really close to the paddle boarding area that you literally walk there. They have cubbies in case you need to keep items there like extra clothing and will keep valuables in a more secure place where others can't reach them and only the staff. We booked paddleboarding and kayaking on their website. The booking process was easy and make sure to sign the waiver that'll be attached to your email. Parking can be tough since they don't have a lot of parking spaces, but the day we went, there were plenty of parking spaces. It is also pay to park. Once we arrived, we checked in and you can change into your swimwear in the restroom. Everyone will also wear a life jacket. The only downside was we were given no instructions on how to kayak or paddleboard. Some of us had never paddleboarded or kayaked before, so it was a bit odd that no instructions were given. We just went out on our own and tried our best. It was still fun and enjoyed being out in the bay. There are plenty of boats that will be on the bay too, so be careful and on the lookout. When we came back, we saw a group that was given instructions on how to paddleboard. So it seems like our group unfortunately didn't get the instructions, it's not that they don't provide it. Other than that, everything else was great. Tip(s): - Book your reservations via their website - If you want to cancel your reservations, cancel 24 hours ahead of time (cancel via calling or email) - Pay to park - When you head out, remember your surroundings because we got lost trying to find the way back to where we started - One restroom available inside the place read more

First, the staff is fantastic. They were attentive, and we experienced no issues with the service they provided. The shop's location is convenient, with pay parking available on the streets and a nearby parking lot. They launch from the 15th Street Pier, and the small beach is perfect for those who want to relax on the sand while others paddleboard. I only gave three stars because of the equipment. Some paddle boards are old and may be waterlogged. Many of the paddles are broken, as the clamps fail to hold the length or prevent the paddle from twisting. Unfortunately, you may not notice this until you are out on the water, and those who have never paddleboarded may not realize their equipment is defective. Paddleboarding is not difficult, but poor equipment can diminish the enjoyment. If you go, make sure your paddle is in perfect working order and that the paddleboard is not old and squishy. read more

We have been going here for years but as of late, it is not great. The kayaks are old and dirty. The seats are worn out and the top of the kayak and seats are covered in sand. The paddles are trashed with the water stoppers not staying in place. For this kayak, we were both sitting in water the entire time so not sure if it had a leak or just a cheap kayak as we usually don't sit that low. Seats had no back support. Booked a Groupon on Black Friday and called 21 times to make a reservation for paddleboarding; finally got a response saying winter hours in effect & no one is in the office to answer calls! (Their winter hours were NOT on their website! Site said everyday, 9-6! So did their answering machine! ). Then made online reservation for Dec 22- which we have an email confirmation for! We showed up and the PLACE IS CLOSED! We tried calling- no answer; we emailed & they respond they closed because of unsafe weather conditions! We took a video of the bay and sky; calm waters & blue skies! Walked to a competitor, Balboa Fun Tour, who said "Yes, we have folks out on the water! Would we like to go?" Paddle Board Newport Beach, we had a confirmed reservation and had paid! But your email to us AFTER WE HAD ALREADY ARRANGED CHILD CARE, DRIVEN DOWN THERE, CONTACTED YOU AND WERE STANDING AT THE ENTRANCE IN FRONT OF A CLOSED SHOP IS SIMPLY HORRENDOUS BUSINESS PRACTICE. We been to other places to Kayak and paddle board before. This is the first time, that our hands and our upper legs are all dark and black after an hour of kayaking. I think the paddle's paint are coming off from the paddles handles? One of our friend's clothes get darker too, but we are glad that they did came off after couple times of washing. Their Kayak and paddle boards are smaller than the one we had before too and they don't look like they are well maintained. Their price are not cheaper, but they are very easy to book. I got a Groupon for this place as a gift. You can book online and input the code there. Pretty easy process. They offer rental water proof phone cases and bags. We bought our own, so we did not use their stuff. When we got there, some customers were complaining that their stuff still got wet (including phones) from their rental, which is scary. Customer service is lacking. The guys at the shop didn't seem to care and weren't friendly at all. They told us there were life jackets on a rack outside and there weren't. When we went back in and asked again, the guy repeated the same thing. We told him there was nothing there. Luckily, some customers returned right then and just handed their life jackets to us. We then walked from the shop down to the shore. The guy on the shore who educates on the area and how to ride was cool. He seemed to actually kind of enjoy his job. My board was in good condition. My fiancé's board was falling apart. I'd honestly be embarrassed to keep that board in use if I was the business owner. See the pic. However, it still got the job done. We booked for 10am on Sunday so we could be one of the first on the water. The only slight bummer was one of my friends told the instructor it was her first time and he really didn't give her much information to go off of. Luckily its mostly about balance and figuring out how to navigate with the paddle. I had a great time, it does get busy (boats, kayaks, sail boats, etc.) the later it gets so it does get a little crowded but its still a good time. 06/24/2021: I had a lot of fun my first time here so I invited my other friends to try out paddle boarding! They both do not know how to swim so they wore their life vests!
