Stopped at my favorite coffee place heading to the Gulf! I got a sugar free iced latte (Hazelnut)! It was so good I couldn't even get a pic of it! They have multiple sugar free options which is nice when you are eating out and feel super bloated, but still want a "healthier" treat! There was a local bakery there with a stand selling homemade goods! I was running behind, so I didn't get to try but the matcha banana pudding looked DEVINE! Love this cute poet coffee shop! I order the Asiago bagel sandwich, a lemon poppy seed muffin with a large iced Latte. Loved everything, the bagel was home made not a store bought bagel the bacon was cooked to perfection. The lemon poppy seed muffin was fresh out of the oven it was so moist. Definitely the go to for coffee in Foley. Great lattes, expresso, and matcha. Love the atmosphere and industrial feel of the place. Please get peanut butter back as an option to have as a spread with a bagel purchase. The staff is super inconsistent on that. Also, having plain butter available would be good. The only option available is purchasing whipped butter on the side. Some people like plain butter on their bagel in addition to the cream cheese or chosen spread. read more

Made another trip to the Drowsy Poet - found it last time we vacationed in the area and it's now a regular stop. If I had this place at home I'd be there multiple times a week. Great place - an old gas station that has been remodeled. The outside is nice with seating for maybe 25 and inside perhaps half that. Great drink menu - first time I had the king cake latte hot (loved it) and this time the same but cold. Honestly terrific but wish I'd tried bananas foster just for the change - guess I'll need to return soon! - Ambiance/Vibe: This shop was built into what looks like either an old gas station or possibly an old auto shop. It looks great with how it has been repurposed and renovated with new life. Much of the seating in the primary room is also auto styled which was cool. - Coffee: The coffee was very robust, but the sweeteners gave it a nice blend. Would drink again. We actually bought a back to take home too which we don't do often. - Food: There were a few food snack and treat options but the store does offer a variety of quiches, sandwich and food options as well - Prices: On the coffee shop side, prices were very on par to what I'd expect for the shops. - Staff: All of the staff were super helpful and friendly. - Merch: They had several merch items that were cute and also very punny. Very impressed with this adorable coffee shop. It looks like a renovated firehouse, very industrial design, with 2 rooms that look good for Laptop work, reading, and more. Delicious, very flavorful coffee syrups. The order came out very quickly, and all correctly. The slider was delicious, and that aioli that came with it was fantastic. I've been coming to Drowsy Poet since they opened and absolutely love it here. The coffee is great and most of the staff -- especially the drive-thru girls are always friendly and deserve every tip they get. That said, there's one woman at the drive-thru window who's consistently rude and aggressive. I know the intercom can be spotty, but yelling at customers is unacceptable. It hasn't been just once or twice it's every time she is there. If you're that unhappy, maybe it's time for a new job -- it's not the customer's fault they need .5 seconds to decide what coffee they'd like. Everyone else here is awesome, but she definitely needs some customer service etiquette. read more

From the outside it looks like a gas station, but when you walk in they have good music playing and plenty of seating to enjoy a fresh cup of coffee. They have options for food. I've heard great things about this coffee shop and now I know it's for good reason, I like it! Founded in Pensacola, FL, not far from here, in 2006 with multiple locations in Pensacola and several others in Florida and southeast Alabama. They grind their Arabica beans fresh daily and have a large selection of Shade Grown, Organic, and Fair Trade Certified Coffees with choices like Brazilian, Columbian, Costa Rican, Ethiopian, and more. They have their Drowsy Poet Coffees online, as well. (see their website) I especially dig the motif and am very impressed with what my local Foley has done with the space here. It's an old-fashioned gas station that has been cleverly converted into a chill coffee shop. There's spacious covered seating where the pumps used to be and inside has maximized the entire space with the front section set up with seats and bars for working on your laptop, phone or paperwork (does anyone still does that?) and the other big space has the ordering area and another spacious area with tables and chairs. This, by far, is so much better than any Starbucks that I've ever visited and the coffee is WAY better! There are breakfast sandwiches available all day, lots of sweet treats like scones, brownies, cheesecake, cinnamon rolls, and more all sorts of hot and cold drinks like lattes, espressos, smoothies, and my new favorite "poetchinos". I thoroughly enjoyed their specialty drink the Poetchino which is blended with espresso, milk, ice, and your favorite flavor, I chose mocha and caramel. It was a delightful cold, rich refreshingly bold drink. Most all of their drinks are available in 12, 16 or 20 oz. sizes. My honey had her go-to favorite iced coffee and for a treat she had a sugar cookie and I had a blueberry muffins, both made fresh in-house. I'll definitely be back!! There is always service with a smile when we stop in. This is our go-to stop for lattes when we are in Foley, usually 3-4 times a year. The station is set up in an eclecticly adorable way and decorated in fitting mechanic furnishings. Free WiFi and plenty of comfortable places to enjoy your Coffee and a snack while you work on your laptop or phone. It is an old gas station that has been remodeled but has managed to retain enough of the old gas station feel to spark fond memories for those of old enough to recall the sound of the rubber hose that would ring a bell when your car drove over it. We found this place several months ago while browsing at the antiques store next door. We enjoyed it so much before we just had to stop here again. It's located on busy Highway 59 at the corner of Myrtle in the downtown area. Parking is street side on Myrtle. The Drowsy Poet is in an old service station. You know the old kind where you would drive up, someone would fill your car up and it had two bays where cars could be fixed? Well, it's been repurposed into a heck of a nice little place. It's a trendy little hipster place. We love the theme and the decor. It's William Shakespeare and Edgar Allan Poe meets a subdued Route 66 gas station. I really felt comfortable. There is seating in three areas. Outdoors where the pumps would have been when it was an active gas station there are several metal patio chairs and tables. It's nice on a day that isn't terribly hot. Just inside the entrance, there is a reading area with tables and couches. There is also a shelf of reading material for those who wish to browse the selections. In the main dining area, there are several tables including a couple of highboy tables. Additionally, there are a couple of nice leather easy chairs. There is a drive through but we wanted to sit inside. The menu is primarily coffee creations and smoothies with a couple of sandwich, quiche and some baked goods. There is also an option to Buy A Cop a Cup to provide coffee to the men and women of law enforcement to come in an enjoy a beverage. My wife chose a White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino. I usually never try her drinks because I usually cannot pronounce them and I usually don't like the grittiness of frozen drinks. When she said it was the best coffee drink she had ever tasted, I was dubious. So, I tried it too. Let me tell you, that thing was absolutely delicious. I loved how smooth it was. There was no grittiness. It was like a deliciously smooth coffee smoothie. I opted for the Milton, a hot cappuccino topped with whipped cream, chocolate and caramel. I can't think of a better cappuccino I have ever had. Next time though I think I'll get the Poe, which has dark chocolate and raspberry. We also paid it forward buying a Cup for a Cop. As a retired law enforcement officer, I understand being on patrol and needing a break for coffee. So, it made sense to me to do this. The whole thing was a great experience. Even the music playing softly in the shop was great. Enough so I have it on my Apple Music playlist now. You have to try this place. It will become one of your favorite places to drive two hours to get to. read more

Cool spot! Drowsy Poet is a quaint coffee shop located in Foley, which is about 20 minutes north of Gulf Shores. I stopped here for about 30 minutes before driving back to Texas in order to enjoy some quite reading and a hot coffee. The inside is spacious, with two different rooms filled with chairs and tables. There is also an outside patio, if you're into stuff like that. The black coffee wasn't anything mind-blowing, but they seemed to have a lot of different different flavored lattes that looked good.
