For us the wait time was actually only about 1/3 of the quoted wait time, which was a pleasant surprise so make sure you are in the area. The bruschetta was a bit too rough and dry and a bit bitter for my taste and the cacio & Pepe was a bit greasy and too thick for my taste. I had a rocket and mint salad with a light, bright dressing. You should get this healthy, refreshing salad. For my main course I opted for the fettuccine with pistachio and pesto. It was terrific! Maybe I'm just not a pasta person, but I really didn't get the hype with this place. I went for dinner on a drizzly Thursday evening, and was seated in an incredibly cramped area, on an uncomfortable stool- which was not adjustable- with nowhere to put my rather heavy bag and coat. So, comfort is not their number one priority. The service was a bit lukewarm, and to be honest, so was the food. The menu was also rather unimpressive. Under normal circumstances, a short menu means really good food, but nothing on there really drew too much attention. I think it needs to be mentioned that the food is mostly prepared beforehand, and the dishes come quickly to your spot at the counter. Of course, it also means there's a chance your food might be on the colder side, and you need to let them know, as cold pasta is no bueno. Seeing as I couldn't understand most of the names on the menu, given they were all in Italian, I simply asked my server to bring me whatever they were most known for. It's called 'Pici Cacio & Pepe.' Sounds fancy; it's not. It was a simple plate of lukewarm cheesy pasta with a dash of black pepper. I will admit, the chewy texture of the pasta made it close to perfect, but the overall flavor was nothing to write home about, in my opinion. I also noticed the olive oil they were using wasn't the best quality. However, the sourdough bread wasn't bad, if a bit on the sour side. Overall, I feel there were more cons than pros to my experience, so I definitely wouldn't come here more than once. But, if you're the kind of person who loves pasta more than comfort, you might not walk away as disappointed as I was. This spot was super cool! We were in borough market and looking for somewhere to sit down, and this place was recommended to us by someone who had been before. The service was great, and we didn't have to wait too long for a table. It is a small restaurant though - we put our names on a waitlist before going over. I just couldn't decide between the Pappardelle with 8 hours Dexter beef shin ragu and Pici cacio & pepe, and briefly contemplated getting both. So glad I went with the pappardelle (although I'm pretty certain I would've been pleased either ways)! The pasta was perfectly al dente (firm yet chewy), which allowed the sauce to encase and cling onto the pasta for an incredibly tasty and evenly coated pasta, bite after bite. The beef was tender and flavorful and the sauce was seasoned perfectly; literally nothing could've made it better. Had I been at home, I would've licked the plate clean! I've researched places to eat near Borough Market that was delicious and affordable. This place was it. They had a QR code that you had to scan to put your name on the queue. The wait time was around 45 mins or so and we went on a late Monday morning. (Granted it was also Easter holidays too.) I had a hard time figuring out what to order but with recommendations from the waiter I ordered a picI e cacio Pepe and my husband ordered their ravioli. Having had a good amount of wine the night before I opted for water whilst my husband ordered their cloudy lemonade. He said it was some of the best he's had and so he ordered some more. For an appetizer we ordered the bruschetta and sourdough bread with olive oil. The bread itself was so divine and it soaked up the oils from the tomatoes and made it that more delicious. We both loved it and split the last alice of bread. As for the sourdough bread itself we used it to soak up the wonderful sauces from the pasta that we had ordered. The ravioli was freshly cooked and the sauce was very light yet delicious. I've never had cacio e pepe but was delighted by the flavor and texture. The firmness of the pasta was a bit on the tougher side for me but not enough to turn me off completely. I would definitely order a side of the sauce if they had the option. The space inside of Padilla was small and the outside dining area could easily seat 12 people. It was a relatively nice weather day and so sitting outside wasn't so bad. The bill came to £58 for the two pasta, bread, appetizer and lemonades. We'd recommend going here if you can squeeze in a little bit of time. read more

This popular pasta place has been on my to-eat for a while as I gave up queuing several times seeing the long queue outside the Borough Market branch. Thanks to my friend who arrived at 11:30, we managed to get a table at 11:45 on a Saturday! If you are arriving before 12:45, head straight to the restaurant and scan the QR code at the entrance. Knowing it's our first visit, a staff members kindly introduced their pasta dishes in detail which was really helpful for a picky eater like me. (w/ 12.5% service charge) Tagliarini with Dorset crab, chilli & lemon (£16)A lightly seasoned dish with fresh crab meat that whetted my appetite. It's not very spicy and I like the long-lasting taste of lemon zest. Nice but not as overwhelming as the ravioli. Ravioli of Westcombe ricotta with Sardinian tomato sauce (£12.5) Chewy ravioli stuffed with ricotta with a pleasant dairy flavour. The tomato sauce was so flavourful with a hint of basil. Simply amazing! Salted caramel & chocolate tart (£6) Don't skip dessert because this tart is Phenomenal! The chocolate layer is crispy outside and gooey inside. I hate desserts that are too sweet but this tart was just perfect as the thin layer of salted caramel along the crust balanced well with the bitterness of chocolate. If you don't mind waiting 45 minutes for it, then cool, but honestly, handmade pasta is one thing but if it doesn't deliver in the overall taste of your dish, then who cares if it was handmade or not. Ordered two pasta dishes, one that looked like a Bolognese called Pappardelle with 8 hours Dexter Beef SHin Ragu (but didn't have the taste of a bolognese.) The texture threw me off. Looking for a quick bite out on my first night in London but didn't know what to eat. I walked by this place two or three times before stopping to check out the menu. I don't often eat Italian food out. Anyway it was me over and I couldn't find anywhere else that really peaked my interest and it turned out to be a really good meal started out with the Barata had the Pandella for an entrée and the manager provided me an espresso which I think that me up most the night. I was sitting downstairs and they make the food upstairs and send it down by a dumbwaiter so I will say that the food was delicious but the pasta wasn't as hot as I had hoped. I didn't say anything it was a big deal but inside site I might've. Anyway the whole meal just came out to about 30 pound and I left with a full tummy and nothing to complain about. On the would I eat there again scale I would say yes that's pretty close to the office that I work at in London but again I don't eat Italian very often so I probably do look for other places first. I did finish up with a nice glass of Chianti which you can just discern in the top of one of the pictures. We order an appetizer to share plus a pasta. We ordered the slow cooked spinach which it was cold. I don't know if it was supposed to be cold because I thought it was cooked to ordered. Yes, I understand it's an appetizer, but not all appetizers are cold and it didn't specify it'll be a cold dish. We just wanted some vegetables. They also sprinkled salt on top of it and it was very salty. Then for the pasta we ordered the Pappardelle with 8 hr Dexter. That was a pretty popular one but it was kind of a disappointment. The beef was very salty. I mean very. Even if you eat with the pasta, it was still too salty for me. I tried the pasta itself. It was a weird texture to me. When I bite into it, it felt was it wasn't cooked all the way through but when you look at it, it is fully cooked. It just wasn't what I liked. Padella is the best Italian restaurant I've been to and funny enough, I ate here just after travelling across Italy. It's kind of ironic that I find the food here better than the motherland haha. This could also be due to my unrefined palate so who knows. As a heads up, the food here is not very Instagram ready, but it definitely tastes like it should be viral on social media. I wish i wrote down the names of the dishes but I believe i had the Cacio e Pepe. They offer limoncello which is always a nice way to end your Italian meal. ordered 4 pastas, a bottle of wine, 2 coffees and 2 limoncello all for under £80. ingredients so fresh and well prepared it feel as if your robbing the place with these prices. The best pappardelle I've ever had. I don't want to overhype Padella, but if it's available then order the pappardelle with beef shin ragu. The pappardelle pasta itself was perfection. The pasta was nicely seasoned and it had a great texture. I never truly understood the hype about fresh pasta until Padella. The pasta has a nice bite to it with some resistance. Other places think they are making pasta "al dente" but these other restaurants are just making it hard, dry, and/or raw. The beef shin ragu had a nice balance of tomato, meat, and seasonings. Had I known that it might be years before I get to have pasta like this again, I would have ordered two plates of the pappardelle for myself. I also enjoyed the pici marjoram. Another delicious al dente pasta. I haven't seen this thick, curly shape before. The marjoram sauce highlighted the pasta. Of the pastas we tried, the crab pasta was in third place. After the pappardelle and the pici, the pasta just seemed so soft in this dish. The crab and seasonings were excellent though. My favorite part of the experience was sitting at the bar right in front of where the head chef and other chefs prepare everything. It was impressive to see how focused and serious everyone was. The little bundles of fresh pasta are beautiful. The dishes are prepared in very small batches. I'm thinking one to three portions max per pan. It really helps with quality control. Props to the head chef. He carefully inspected every dish that went out. He even stopped another chef and made them redo the pasta because the sauce wasn't the right consistency. If you are visiting London like we were and are hesitant to go to an Italian restaurant, then go ahead and try Padella. Sorry if I overhyped this place, I've just had a lot of meh pasta since Padella. Like other reviewers, I still think about Padella longingly. __ After a couple hours of eating many foods at the Borough Market, we turned the corner to find all these cool kids waiting in line for a restaurant that wasn't even open for dinner yet. It was at least an hour before opening. We did a quick yelp and google search and decided that we also wanted to wait in line. I'm not sure how they do their seating system nowadays, but they should just stick to the line - first come first served - instead of a combo waitlist and line. Oh Padella, you're everything I was expecting and more! I both read about and heard about Padella before my trip so I marked it on my list of places to try. I came on a Sunday early afternoon and easily got a seat downstairs. I ordered the appetizer on special, a carpaccio that was just right to whet my appetite. The aged beef ragu papadella is their main dish, but I was not impressed by the pasta. It didn't seem well cooked since some parts of the pasta were harder than the others. The beef also tasted like regular minced beef. Most of the flavor comes from the parmesan. I had a bite of the crab tagliatelle which suited my taste more. read more
