Having been a pizza aficionado for many years I was intrigued when I saw that they use a blend of 00 Caputo flour and a sourdough yeast starter! The result is an amazing crust that leaves one feeling light and good. This is some of the best pizza I have ever had. They offer several traditional varieties from margarita to spinach and ricotta with mushrooms. All the pizzas are tasty, fresh, and wonder. Be sure to save room for dessert. I had the lemon polenta cake with soft serve ice cream. It was so good that I went back two days later and another pizza and the chocolate fudge cake with ice cream. Paesano is one of my favourite places in Glasgow. It is a gem, but I wouldn't exactly call it a hidden gem. Even though it is tucked away from the main shopping precinct, it is always crowded! But we have always managed to find a seat somewhere inside the huge restaurant. Once you do find a table, you are given menus. The menu is very simple. There are about 6 or 7 different choices of pizza, a small pasta menu, specials and a gelato menu. I always go for the no. 2 (a margarita) and get vanilla ice cream with raspberry sauce. Both are delicious but sometimes the pizza can be a bit burned if the start are in a mad rush to keep up with orders. There is an open plan kitchen with an old fashioned Neapolitan style clay oven to cook the pizza. If you sit near the kitchen, you will have a good show while you sip your drink and wait for your meal. Tables are crammed into every nook and cranny and the place goes quite far back. I thought there would be more seats downstairs but that was just where the toilets were. They are very nice toilets, to be fair! The only problem I would have is the volume is just far too loud. On top of the general chatter, the music is always turned up really loud and on Saturdays it feels more like Sleazy's on Sauchiehall Street than a laid back pizza place in Merchant City. But I cannot let this affect my review, so therefore Paesano gets a 5*. read more

I've heard quite a lot about Paesano from friends and fellow yelpers. Everyone seems to love it. I like a good pizza so, naturally, I was curious to see what all the fuss is about. And wow... was I impressed! First things first, they don't take reservations (as far as I know) so I know getting a table can be tricky sometimes. A friend and I went there for an early dinner around 5:45 so there was still plenty of free tables. By the time we were leaving all tables were full and a small queue was forming. We were served very quickly - not much waiting between being shown to a table, getting our drinks and getting our pizzas. In terms of choice - there were around 8 pizzas to chose from, so not a massive variety, but the options were quite good. You can also opt for buffalo mozzarella instead of standard mozzarella for an extra £1.5 per pizza. All pizzas were very reasonably priced, from £5 to about £10. And, oh my God, were the pizzas good. I opted for the spicy salami pizza, while my friend got the fennel salami one. We both opted for the buffalo mozzarella. While I wasn't wowed by the buffalo mozzarella (I kept wondering if it was actually buffalo mozzarella...), the pizzas were absolutely fantastic! I even ate the crust which was puffy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. I NEVER eat the crusts. The base was thin and the toppings were plenty. I now have two great pizza places to go to in Glasgow... and can't wait for their West End place to open doors! read more

I've been meaning to write about this place for a while, but I wanted to visit a few times before to see if it's consistently good. It was one of those places where I went to with the highest of expectations that absolutely lived up to it. And not just the pizza, which is brilliant, but the service and the place itself as well. They don't have a huge selection of pizzas, but you don't really need it, since it's so good, I was happy with the simplest of pizzas. They have 8 basic choices, and a few specials that change regularly, but all of them are excellent. You really don't need to worry, anything will be good. As for the atmosphere, it's simple but friendly and welcoming, I like how the places is arranged and how the lighting is done. The service is quick and friendly, I never had a problem with it. And here's the best part - for all this, you won't need to pay a lot. The prices are entirely reasonable and the pizzas are of a good size, so you don't need the bank to have a brilliant meal. My only tiny complaint is their no reservations policy - it's usually fine to just walk in and you can almost certainly get a table, I just wish I could reserve a table for larger parties or when I have guests to whom I'd like to show this wonderful place. Anyway, I wish I could give 6 stars, and I hope this place will be around for years to come. read more

Paesano, Paesano, wood-fired pizza in a pizza hut! (Btw, if you're yet to go, it's anything but a hut!). OK, so I know I'm a bit late jumping on the Paesano bandwagon, but all good things come to those who wait and this was worth the wait! First off, I love the décor in here! Lots of wood, a giant PAESANO in lightbulbs, dim lighting giving it a lovely cosy warmth and open kitchen. On the table, giant peeled tomato tins had been recycled to house the cutlery and pizza cutter (well spotted Lee S!), quirky yet cool! It was a hectic, Saturday night but once seated, it didn't feel hectic or crowded at all. The menu is fairly small - 8 pizzas all £10 or less, some sides (get the olives, they're huge!) and a nice mix of wines and beers. They also have daily specials up on the wall which I opted for; Parma Ham, rocket and parmesan, oh my, my mouth is watering just thinking back to it! Loaded with ham, actually loaded with all toppings and perfect crusts too, not too doughy and not too crispy. Definitely needs tackled with a knife and fork however as the base is quite soft after soaking up all the lush tomatoey goodness. Word of warning though, they have chilli oil for drizzling and dipping...now I like a bit of a kick but wowsers, this oil seriously packs a chilli punch! Too much for me. Also feel I need to mention service. As I said, it was packed, but we weren't left waiting ages to order as there seemed to be plenty of staff on and l kid you not, 5 minutes after our order was taken, our pizzas arrived! My dropped star is only because of one thing...you can't book in advance. And I understand that, but we were queued out the door waiting on a table becoming free with about 4-5 parties in front of us and had it not been a lovely night out I would've jogged on elsewhere I'm afraid. read more

All my friends love this place and to be fair the pizza is pretty good. There aren't many options but to be fair the focus is on simple quality pizza from well sourced great toppings. The pizza dough itself is make from some form of sour dough. It's very tasty and weirdly was the best bit of the pizza (I'm normally all about toppings). The tomato base was great and I upgraded to buffalo mozzarella on advice of my friends and it was really tasty. For me there was a bit too much extra virgin olive oil on most of the pizzas and mine was a bit soggy, you had to eat it with knife and fork. This for me is what reduces my review from 5 to 4 stars. But still it's definitely one of the best pizzas around and id recommend it! read more

The most hyped about pizza place in Glasgow, how could a fat pie like myself not visit. First thing I noticed about the place was its popular, insanely popular. When we arrived the queue was out the door - all the tables had people sitting at them and the ample sized reception area was packed. At the time of my visit Paesano didn't take bookings, this may have changed. Despite the massive queue the staff made sure we knew how long the wait would be and took our name to call us when a table was available. They couldn't be any more friendly and helpful. Inside the restaurant is gorgeous. Lots of untreated wood, exposed bricks, and cold concrete. It really impressed me. Huge special and dessert boards hang from the wall to show alternative options and whet your appetite. Sitting at my table I was less than impressed. The table isn't big enough for pizzas, sides, drinks, condiments, and the bucket the cutlery comes in. The tables are also horribly close to other tables, I could lick the neighbouring tables food without leaving my seat. The menu has a good selection of pizzas and allow customisation. The pizzas themselves were a mixture of elation and disappointment. The toppings are fresh and delicious. The base was hands down the tastiest pizza base I have ever tasted. However for a pizza restaurant it failed massively on one of the main ingredients of a pizza - the tomato sauce. It was sparse in its application and what little I got was quite flavourless and took away from the other great ingredients, rather than rich and mouth watering that pizza should be. Update - after some urging from friends I decided to give this another go. What a turn around on the food. When the pizza first arrived it was watery on top and I was worried. I'm guessing it was just tomato juice and liquid from the mozzarella as while it didn't look the greatest, it tasted phenomenal. My main gripe about the place was gone - the tomato sauce was plentiful and delicious. Another thing I realised is just how cheap this place is. It is notan overstatement to say this is hands-down THE BEST pizza I have ever had. You know they're serious about their food because they even tell you where their flour comes from!! The crust is really good - soft, yet charred and crispedon the edges. The mozzarella they use is unmatched, and the fennel sausage we had was delicious. Reasonably priced, too. Beautiful place/ Very friendly stuff and surprisingly we did not wait much for our order. I order the most popular pizza, the one with mushrooms and it was delicious. I never expected a pizza melting in my mouth, it was so crunchy and soft ... loved it. I have no idea how these guys do it, but we created something special. I will come back soon for sure. I was VERY excited to go to Paesano. VERY excited! The reason for this is that for someone who eat vegan, and is also normally gluten-free, I rarely have pizza. Pizza really is a very occasional treat for me. Paesano use sourdough for their bases, which means no sneaky dairy, and also makes the wheat a bit more digestible, and they are also very happy to lose the cheese from your pizza - no strange looks, no double checking. The waitress we had knew exactly what vegan meant, and we chatted about how lucky we are that Glasgow is so vegan-friendly. We arrived on a Saturday early evening, and the place was jam-packed, with people waiting at the door. We were very fortunate though, as they had space for one couple, and seated us immediately. I love the set up of this place. It's casual, with folks sat at communal benches. On paper, this sounds hideous, but actually works very well - even though we were sat with other people, we still felt like we had enough space and privacy to ourselves. The atmosphere is buzzing, it's just thrumming with customers and staff, and is very cosy and warm. The pizza ovens are open plan at the back, so you can see the chefs at work, which I always enjoy. The menu is very simple - I think there was a choice of 8 pizzas, with a couple of specials. I had the roasted pepper and spinach (without the cheese). It arrived super quickly, and it was oh so delicious. I really was very happy to be eating my pizza! I didn't have dessert (no vegan options) but I was full and very content from my pizza, and left happy. Desperate to return! read more

So I am not the biggest pizza fan. It is usually pretty far down my list of things to eat. A few friends of mine were visiting and absolutely love this place so we all went. They don't take reservations so you just need to turn up. It was a Friday night and there was 8 of us and obviously it was absolutely packed, and there were loads of people standing outside as well. We were told to come back in 30 minutes. This wasn't bad at all so we went to grab a pint. We head back and we're seated at a table right in front of the pizza ovens. Drinks orders were fairly quick, we ordered 2 bottles of nice red for the table. At first I wasn't sure how to feel about there being only 8 types of pizza on the menu but you can customise them with any toppings so an extra cost. I got their number 2 pizza (I think this was mozzarella with basil) and swapped their regular mozzarella for their Buffalo Mozzarella, and then added garlic and ricotta. This came to £8 which is a great price! When all of the pizzas were coming out you could just smell the basil. I am a huge fan of basil! Mine only had a few leaves and smelled great but I would've liked some more for the taste. The table also had super spicy chilli oil which I was careful to only use a little of as I am not the biggest spice fan. The buffalo mozzarella was amazing and I'm so glad I chose to swap it in. I also loved the thin base and the crusts were nice. I didn't finish my crusts but my friends did! For dessert I decided to go for their oyster. Their ice cream is delicious. I am unsure if it is homemade or not. My friends all chose the affogato. I was pretty jealous once it came out. It wasn't your typical affogato with one scoop of ice cream and shot of espresso. It's already together. I would totally come back here the next time pizza is mentioned. I think it's so amazing how popular they are with such a small menu. It's funny because of where we were sitting, I thought they only had 1 toilet which was annoying as a lot of people needed to go. Turns out there are more toilets downstairs! A tardis this place. Wow, I walked in and was completely unprepared for the scale. It's massive, and actually more like a Berlin bier halle with its long communal tables than a pizzeria. At the far, and I mean faaaarrrrrr end is the pass, behind which are two imposingly industrial-looking log-fired ovens specially made in Napoli. This could be good! The Morretti isn't cheap, £4 for a schooner, but the pizzas are. There wasn't a huge amount of topping on mine, but because of the incredibly thin sourdough base there was enough. I went for the Salami pizza with extra chilli and it really was good. Plenty of sloppy tomato sauce, mozzarella and a nice kick from the chillies and sausage. I did augment it with a little chilli oil though. The style was straight out of Naples, I had a diavolo pizza at an award-winning pizzeria there recently, and it was so similar, but the sourdough in Paesano was even better, a really soft and tasty base, and I think the most authentic pizza experience in Glasgow right now. Even the veggie option my partner went for was really flavoursome, it was packed with toppings, she gave me a slice when she couldn't finish. Do I have any negative comments? Only one. Picking up that floppy pizza was too difficult. Do I care? No, because that's what a knife and fork are for. read more

Feel like I need to update this, as in two months i think i have been there for a pizza at least other 10 times LOL yes, I am a pizza addicted! Still 5 stars for me, Paesano definitely makes one of the best pizza I have ever tasted, not only here Glasgow but overall. Ingredients are authentic, the tomato sauce and buffalo mozzarella are fresh and juicy, for me there is no comparison to any other places. I normally always order Margherita with buffalo mozzarella, but I have also tried their Tuscan fennel sausage which is delicious, the spinach and ricotta with no tomato sauce which also is very nice, and last Friday i had one from the specials which was sausage and friarelli - AMAZING! Desserts wise there is not much of a choice I have to say, but their cheesecake or chocolate cake are delicious. Service is great - staff is always smiling, attentive and ready to help. After the Euro quarterfinal when Italy lost against Germany, we decided to have a pizza to cheer ourselves up - it was 11.30pm and we entered Paesano Pizza which was of course almost empty and ready to close (they allow you in until midnight on a Saturday night) and, despite i am sure all waitresses and cooks were not too happy, they have all been really accommodating and welcoming - really professional! We stopped here for dinner while visiting Glasgow. This was the first time I've ever had a 20 minute wait for a table in a pizza place. The food was very good, but the pizzas are a bit different than what I've had in other countries. The toppings are very sparse, but delicious. The atmosphere is casual, with everyone seated at long tables. It was quite loud, and difficult to have a conversation, as it was very busy. I have been to this place so many times I have lost count. The pizzas are truly magnificent. The are incredibly light and full of flavour. It's a proper thin base pizza with a massive doughy crust that is great for dipping in the pomodoro sauce. A number of toppings are available to fancy up you pizza and I especially like one of their specials, which is chorizo and nduja. So spicy but so delicious! I always upgrade to the mozzarella di bufala as it is totally worth the extra creaminess. The mozzarella comes as proper slices you can see on your pizza rather than the shredded type. Paesano import all their ingredients from Southern Italy to give it that authentic feel and it's just perfect. Speaking as an Italian this is definitely the only place to come for a pizza! read more

It's very rare that upon going to a place a few times I start to think that a four star review was seriously doing a place a disservice. Paesano is fully worth the upgrade from four to five stars and I'll explain why. Since my first visit, I have been to Paesano several times and the pizza manages to impress me a little bit more each and every time I go. I still partly hope for a more firm and crispy crust, as theirs can get a bit floppy, but I've learned to appreciate it for the specific style that it is. The crust is nice and thin and is never over-bready. The softness actually adds something nice to the pizza once I'm no longer expecting it to be crispy. Everything on top only adds to the quality. The sauce adds a wonderful level of fresh tartness, and they use just enough of the same to add a lovely tomato taste without drowning it. The cheeses, both the regular fior de latte mozzarella and the mozzarella di bufala (which is worth the £1.50 upgrade), are soft and creamy. The toppings are always high quality and the combinations they sell all work well together. You can also pick and chose from toppings from each pizza and put them on another pizza from a price between 50p and £2. I've only tried to add ricotta, which ended up being a £1.50 upgrade, which seemed a bit steep to me. Even with the upgrades, the pizza is still very affordable and the most I've spent on a single pizza is £9. I both hate and love that this place is to closer to my flat. I know I'd visit even more if it were a closer location, and it's perhaps better for me to have to have it as a treat and not just each time I want delicious pizza. I can still hope that they'll deliver at some point so I can treat myself more frequently. read more

While staying at the Ibis hotel next door, Paesano was a clear choice. Now I consider myself a pizza expert and have tried and loved MANY styles. This was one of the best wood fired pizzas I've ever had. Because the dough was a sourdough yeast blend I do regret not asking them for extra crispy as I don't really like my thin crusts to be to doughy but it was still good as served. I had the special of the day which is as the Aubergine Basil for £8 which was amazing but definitely too much for one person unless you plan on having leftovers. I also ordered the Burrata appetizer which was good but only included the tiniest of tiny basil leaves. For dessert I had the 99 which was soft serve vanilla ice cream in a cone with a "flake" (chocolate cookie) All in all, the food was delicious and the price was pretty cheap considered the quality and freshness of ingredients. The reasons they're getting 4 stars instead of 5 is because I HATE red wine served out of cocktail glasses instead of proper wine glasses. Also although the food came out quite fast, afterwards it seemed impossible to get my servers attention for dessert and drink refills, and when I asked about the pizza she (obvi noticing my accent) said it's traditional Naples style pizza not like dominos or other American pizzas... -_- kind of offensive plus there are MANY types of pizza served in America, not just the fast food kind. read more

Loved pretty much everything about this place - the décor, the menu and, especially, the food. I was really pleased to see that they only do pizza - do one thing and do it well I say! And they do indeed do it well - soft, chewy pizza bases topped with fresh, tasty ingredients. In all honesty, I would say that Paesano served up the best pizza I've ever had. They just missed out on that fifth star because service was a little slow - the place was packed and I felt they needed just one or two extra members of staff on. Paesano is a genuine 5 star restaurant. It's a big challenge to add the already considerable plaudits this place has gained from my fellow Glasgow Yelpers but here's my best shot! The people running Paesano have invested serious dollar in creating a really cool contemporary experience. The decor is absolutely gorgeous from the moment you walk through the door - the open kitchen and rest rooms are equally well designed. Wee touches that make your experience outstanding include the superior cutlery - I know that might seem like a wee thing but it makes all the difference in the world when you're carving up a pizza pie! The service is absolutely lightning fast and even on Valentine's night we got a table right away and efficient service as always. I love that the £5 cheapest price point pizza is vegan and I have fun adding different vegan ingredients. The bijoux menu is great for people who get overwhelmed by choice! I love the salad and the olives too - and everything is so reasonably priced. I had the tomato sugo pizza with red onions and it was so wonderful. The sourdough base really shines through - I actually think that having less toppings lets these amazing authentic ingredients speak for themselves. There are specials to choose from every day including pizzas and desserts - this time we had New York cheese cake with ice cream which was divine. The only thing I'd like Paesano to change is to adopt a slightly more consistent tone of service - some staff are really chatty and some barely say a word. I don't mind either way but as a regular customer you're not sure which it's going to be! I go to Paesano as often as I can and recommend it to people all the time - a realy valuable addition to the Glasgow food scene they have their menu, produce and decor absolutely bang on the money. read more

So many people have raved about Paesano I was excited to finally get to go! An impromptu visit with a few other people and it was rammed so we were lucky to get a table. It's a nice space though, if a little cramped feeling at the tables, but it didn't feel like the other tables were too close, so maybe 'cosy' is a better way to describe it. The menu is interesting, and there were only a couple of options that leapt out at me, in the end I went for a number 5 - prosciutto cotto, with portobello mushrooms, tomato sugo, mozzarella, fresh thyme and evoo. Given how busy it was the food arrived pretty quickly, which was handy because I was ravenous! Hand-tossed dough, which wasn't thick and doughy at all but wasn't thin enough to be too crispy, and a reasonable topping but I think they could've added a little more ham. And it was good, very tasty, very 'grown up' pizza but, and I wasn't alone in this, it was a bit watery and runny in the middle. Maybe they rushed the cooking a little because it was busy? That said, it was very tasty, the ham had a nice salty kick, and the tomato sugo wasn't overpowering, each ingredient was well balanced (but not enough ham!). Price wise it's more than you'd pay at Pizza Hut but you are getting a MUCH better pizza! The staff were friendly enough, and kinda left us to it which was a blessing (I hate staff that hover!), and given that they have just announced they are opening a branch in the West End, I'll be interested to see how that gets on. Ultimately the pizza was ok to good, I've had better but I won't put up much of a fight if I end up eating here again, after all, it's still pizza! read more

I had an absolutely delicious pizza in here. The waitress was great - she advised that we got a veggie pizza and adapted it rather than a plain tomato and garlic one and paying per extra veg topping. For £7 we shared a pizza of roasted peppers and spinach and swapped the ricotta for garlic and the mozzarella for sun blushed tomatoes. I had been in a bit of a rush that day or we probably would have ordered a second one. I wasn't that wowed by the sides but that's just personal preference. No desserts suitable for vegan but they're a new place with a fairly small menu, so maybe once they've been open longer and have more people with dietary requirements coming in that will come. Paesano is all about pizza, it's all they sell but they do it so well you wouldn't want to order anything else. Make sure you check out the specials, displayed on brown paper on the wall. I tried a special with smoked mozzarella and mushrooms, the base was light with a good crust and there was just the right amount of topping. Wine is served Italian style in short water glasses, I would have preferred my prosecco in a flute but that's just me! If you have room for dessert they serve Mr Whippy style ice cream cones. Tricky one this. The reviews are clearly excellent and the main reason I went out of my way to find this place. I popped by after lunch both times, mid to late afternoon, expecting things to be quiet. Unfortunately for me on both occasions things were very busy, but I thought I'd have a go anyway as wasn't really in a rush. Anyway, first time I went in I stood around the front area waiting to be seated. No one came over. I noticed others just walking through so I did the same. Most of the tables are designed for groups and as someone alone I didn't want to use up unnecessary space and so ended up near the kitchen on a two person table. No one came over. No one said hello. In fact the default was look away and rush by. A simple hello would have been nice, an acknowledgement that I was a customer. After 12 minutes sitting no one even asked if I wanted a drink and staff continued walking to and from the kitchen. Maybe as an older guy, on his own, I didn't fit the younger, sociable demographic they seem to aim for, or maybe I didn't seem to be someone likely to generate as much money or as big a tip as a large group. The same happened two days later pretty much: that look but immediately look away thing. Ok, it's a busy place, but simple friendliness and service isn't too much to ask. I'm going to keep this review straight to the point, no messing about - a reflection of what to expect when you visit this place. Four of us went along in pursuit of some after work scran on Friday evening. At first it seemed quiet inside, and given the vast space available I wasn't expecting it to fill up quick however after looking up from my meal the place was packed out - not a challenge of course as the long table set up boasts a lot of space and doesn't give the illusion of feeling crowded. The menu, although small boasts a handful of antipasti type starters and a tonne of delicious pizzas to chose from. I went for the anchovies/olive/caper combination and it was fantastic. The base was perfect, and provided the fresh tasting toppings a perfect place to be. I would go as far to say this pizza is making my top 3 in Glasgow. What was meant to be a post work catch up with friends ended up being more of an exchange of knowing glances and occasional mutterings of how good our pizzas were. Four clean plates, and four rather delighted people later we were stuffed - well until the offer of desserts was put in front of us. We all opted for ice cream in some shape or form. The touch of having ice cream cones available went down a storm with our table and I could see others looking on in delight. Other than that, the staff were an absolute delight and I genuinely enjoyed the interactions we had with them. Good humoured, well mannered and knowledgeable - a credit to such a great place. Ate here early evening on Friday with family before a wee outing to see a show. It was a busy place already at 5pm and we were welcomed quickly and seated at the end of a long communal table. The restaurant occupies quite a large space and evokes a warm and welcoming ambience through nice use of lighting and music, open pizza ovens and friendly service. We ordered drinks and olives whilst choosing our pizzas and these were efficiently served up to us. The olives were big and fleshy and a nice appetiser. Onto the pizza! The menu features a small selection of pizzas and there are specials written up on the wall. I had tomato sugo with buffalo mozzarella and basil, with added mushrooms and chillies. Others at the table went for the porchetta special and the fennel sausage. The pizzas were ready quickly despite how busy the restaurant was. We agreed that our pizzas were tasty and the toppings delicious, though there were mixed reactions to the different type of dough used in the pizzas here. I thought it was fine, even though I do prefer a thin and crispy base. A few others at the table weren't so keen on the softness of the base and the large spongy crusts. Take some advice from me: Avoid the pits of your Pizza Express and Pizzas Huts and make your way to a place that a) make delicious traditional pizzas, and b) doesn't scalp you on cost. I had heard a lot about this place from friends, which naturally makes me suspicious, but I can confirm that the food more than lives up to expectations. They don't do sides, but who needs mac and cheese when you are shoving delicious pizza in your face? The building is spacious without being echoey, service is friendly and prompt, and the simplicity of the menu gives you a bit of faith in a restaurant that plays to its strengths. Add to this the entirely reasonable pricing structure and limited but comprehensive selection of pizzas, and what is there not to like? The beer was cheap, too. You can't book, which is always worth noting, but getting a table was relatively stress-free. The best pizzas I have had in Britain. Simple menu with a few options....just perfect. Love everything about the place - food and the very relaxed ambience (obviously not during peak hours). I have been there 4 times and have always been pleased. Every time I have visited, it has been with a new group of friends and all of them have loved it. Went to Paesano tail end of 2015 with a colleague as had heard mixed reviews about it and wanted to try it myself. We liked the layout and the staff very much. The pizzas themselves were slightly underwhelming; mine was not hot, barely warm in fact and my colleague's was the same. The toppings were tasty enough but personally I prefer a crispy base throughout, not just at the edges. First time in here and I'll be back - very simple menu with 8 pizzas and a couple of sides, this place is concentrating on doing a few things really well rather than everything in a mediocre stylee. It's just newly opened but the staff were all well trained and there was a real buzz in the air with a fairly constant 20 min queue for newly arrived diners. Anyone who knows me is aware that pizza is my number one choice for eating. You can imagine was excited to try this place. Disappointment after disappointment followed. Service: It took ages for us to get food, and it was so sub par it was unreal. Couple of orders were wrong as well. When we raised our concern the server was not interested, so we had to escalated to the manager, James I think. Mistake. He was a useful as a chocolate teapot. Cleanliness: The place was a bit "scummy" I don't know if that was the look or they just didn't bother cleaning up. When you enter Paesano, it instantly alters your perceptions. When I heard authentic wood fired pizza made with the finest Italian products with a small but concise menu, I thought small, cosy, pizzeria. Instead, it is a sprawling space with benches and tables, a HUGE wood fired oven and a surprisingly Glasgow themed dessert menu. The staff are wonderful, proven by the fact that my Partner requested (without my knowledge) a heart shaped pizza to be made for my birthday and it was completed like an MI5 mission. The Pizza is spectacular. It is not the typical good Glasgow Pizza in the sense that it does not have a thin and crisp base, but a spongey, doughy base that will devastate you with its sourdough brilliance.
