My husband and I are visiting from New York to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I learned about Fairhope from a friend and we absolutely love its idyllic beauty! I heard that Page and Palette is a place to visit and we were not disappointed. Wonderful selection of books, souvenir items, knickknacks, also a café/ latte area and a bar and performance area in the back. We ordered the cappuccino and a drip coffee, both were excellent. The carrot cake was delicious. My cell phone battery was running low and the staff lent me a charger, which was so amazing and a lifesaver. I am an author and physician, and I recently published my book Exit strategies: living lessons from dying people. So the staff introduced me to a local author Dr, John Stump, who happened to walk in at that moment. We had a fun chat and found out we actually had quite a bit in common. He also showed me the collection of his books in the store. This visit definitely made our vacation extra special! read more

Exceptional bookstore with a wide variety of books, from local history, local authors, to children's, politics, art, murder mystery, thrillers, you name it, they have it. There's a wealth of trinkets and whatnots available for yourself or gifts mingled throughout. There's an awesome coffee shop as well, with all your different varieties of coffee drinks. Cold, hot, you name it, they serve it. The neat part, in the back of the store is a very nice quaint pub, with a full service bar and live music. There was a very talented musician playing and singing when we arrived, which welcomely distracted us from book shopping for a while. It was great to sit in the back to watch and listen to him perform. I'd have to say, one of the finest bookstores I've visited. It's not huge, but for its size, it had it all. What a cool bookstore! We randomly stopped in while walking around Fairhope and so glad we did. The bookstore has a variety of sections including a young teen and children's section that kids would enjoy, the center part of the store with great displays of books and hand-written employee recommendations throughout, neat options for Knick-knacks and gifts of all types sprinkled throughout the books, and THEN as you walk toward the back you find there's a bar! It's a decent sized bar with couches, tables, many tvs displaying sports, what looked like complimentary hot dogs on a warmer and a full bar with seating. Oh, and I forgot to mention the ice cream and coffee store connected on the side! This would be a great date spot if we lived here. And I'll close with mentioning that we ran into the owner when walking on the outside of the building and he was a very friendly and passionate guy about the history of Fairhope. It was nice to see him working at the store and loving his business and community. read more

I've only been to Fairhope twice (so far!) but I feel like Page & Palette is my neighborhood coffee shop (just, like, 1000 miles away) ... this is such a cute little store. Two of my favorites under one roof: coffee and books. You can't get much better than that! I love to support local, even if it's not my own local. Anytime I travel, I buy books and coffee from the non-chains. Page & Palette is - I'm quite certain - a gem for the community. Coffee is good as well, which is always a plus. Such a neat little bookstore! It brought back the nostalgia of my childhood bookstore. The workers were so helpful and kind. There are many interesting things to look at other than just books, and they served coffee as well. I wish we lived closer so I could take my child to the upcoming book signings. i think this may be for a more "hipper" crowd or those looking to grab a drink and go. i'm giving 3 stars as i'm not sure how to rate. it's not my vibe as it feels more trendy then a cozy chill spot. i did notice three areas to sit so there is a good amount of room to hangout if you want. it could be connected to an eatery as it seemed people were sitting at a bar eating. as far as the cafe there wasn't anything i wanted to drink but mostly because i want to sit and be cozy with a tea. i mostly went to see if the bookstore area had any cute or funny items to buy and noticed they were selling crystals which didn't seem fitting for the space and were pricer then what would be found in a store that specializes in such. so it felt more like lets jump on something that is popular. the restroom was clean and they were sweet enough to apologize(?) for the hand dryer not working. read more

This is a phenomenal local bookstore! In search of ink for fountain pens, I called many bookstores, stationary supply stores and art supply places. Sadly, people just do not have telephone manners anymore. However, one young man was very helpful and suggesyed that I contact this bookstore. I'm so glad that I took his suggestion. The person that I spoke to had wonderful phone etiquette and was very helpful. Not only did they have the item that I was looking for, but she offered to hold it until I came to purchase it. So, I drove "across the Bay" (as Mobilians refer to it) to Fairhope to look at and possibly purchase this collection of fountain pen inks. Page and Palette is on the main "drag" in downtown Fairhope and it is easily accessible. The entire downtown is walkable from almost any parking spot. Compared to other shops in the area, the bookstore takes up a lot of real estate. It comprises four distinct areas: one large main space with numerous books and displays; a second space of books for children and youth; a third space for audiences and speakers to congregate (for talks and book-signings) and a space adjacent to the bookstore that sells ice cream, drinks (hot and cold) and sandwiches. I was really impressed by the expansive collection of books, from literature to modern-day fiction, non-fiction and Southern interests. The layout and use of the spaces was well thought out and quite functional. I really enjoyed the time that I spent in this bookstore space. read more

Each time we visit Fairhope we've been fortunate enough to hear an interesting author and learn something new. This time it was Wayne Flynt talking about his latest book on Harper Lee. Went to the Page and Palette yesterday morning for coffee. A staff member was inappropriately dressed. Shorts way short and too tight. She had a top on in which she kept pulling up and down and was very impressed with herself. She ignored customers and was also on here cell phone. This quaint local bookstore has been a staple of downtown Fairhope since 1968. It has recently undergone some beautiful renovations. My first P&P experience was a speaking and book signing event by Winston Groom (along with his buddy, Jimbo Meador, who are both local residents), for the 20th anniversary of Forrest Gump. They have many book signing events, including another one coming up by Winston Groom for the release of his latest historical fiction book, El Paso, and we can't wait to go. The bookstore itself is not huge, but has a vast selection of every book you could possibly want along with a few other gifts. The place is well organized and the employees are friendly and eager to assist you in finding the perfect book. There's a very large children's section as well. Want to enjoy a nice cup of coffee or tea while you read? They've got you covered there too with a coffee shop inside. They sell a variety of coffees, teas and pastries that will easily rival your favorite coffee shop. If you're going to be in downtown Fairhope, this place is a must! Since I now live in Fairhope I do like this bookstore. Great local selections with local authors with signed copies. Staff also offers recommendations with a "bookmark" in the chosen books. They also have coffee and a bar in the backside with some outside seating. My wife and I always visit when we walk to town just to see what's going on here. Keep in mind that Winston Groom wrote Forest Gump close by at a guest house of a local. He actually has a marker by the bookstore. Place is really quaint and I did check on a book for my wife recently and while they didn't have to book they could order all 12 volumes. A family thing so I probably will with all of their help. I was pleasantly surprised to find this gem of a bookstore in Fairhope. Attached is a coffee shop and bar to get the appropriate buzz needed for your afternoon/evening. If you join the rewards program, your purchases will earn discounts on those great beverages (well the coffee at least). Even though the bookstore is small, they carry all of the recent releases and have a great selection. I haven't tried it out, but after inadvertent eavesdropping on the cashiers, it seems like they will special order and hold books for you as well. I'm a bookworm and have an affinity for bookstores, but this is definitely a place that I would recommend for the charm.They advertise some neat events such as book signings or live music, and hopefully that can make up for the fact that the big box sellers still offer better on most selections. read more

LOVED this cozy, adorable store in Fairhope. The bookstore and the coffee shop both (although the latter needs to add oat milk to its dairy alternatives - any serious coffee shop should). Wife and I spent an hour wandering the stacks and shelves of books. Especially loved the Alabama section of books. And this would be a five-star rating if they had a selection of locally-made crafts/trinkets/etc. There were plenty of cute Etsy-like doodads in the store, but they were all made in faraway places. Would be a great complement to this store to have similar work from local artisans. looking forward to going back next time I'm in Fairhope. read more

This shop reminds me of Meg Ryan's bookstore in "You've Got Mail", only better. Where else can I walk in to browse books and see what my favorite employees have recommended on a shelf? I don't know these people, but I know who has the same taste as I do, eclectic. Where else can I start talking to a nice man who is recommending some books and then find out he's an author who lives down the road? He's Winston Groom, the man who wrote Forest Gump, among other things, no less. He just likes to hang out there. This shop makes me feel happy when I walk through the door. I stopped in here on a rainy weekend with family. The bookstore is really charming. I wish there were more hometown bookstores like this one instead of so many large corporate stores the B&N. They have a good selection and even have a table of books from local authors that you probably won't find at a larger store. After wandering around the store looking at all of the books I (don't) need, we all got something from the coffee shop. It was really busy, but they were fast with the orders. I got one of their chai lattes. I was surprised they had 2 different variants of that tea to choose from and I opted for their sweeter version. It wasn't overly sweet and the hot beverage was exactly what I needed after being rained on all day. My family that lives there said they are open long before the sun, so it's perfect for an early AM stop on a commute. I wanted to try one of their pastries or cakes, but they were out of almost everything since we were in there around 3pm. read more

They host local artists and have storytime for little ones every Wednesday of the month. They also have live music, usually on Friday nights. If you make a purchase they will tuck a program with info on upcoming events into your bag. I need to return when I have more time to really check them out. read more

This was an awesome find! The bookstore had a fun local vibe, with quite the variety of books, cards, and other tchotchkes. The staff were very friendly, helpful, and humorous. I loved that they have a connected wine bar and coffee shop. There was plenty of seating inside and out for the coffee shop. If only I were an actual local here, I'd certainly be a regular! I highly recommend this bookstore to anyone coming through town! The only bad thing was I swung by too late and after exploring the bookstore, I only got to sit at the coffee shop for 30 minutes before they were going to close. read more

I love Page and Pallet. "Latte Da" is actually the name of the coffee shop inside of the bookstore. I love the atmosphere and warm attitude I get when I walk in. Many times I've seen artists working on sketches and local authors working on their next big thing. Sometimes you see old guys watching the news in here and other times you see moms and daughters catching up over some coffee. Since Coffee Loft has upped their prices so much, I really think the old Coffee Loft crowd has moved to Latte Da. The baristas are obviously local teens getting their feet wet in barista work, so don't be too harsh on them. I love that we can talk about the local happenings while they make me my drink. This is not like Starbucks, y'all. The Chad is my favorite specialty drink, and they make a mean soy latte. They have different specials for the coffees every day that always seem interesting and delicious. I wish I could try them all! I recently tried a Himalayan Grög that had great aroma and taste to it. They also serve ice cream and cake. So you can buy a cool book from the store and grab a quick sip of coffee. I always take my out of town friends here for a great local coffee shop experience. Their prices are pretty reasonable and I love supporting local business. read more

I like this place because it's vibe will give you a good feel of the local area. There is a book in here for everyone. Even your dog ("The Dogs of Fairhope"). You can go next door to the coffee shop Latte Da and get coffee, relax, sit down, read a magazine, or walk around and look at the books. No one will bother you. They are super friendly there so if you want a suggestion on a book - they will give you their opinions or suggestions. I always visit when I'm in town and pick up a new book to read despite the e-book revolution. I've picked up books for the kids that came from the sale rack. Always something good to find. I'm a big fan because you really get the local town feel by stopping in. It's your bookstore when you're in town. As far as the coffee shop next door and it's "barista" comments from other reviewers - it's not a Starbucks. In fact, no one wants to hear the word "Starbucks" around there. Just ask Genes Beans down the block. So don't walk in expecting a fancy coffee. Just get a local coffee and go sit down and relax. It's not rocket science. ;) read more
