This place is absolutely awful! It has all the vibes of a pill mill, dirty office, terrible staff, bad management, failed insurance processing. I wasted a year trying to get actual help with a cronic back issue. 4 appointments that I showed up for and they weren't ready, Dr Ho seems smart at first, but he is a joke. Gave me his cell # to contact himm, because his staff is bad and basic functuins. But, he is no better. Doesn't answer texts back. He also doesn't show up for confirmed appointments. Complete waste of time. AVOID this place at all costs if you actually want to get better, based on my experience, they won't help you. They will simply waste your time. What kind of fly by night doctors clinic is this. First they seems personally offended that I asked them not to copy my drivers license because I had my identity stolen once at a doctors office. Then they took one hour to put me in a room. Now Ove been in a room for a half an hour waiting for a doctor. I'm about ready to walk out because I literally have waited over one and a half hours. First of all, this review does not reflect on the service provided by the doctors at this facility. In fact, the two doctors that I dealt with, Afzaal Iqbal and Elizabeth Watson, have left the practice. My issue is with the staff. I called five times to make an appointment. My daughter called for me three additional times. Each time we got an answering machine. Not once did either of us receive a call back. I eventually had to drive to the facility to make an appointment. After I eventually got to Dr. Watson she prescribed me some medicine for my pain. My pharmacy called several times to get the prescription refilled. They never received a response. I called four times over a five-week period. Each time I got an answering machine saying "due to the high volume of calls it could take up to 72 hours for a return call". 72 hours to get back to someone who is in pain? That is unconscionable. Not one return call to me. On top of the non-existent service the grounds around the facility are unkempt and strewn with trash. I strongly urge you to take your business elsewhere. Not sure where Dr. Watson is now, but Dr. Iqbal has his own practice in Irvine. He is amazing. read more

I arrived 15 minutes early and signed in for an appointment with Dr. Watson at 2:30 PM on May 7th. After not being acknowledged at 2:56 I ask the receptionist when I might be acknowledged or seen? After searching for a minute she said there you are, do you have your insurance and ID card? I said does this mean it's gonna take longer than the 45 minutes I've been sitting here and her reply was, it depends. I left. Just hoping Dr. Watson sees this as I'm sure the staff will never mention it. Glad I signed in so there's proof I was there. Edit March 15, 2024: I received a phone call on March 13, 2024 @ 3:36PM from 714-963-7240 from someone identifying as Pain Medicine Associates in the "Mission Viejo office". This number belongs to Pain Medicine in FOUNTAIN VALLEY. The woman told me she was calling me re: medical records request. She asked for the fax number where they needed to be sent. I told her it was for myself. She told me there was a $25 fee for medical records and I'd need to fill out a release form first. I asked for the release form to be emailed to me. I asked why there would be a $25 fee for electronic copies. She told me "it's our policy". She took my email address to send me the release form. I told her to also send me a copy of the policy that requires a $25 fee for electronic copies of medical records. I haven't heard back and this facility does not respond to online my chart requests. Someone better call me on Monday March 18 to advise what location I can go to inspect my medical records or I will be contacting a LAWYER. Per Section 123110 of the Health & Safety Code I should have been provided with medical records BY the 5th business day after my written request. My original written request was December 15, 2023. This place is BOGUS. March 12, 2024 - This place is a money grab & Drs recommend unnecessary expensive procedures and will refuse conservative treatment. They require you to fill out multiple pages of paperwork saying you are being considered for pain mgmt medications, but the Drs will tell you that you have to fail surgery first before you will be considered for medication treatment. I saw Dr Hanna and he told me that he only prescribes meds to end of life cancer patients and obese patients that cannot safely receive injections. I got a 2nd epidural with him even through I expressed that the 1st one did not work and actually worsened my pain. I got one from him despite my gut instinct telling me not to, and my pain worsened. He then told me I needed an SI joint injection to either help my pain, or for "diagnostic purposes". He told me my only other options were a spinal spacer implant, or spinal fusion. That is not conservative treatment to me. My appt was cancelled the day before the injection was scheduled because he supposedly left the practice (he is still listed on the website) and the surgery center tried to steer me into getting an epidural from a Dr I'd never spoken with before. I declined and opted to schedule a follow up with a new Dr first. When I looked at my medical records for the procedure with Dr. Hanna it showed I had an injection in Fountain Valley and was given local lidocaine anesthetic only. I was given the epidural in Fullerton at Alliance Surgery Center, and was put completely under with Propofol (I asked the nurse after what I was given because I did not know I was going to be put completely under). My medical records do not reflect this. The new Dr, Dr. Watson told me that medications cannot be prescribed unless I have surgery 1st and it does not work. She told me my only options were to get an SI injection for the chronic severe hip pain, or to get nerve ablation. When I told her what else I can do since injections worsened my pain she said she had never had anyone have worsened pain. Um, I'm telling you that was my experience lady, please do not gaslight me. She did not offer ANY solutions for my chronic severe low back pain that was worsened by the last epidural. These are NOT conservative treatments. They are expensive treatments that do not offer relief. This place advertises that they offer non-opioid, opioid treatments as well as "interventional" (injections, nerve ablation) procedures and implant procedures. Be forewarned they only offer expensive injections, implants and refer for surgery. When you ask for conservative treatments (as in mediations that can be DISCONTINUED if you experience side effects or if they do not help) they will tell you that more injections are conservative or you can move forward with ablation, implants or surgery. Additionally, if you atempt to request medical records the office will direct you to their website, and there is no way to request medical records from them in the portal (which is memorial care mychart). Memorial Care customer service directs you back in circles to the location even though they are memorial care providers. For the medical records I was able to see, it was disturbing to see that they marked my visit with "denies mood swings denies anxiety" when these were both discussed to the contrary, the Dr recommended the injection in a surgery center DUE TO ANXIETY, and the steroid injections are known to worsen mood disorders. Check your medical records, this place does not keep accurate records and they will refer you for non-conservative treatments that may not help you in order to bill your insurance more money. read more

good morning, never ever in my life have I had such a nightmare experience with a doctors office. Pain Medicine no matter which location you call NO ONE NO ONE EVER ANSWERS THE PHONE. Sometimes an answer service will answer they do not have extensions to reach anyone so they say. They send a email and yet again no response. They need to be closed down ! How are they allowed to ignore patients?? I see Dr. Iqbal at his other location in Fountain Valley off Brookhurst. I have never had a doctor that cared more or truly listens to you then Dr. Iqbal. His staff is friendly, he always answers back my messages within a few hours, and really does whatever he can to help you as much as he is able. The second pain management doctor I have had, and one of the best doctors I have ever had no matter what specialty. Dr. Wong at the Long Beach location was attentive, asked pertinent questions and showed genuine concern for my elderly mother who needs a little management and organization for all the pains she is dealing with. Dr. Wong and front desk staff were patient. They are friendly, I never wait long, and things get done so quickly. Stormy is so helpful and on top of things. The Doctor takes his time and explains things. I initially went to a different provider where I felt disrespected and like I was just a number. Pain Medicine Associates is the exact opposite. I have been Dr. Iqbal's patient for several years now. The staff at this place is horrible! I literally had to go up to the place to get an appointment for my mom. When we called from home, the lady kept putting us on hold and even hung up on us one time. Now, my mom received her referral for treatment, we called to get an appointment, the lady said that they didn't have a referral for treatment for my mom. So we aske can we use the one we have and the lady said no. My mom really likes the doctor, but the office lady, well, I hope no one ever treats her mother this way. read more

I have been a patient of Pain Medicine Associates for 10+ years and can confidently say I have never met another physician as calculated, skilled, and compassionate as Dr. Iqbal. He is an out-of-the-box, critical thinker and spends real, actual time with his patients to understand the "bigger picture" so as to most accurately direct treatment options and care. He is a true professional and I am fortunate and grateful to be his patient. I am also grateful for the fantastic staff at the Long Beach office who (despite the craziness that is pain management) are somehow still cool, collected, responsive, and genuinely a great team. This medical office is the best!! (And I've been to quite a few). Dr Iqubal is simply amazing. Kind, caring and really listens to you. He is also very knowledgeable and takes his time with you. I'm never rushed and he always remembers everything we've talked about. He always is easy to reach via email or phone. The staff is also very friendly and efficient. The wait time is awesome. Worst experience ever, receptionist never answer and it's impossible to schedule appointment in any location. I had to go through the insurance department in order to get assistance with scheduling Amanda was very kind and understanding she verified my insurance and explained that they did not accept my IPA and told me step by step what I had to do, in other words she made the process way much easier. My PCP had put in the wrong authorization so I was transferred to Heather in the authorization department and she went over and beyond to fix the issue. FIVE STARS TO THEM BOTH! After everything was resolved I tried for weeks to contact either office and no answer. Left voicemails and none were returned. After I got through the front desk was very rude and couldn't schedule until a month or two out so I got redirected to a different pain management! This facility is the best that it gets! I have been a patient here for a couple of years. The doc that I see (Iqbal) is kind, compassionate and TRULY cares what happens to me. It is so rare to find that in any doctor these days, but especially pain Mgmt docs.
