I was confused at a pain center referral as I thought this was a relatively straightforward procedure but have since learned why this was the correct path. I was also confused at the need to schedule a consult first as I was very much afraid that this would delay treatment as pain was increasing and greatly impacted my ability to sleep or even sit down for a meal. As it turns out, this is pretty much a legal requirement for pain center treatments. Lots of online releases and other forms but they did not take a long time to complete. The spine center referral was on a Friday afternoon and I painfully waited until Monday morning to schedule the first appointment. I was greatly relieved that, as long as I was flexible on locations, could be seen Wednesday at their Frisco location (in the Baylor building next to the Star Center.) That went very well with Dr. A and I met with the scheduler for the next challenge; the procedure itself! As it turns out, I was scheduled for the next morning!!!!! So, at their Plano location, and, after a couple more forms and verification that I did indeed have a driver due to anesthesia, I was out of the office an hour later. No immediate pain relief but the general expectation is 1-3 days. Well, no. I took my victory nap after getting home and, surprisingly, was able to sit up out of bed for the first time in 4 weeks (YMMV)! Still painful but 50% reduced from that very painful morning. Ending up taking a long walk and things got even better. As I write this, I'd say pain is down 80% and I expect my best sleep in ages tonight. Many thanks to Dr A and his group.

When I told them I did not have that much money they asked if I could get someone to lend it to me so that they could see me. I'm by no means a drug seeker, but have been on a drug that has worked with me for the past decade. Dr. Rai was very professional and honest about his inability to help me switch from my current pain managment provider and have him continue my medication. He did make sure that my co-pay was refunded before I left the office. While, he could not help me, I do have respect for him since he was straightforward and honest. I do wish they would be more upfront about their practice's inability to prescribe controlled pain medication so that others know ahead of time.

It took days of repeated calls, messages, emails, before I was ever able to get through. However they were able to make an appointment within a few days. For the consultation, the doctor seemed very confident that he knew what the problem was and suggested doing an injection. Did not discuss any other possible treatments (i.e. medication), just insisted the next step was to come back for an injection. I went for the injection and it went fine. I had more pain for the next 7 days than I did before coming in, and after that I felt no pain relief at all. I came in for my scheduled follow-up appointment and was exactly on time. I sat in the waiting room for 30 minutes and then came out to remind them that I was waiting and that it was 30 minutes past my appointment time. The person there said something like "oh you're probably next". I told them I had another appointment after this and could not just wait around indefinitely. I waited another 10 minutes and still no doctor showed up. I decided that I could not stay any longer as they were well past the appointment time. I asked if we can reschedule for a less busy time. They said the next available appointment is 30 days out! I asked if they think it's right that the doctor did not show for my appointment and now I have to wait 30 days for another chance? The scheduler told me that even if I come in after 30 days, the doctor may still be not on-time that day and that I have to just sit there and wait. At this point I decided to just leave and go someplace else. Their treatment was not effective at all, their office staff is impossible to get a hold of since they don't answer the phone or return messages, and if they can't keep their appointments then it's really a deal-breaker for me. Also, exacerbating the pain was my Fibromyalga concomitant with some radiating nerve pain from reoccurring costochondritis. The Doctor and his staff treated me with the upmost care and respect. They had never heard of the condition before and even put some effort into researching Slipping Rib Syndrome so that they could better treat me. Not many modern doctors are aware of the condition, so it is a breath of fresh air when one puts effort into understanding it. Finally a compassionate specialist told me I had complex regional pain syndrome where my body had a network of nerves telling my brain that I was in pain. Once there Dr. Rodrigue and his staff attached themselves to my case and started trying to rewire those nerves with various interventions to block the signal. And that helped me immensely. It changed everything. When the blocks became less effective we tried medications which took many starts and stops and added various physical therapies, creams, portable machines and techniques that kept me an active member of society. Finally we landed on a routine that worked miracles and has for years. When medication/therapy improvements were developed he always talked me through the science so I was fully informed and in control. The trust I have in his practice and his approach is as high as can be. Pain can be all consuming. It can be isolating. It can be embarrassing. It can cause strife in ways that seem impossible to overcome. But I was made to feel like my situation was not only valid but important to him. I wish I could explain everything they did for me because a lot happens over a decade in life - just know at every twist and turn - Dr. Rodrigue always took time to ask how I was doing or handing things and if there was anything he could do to help. Doctor guilt tripped then dropped me as a patient when I needed him most. If you really have bad chronic disabling pain you will understand how important this is. Communication was difficult and I sometimes did not get return phone calls with answers. I am now in such pain I can barely sit and write this.
