After many years having Steve Abrew doing our tax returns here in Camas, WA,l last years were never filed and a return of $392.00 was never sent to us. I've tried and tried calling, and emailing and have had no result. I feel that this is inconsiderate and unprofessional. If you aren't going to do tax prep, just send out an email to tell your clients to find someone else!!! Now it is 2025 and I'm forced to look for another tax prep. Ok, I had my suspicions last year, but now it's official: Padgett staff may look human, but they are really Martians from Planet Tax masquerading as earthlings! Tax time is here again and some changes in circumstances needed a eye for taxes that I could trust. After laying out what's happening head tax Martian Tommy whisks his eyes over the details, pupils wincing at the speed of light and *BOOM* out pops a potential tax liability of $12k that I hadn't thought about!?! From talking to several people I know who use Tommy I'm sure that he is a knowledgeable accountant. He did a good job on my return, and was able to coach me through several issues I had. Unfortunately there was a serious miscommunication around fees that forced me to reduce my review to 3 stars. I was getting satisfactory service from my accountant in San Diego, but when I moved back to Seattle I thought I would change to someone local in case anything needed to be done in person. One of my best friends recommended Tommy, so I called to connect with him. Based on what I told him about my circumstances, he thought fees would be in the $400-$500 range. That's double what I was paying in SD, but I thought I might get some better proactive guidance to make up for that difference. I'm sure there are things I could be doing better in the tax arena. We went back and forth quite a bit to get all of my information together, admittedly because I was not as organized as I needed to be. There are some reasons for that, but suffice to say I could have done much better compiling the info he requested. At the end of the process I got my bill, and it was $1,115. I pointed out our discussion about the price early on, and Tommy's counter was that I was disorganized with my documentation and there were several complexities to my return that I was not clear about in our initial discussion. These are both valid points, but would have to be brought up well before the end of the return was filed for me to be ok with the increase. My price more than doubled without anyone having a conversation with me about why. I wouldn't hesitate to work with Tommy as long as fees are discussed in detail in the beginning. I know about as much about accounting as I know about auto repair, so I think it's fair to expect full disclosure from either around what's being done and how much it will cost. read more

When we were facing our first married tax return and I was moving my business to WA, our friends recommended Tommy immediately. I was introduced to Padgett Business Services back in 2013 and I started working with Tommy, Lori and team in 2014 and yes, I am still working with them. You don't just work with a group of people for 6+ years unless that group provides you with a tremendous value that you wouldn't have had otherwise. I used to do my own taxes until I met Tommy and team. After reviewing my taxes Tommy realized that I was leaving money on the table in my returns and offered to re-do the past 3 years' taxes. I agreed and within a few weeks I received refunds from IRS from my return from 3 years ago. I was impressed, I was hooked and I became a loyal customer. This isn't a large tax firm with 100s of people. It's a small boutique firm with personalized services that has spoiled me for 6+ years. As soon as I start to receive my tax documents, I just drop by the office to say hello to Lori, Tommy, Denise and a couple of other folks who are always happy to see me drop by. We have a little chit chat while I drop the documents off, and I don't drop them off in a very organized fashion. Their team takes those documents and starts to organize them efficiently and professionally in my tax package. Btw, I don't HAVE to go their office to drop stuff off, I can mail it in but I like to go in there and say hello.
