My…read morefavorite part is the paddle there.. when arriving to the island after your short paddle, Jon boat ride, put put , or jet ski ride over you find yourself on a quaint beach. It is one of the most peaceful places to visit. Around the island you look for sharks teeth and you are guaranteed to find at least a small handful... There's also a center of the island at low tide that you can build a fire on, camp on, and just hang out in the cool shade. I don't actually know if you're supposed to camp on it or build a fire on it but it's obvious that people do. Definitely sleep in a Hamic because the island goes underwater at high tide. I absolutely recommend to anyone who comes and visits! We try to go most weekends.. Some of the kayak rental shops around town will meet you at the River so you can kayak over.

The weather was perfect and we saw tons of wildlife - birds, crabs, hermit crabs, stringrays, fish, and heard that there were dolphins around (unfortunately didn't get to see any). They provided life jackets and had waterproof bags that you can rent to put your belongings in. Overall an enjoyable experience, would definitely recommend!

The short kayaking trip is 1/4 of a mile and does not take that long at all. You have to pass over one main area but it is not too hard to spot the boats. Definitely do not go on a windy day. The wind and current will be pulling you and it will be an arm workout you never expected. We had pretty good weather; sunny, light wind; nothing crazy ! It was a nice day. Definitely would do again. I visited on a warm weekday afternoon between Christmas and New Years and saw only a few other folks out on the trail. There's a big loop that's about 1.5 miles, or you could do a shorter loop. The trail is mostly shaded and quite flat, making it an easy stroll and accessible for kids (including strollers) and people who need low intensity hikes; there are many benches along the way. Many parts are wooden bridges out over the marshland; at the right time of day you can see fiddler crabs in the water. (If it's recently rained, don't go at high tide; parts of the trail may be wet or muddy!) You'll find a really nice variety of trees and micro climates- the grasses and small trees in the marsh land are quite different from the hardwood forests and pines just a few feet further inland. This trail would be especially lovely at sunrise or sunset. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the Emerald Isle/Swansboro area!

The worst place you could possibly choose on a "vacation". Today we were taken out with insane…read morewinds, rip currents, and a "tour guide" that was too pre-occupied with his Instagram and Snapchat than the group. I was about 30 minutes behind the group by myself nearly the entire time. It was the most challenging trip any of us (11 of us) have ever been on. The entire trip was a struggle and most of us suffered. We wholeheartedly believe we shouldn't have been taken out that day and I think the company was more concerned with making money than our safety. At one point my mother in law couldn't go any further and the "guide", tanner, was so far ahead that he had no clue anyone was behind and struggling. She was exhausted, worried that she'd have a heart stroke, and unable to move forward. One of us had to paddle up to let this incompetent "guide" to help her. He didn't have a tow rope, in fact, I'm not even sure what the point of him being there was. For half of the trip the current and winds were so strong that we were paddling and still moving backwards. It was irresponsible for them to allow us to go out. When Tanner was confronted by the group he quite literally said "but I checked the internet and it said the winds were 10mph". This company DOES NOT test the water before taking a massive group of beginners. At the very least he should have found a route that wasn't AGAINST the wind and current the entire time. If I could give them 0 stars I absolutely would. Unbelievable. Go to the place across the street instead.

Two days later and I'm back ordering a board from them. It's a nice little shop with pretty much everything you would need. Be sure to check out the consignment section...saw a cosmetically beat but great condition Hawaii Pro Designs longboard sitting in the back, in addition to a variety of short boards in varying conditions with varying prices. George is awesome. Send him your business. I've stopped into most other "shops" in the area and been brushed off, leaving me feeling like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman (minus the prostitution). Lesson to other shops in the area...don't judge a book by its cover - you just missed out on $2k in sales this time around (not to mention future business), as I'll never go back to your establishments.
