Conner, my favorite Physical Therapist - but they are all good!
    KM C.

A Recovery Journey Worth Celebrating After major neck surgery, I specifically requested Southland Physical Therapy by name--and they exceeded every expectation. This facility became my path back to full conditioning, and I'm grateful for every session. What struck me immediately was the diversity of the patient community: athletes training for competition, working professionals recovering from injuries, people of all ages united by one thing--a willingness to do the work. That environment itself became motivating. The entire team deserves recognition. Every therapist and PTA brought expertise and genuine care to their work. The operational excellence impressed me too: reminders arrived the day before appointments, they consistently ran on time despite high volume, and every interaction came with a smile. A special acknowledgment to Conner, who balanced knowledgeable instruction with the perfect level of challenge. Each week, he pushed me just beyond what I'd accomplished the week before--exactly what I needed to progress. Beyond physical recovery, Southland reminded me of something essential: how to stay positive regardless of the challenges we face. That lesson extends far beyond the treatment room. If you're willing to put in the work, this is where you want to be.

10/10 would come back! Highly recommend! I partially tore my MCL at the start of the snow season snowboarding. I was able to start physical therapy in February. I found Southland Physical Therapy and met Sami! He told me I'd be able to snowboard again before the snow season ended! He wasn't wrong, by mid April I started to feel almost 100% and was able to snowboard, play soccer, and play basketball as if I never was injured! They really know how to challenge you in a good way to get back on your feet sooner! The exercises are challenging and fun! They also tailor the exercises based off your background and skill (like if you're a soccer player they'll do soccer oriented drills). Special shoutout and thanks physical therapists Sami, Laura, and Sebastian and physical therapy aids Ri, Kayla, Q, and Roz! Overall great experience, all the physical therapists and aids were great!

I have been going to Southland PT for several months now for a few different issues. They have been very helpful and I really enjoy going in and getting my therapy...even though it does kick my butt sometimes! It has really helped me feel much better and stronger. And all of the therapists there are really nice and friendly. Today was the last day in their old location near Lowe's and now they will be next to the TJ Maxx at Stearns and Bellflower. I am looking forward to the new larger location!

Ask the Community - Southland Physical Therapy

Hello. I used to go to a place called Sohma in Lakewood where I would get massages covered under my insurance. I know you are a physical therapy facility but do you offer…

At this time, we do not offer massage services like those you may have received at Sohma. Our clinic focuses on physical therapy, which is centered around treating injuries, pain, and movement limitations through skilled, medically necessary care.…

Hi, do you accept SCI patients? Will you need a prescription from his doctor? What other documents do you require before rehab? ..... thank you.

We do accept SCI patients depending on the injury. Depending on your insurance some insurances require an RX from your MD. Our website has all the forms needed before your appointment to make it easy when you come in for your initial evaluation.…

Is there a location in Los in Alamitos?

According to the website, Long Beach is the closest location to Los Alamitos.

Do any of the doctors specialize in rehab of total knee replacements?

Yes our physical therapists specialize in treating total knee replacements.

My insurance is HMO. Do I have to be referred by my PCP to be there?

Hi Eille Yes all HMO patients need a referral from PCP or specialist

Do you accept work comp patients?

We do work with workers comp patients. I have attached our website that allows you to see what insurances we work with https://southlandpt.com/insurance/

Thank you for the recommendations! I finally have my ortho appointment & will get my Rx for PT. Of the two PTs you recommended (Cam or James) who would be the best fit for shoulder work? Is it possible to get an appointment for next week?

Hey Stacy! All of our PTs are trained to handle any type of shoulder issue so either PT would be able to help you. I am going to give you the office number and go ahead and…

Thank you Joe for answering my question. I'm disappointed to find out Josiah is no longer with you. He was an excellent PT. I will be returning to have my shoulder worked on. Can you recommend one of your therapists with the same level of expertise?

We were sorry to lose Josiah ourselves as he is a wonder physical therapist but that being said we have one of the owners treating in in Long Beach his name is James Lee and also the PT that trained Josiah Cam Rau is also working there. I promise…

Does Josiah Leung still work there?

I am sorry Stacy Josiah does not work with Southland anymore. Is there something I can help you with?

Someone showed me a list of doctors specializing in helping the pain management. Unfortunately I selected this office and doctor. I waited several months to see him. When I got there a woman (Dr.?, Dr.'s assistant?, not really sure) saw me, asked questions and she filled out papers for 10-minutes, maybe more. I wanted her to know I had a muscular disease and was receiving shots around my eyes (she wouldn't let me finish my sentence) and she yelled at me "NECK" ! I ignored her rudeness and attempted to finish. Again she would not let me finish my sentence and raised her voice in a nasty tone and yelled "NECK" again ! " I guess my sentence to say they sometimes they gave shots in the neck and I was making sure a Dr. knew and my health would not be jeopardy was of no interest to her or the staff. She told me to go make another appointment. I was shocked. They made me wait for 2 months, maybe more , and they were not going to do anything. I complained to the girl at the desk and she said "Oh we just had something come up next week". I came the following week (thus far no one has told me what they are going to do, the game plan, I knew nothing about the procedure, effects, follow up ). I came in someone told me to lay on the table. In fairness, my first few minutes with Dr. Beshai was good. He told me there would be a pinch and he even asked me if I was okay after the shot. Then he turned around without explanation and started to leave. I asked "May I ask a question?". I started to tell him the 3 muscular diseases I had. Again, just like the unprofessional woman he stopped me and said "WHAT IS YOUR QUESTION? " I started to finish my sentence by saying that I received shots around the eyes, jaw and I didn't get to finish AGAIN when he said, "WHAT IS YOUR QUESTION? ". Keep in mind this is a Dr. answering a new patient. I had a lot of questions..therapy, continuation of shots, what did he just do , but with his nasty manner, I chose not to bother. He obviously didn't want to be bothered with just another person, case, number or file. They told me to come back in a couple months. I called in and spoke to one of the girls to give them an update as the girls had requested. The day I came in (they have a 3 tier parking lot and construction or something was going on). I sat in my car for about 15 minutes until they let us go to the top lot (meanwhile my foot is bleeding from an operation I had had the day before). I didn't tell them when I got there, I didn't believe they would care. I got there. The woman from my first visit met with me, she was very polite this time, asked 2 questions : Did I Have a change of medicine and how was I feeling? I asked her what the game plan was and she briefly went over the "Band aid" as I called it and she agreed. I'm assuming after meeting 5 minutes that my next shot was going to happen in a few minutes. She told me to go back and make another appointment (which would have been 2 more months. I stated to the girl in the front "this was a scam, you called me here after a 2 month wait for 5 minutes and questions that could have been asked over telephone, e-mail, text, or at the shot time. I said this was ridiculous, it appears to be a scam. She said all doctors do this and insurance has us do that. WRONG !. (I did my homework ) I was so angry I pulled my car over and asked to speak to the office manager, she wouldn't do it. And I quote from the untrained , unprofessional, RUDE" girl "Maybe if you get here on time we'll give you more than 5 minutes". I knew then I would never go back, you are not a patient, you are a number , a file, a punching bag. When they sent me a reminder of my visit, I basically said what I have just written,. The culture in that office is horrible. It is one of 2 things. The leader (the doctor) sets the tone and the employees follow him/her by example. If he treats people unprofessionally , if his assistant does the same thing, then the others will do the same thing , or the culture has gotten so bad that nobody cares and everybody does their own thing in how they treat the customers or file/number people. I found another doctor in a week and saw him and filled all the papers at the same time, like the 30-40 doctors I have seen in the last 12 years due to cancer and surgeries. Bring someone with you to witness what is said or what you asked. Do not sit and be polite like I did , if the doctor doesn't answer you and politely, TELL HIM, and let your insurance company know about 5 minute visits, the contents of those visits and the horrible treatment and responses to your questions and that "If you are good , you'll get more than a 5 minute visit. My last two visits were over $500 and there was no explanation only to pay or I can't be seen. They could also not provide me a statement. I reviewed my EOB and realized, I have been over charged. Long story, short....i reached out to their billing dept. IRENE CURIEL responded with half ass responses and could not provide me an itemized statement so she produced her own version. On top of that they provided me a refund, which was questionable. Then 16 months later they deposited a check for $530 and told me it was owed for services...AFTER they provided me the refund for being overcharged!! I went back and questioned IRENE and she has ignored me. I am owed a refund for the $530 and now have to go through the legal process. This office did nothing for my pain only attempted to squander money out of me and it looks like others. It's unfortunate because I was willing to settle this amicably but IRENE doesn't want to be bothered and unprofessionally does not respond. I would not attend this facility. There are other qualified pain management specialists. I have a new one, extremely qualified and have only paid my co-pay.

The x-rays, tests, medical history and good listening skills provided me and Dr. D with the real problem that happened 46 years ago. That was when I was working in the OR (while I was going to college) and assisted the rest of the OR team in pulling a patient off of the operating table. I pinched 3 nerves that were time bombs of a congenital nature just waiting to go off. Also, Dr. D was able to determine that I have a mild case of scoliosis that is contributory to the reoccurring injuries every 3-6 months. Also, I have all of this on a CD for use in providing information in the future too. He even gave me Rx's (thank you Percocet and Darvocet-N) for the pain just in case I have relapses before my next epidural, where they do painless cortisone injections between the disks to keep the pressure off of the nerves. He is an associate with several other pain management MD's in this office and they are ALL top notch in their field.
