I walked into Dr Beshai's office in so much back pain I needed a cane to walk. I was told I needed surgery as soon as possible. But decided to try pain management first. Dr Beshai was awesome..he went through my history and tests and said let's see what we can do to get you back on your feet. He started injection procedures. He is gentle and professional and helped me feel at ease during my procedures . I'm on my third series and he has me working with it pain and walking without a cane. I had several very bad experiences at Mission Advanced Pain Ctr. with Dr. Beshai and his staff. I had degenerated neck discs and had been in therapy for several months, had seen neurologists , neuro surgeons and others. Someone showed me a list of doctors specializing in helping the pain management. Unfortunately I selected this office and doctor. I waited several months to see him. When I got there a woman (Dr.?, Dr.'s assistant?, not really sure) saw me, asked questions and she filled out papers for 10-minutes, maybe more. I wanted her to know I had a muscular disease and was receiving shots around my eyes (she wouldn't let me finish my sentence) and she yelled at me "NECK" ! I ignored her rudeness and attempted to finish. Again she would not let me finish my sentence and raised her voice in a nasty tone and yelled "NECK" again ! " I guess my sentence to say they sometimes they gave shots in the neck and I was making sure a Dr. knew and my health would not be jeopardy was of no interest to her or the staff. She told me to go make another appointment. I was shocked. They made me wait for 2 months, maybe more , and they were not going to do anything. I complained to the girl at the desk and she said "Oh we just had something come up next week". I came the following week (thus far no one has told me what they are going to do, the game plan, I knew nothing about the procedure, effects, follow up ). I came in someone told me to lay on the table. In fairness, my first few minutes with Dr. Beshai was good. He told me there would be a pinch and he even asked me if I was okay after the shot. Then he turned around without explanation and started to leave. I asked "May I ask a question?". I started to tell him the 3 muscular diseases I had. Again, just like the unprofessional woman he stopped me and said "WHAT IS YOUR QUESTION? " I started to finish my sentence by saying that I received shots around the eyes, jaw and I didn't get to finish AGAIN when he said, "WHAT IS YOUR QUESTION? ". Keep in mind this is a Dr. answering a new patient. I had a lot of questions..therapy, continuation of shots, what did he just do , but with his nasty manner, I chose not to bother. He obviously didn't want to be bothered with just another person, case, number or file. They told me to come back in a couple months. I called in and spoke to one of the girls to give them an update as the girls had requested. The day I came in (they have a 3 tier parking lot and construction or something was going on). I sat in my car for about 15 minutes until they let us go to the top lot (meanwhile my foot is bleeding from an operation I had had the day before). I didn't tell them when I got there, I didn't believe they would care. I got there. The woman from my first visit met with me, she was very polite this time, asked 2 questions : Did I Have a change of medicine and how was I feeling? I asked her what the game plan was and she briefly went over the "Band aid" as I called it and she agreed. I'm assuming after meeting 5 minutes that my next shot was going to happen in a few minutes. She told me to go back and make another appointment (which would have been 2 more months. I stated to the girl in the front "this was a scam, you called me here after a 2 month wait for 5 minutes and questions that could have been asked over telephone, e-mail, text, or at the shot time. I said this was ridiculous, it appears to be a scam. She said all doctors do this and insurance has us do that. WRONG !. (I did my homework ) I was so angry I pulled my car over and asked to speak to the office manager, she wouldn't do it. And I quote from the untrained , unprofessional, RUDE" girl "Maybe if you get here on time we'll give you more than 5 minutes". I knew then I would never go back, you are not a patient, you are a number , a file, a punching bag. When they sent me a reminder of my visit, I basically said what I have just written,. The culture in that office is horrible.It is one of 2 things. The leader (the doctor) sets the tone and the employees follow him/her by example. If he treats people unprofessionally , if his assistant does the same thing, then the others will do the same thing , or the culture has gotten so bad that nobody cares and everybody does their own thing in how they treat the customers or file/number people. I found another doctor in a week and saw him and filled all the papers at the same time, like the 30-40 doctors I have seen in the last 12 years due to cancer and surgeries. Bring someone with you to witness what is said or what you asked. Do not sit and be polite like I did , if the doctor doesn't answer you and politely, TELL HIM, and let your insurance company know about 5 minute visits, the contents of those visits and the horrible treatment and responses to your questions and that "If you are good , you'll get more than a 5 minute visit. HORRIBLE, UNPROFESSIONAL, and THE PASTIENT IS TREATED LIKE JUST A NUMBER ! read more

The Doctor care was ok however, I wound up going to another practice. Every time I went in for service, I was charged $$...understandably. My last two visits were over $500 and there was no explanation only to pay or I can't be seen. They could also not provide me a statement. I reviewed my EOB and realized, I have been over charged. Long story, short....i reached out to their billing dept. IRENE CURIEL responded with half ass responses and could not provide me an itemized statement so she produced her own version. On top of that they provided me a refund, which was questionable. Then 16 months later they deposited a check for $530 and told me it was owed for services...AFTER they provided me the refund for being overcharged!! I went back and questioned IRENE and she has ignored me. I am owed a refund for the $530 and now have to go through the legal process. This office did nothing for my pain only attempted to squander money out of me and it looks like others. It's unfortunate because I was willing to settle this amicably but IRENE doesn't want to be bothered and unprofessionally does not respond. I would not attend this facility. There are other qualified pain management specialists. I have a new one, extremely qualified and have only paid my co-pay. read more

Worst " pain management" ever. Didn't even look at my knee. Refused to address my tendinitis in my shoulder. Quality of care is a ZERO of ten. They sent me off to get an MRI before he would do anything. Said im "too young" for medication. 0/10. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. got a PPO? Dont bother with this asshole. Got a MHO? Received a follow up call from Dr Beshai as usual he was the caring and compassionate Doctor I've always dealt with. After chatting he let me know he would personally assist me in my care and would stay updated with me going forward. I received a call the following week approved for my procedure and the office attendant even managed to squeeze me in after I let her know my pain level. I was referred to Dr. Beshai by my surgeon as an alternative to possible back surgery. Making an appointment was fast and simple. The interview went well, and due to my extreme pain due to nerve problems, in the area of my Lombard region. The pain then radiated downward in my left leg......it felt like my shin was on fire if I stood on it for more than a few minutes. The day of my appointment my interview went well, with Dr. Beshai having a warm personality and knowing the pain I was in, decided he would do the procedure that day. He explained the epidural procedure as he went along. After the shot, I rested for on the table for around 10 minutes. My pain seemed to dissipate even as I returned to my car. That night my pain, which had been excruciating seemed to have lessen, by the next morning I had very little if any pain. Also the next day, after the procedure, I received a call from his office to see how I was doing.......something rare indeed in today's world. I had originally made an appointment with another pain management doctor who I had seen prior to Dr Beshai, however after seeing this other doctor and being told he couldn't schedule the epidural for another "4weeks" when I asked the doctor what was I supposed to do for another four weeks he simply shrugged. That's when, the next morning I called Dr Beshai office and never looked back. This was 4 weeks ago, today being my second visit, with absolutely no further pain. I was referred to the good Doctor, Dr. Beshai, by my orthopedic doc. I'm glad for the referral and treatment. I found Dr. Beshai to be kind and gentle and one of the better doctors I've crossed paths with. He explained the treatment for my herniated disc and I scheduled an appointment for treatment. Unfortunately I had a cellulitis infection and Dr. Beshai was concerned enough to advise we reschedule until the acute phase passed. I've found Dr. Beshai to be a more than an adequate medical professional and I highly recommend him! So schedule that appointment and get some relief! (After one session my pain level has improved!) and I plan on returning for two more treatments. I hope this helps with YOUR medical issue as well. read more

I am so disappointed in the services from Dr. Alfred J Beshai. He's extremely rude and treated my mom like a number. He was very minimal on explaining the procedure he was performing on my mom. When I asked questions he was irritated and answered me in a very condescending manner. When I provided feedback on how my mom was doing a few days later, he wanted nothing to do with it. He said that she was fine when she left and if she's feeling any symptoms then she can go the the emergency room. He didn't bother to ask questions or show any concern. He also had his office remove me as a primary contact because he would rather not hear that everything didn't go perfectly. I've never come across a doctor that has been so rude and cold. I will do everything possible so that my mom or I will never have to see him again! By the way, I'm not one to write reviews especially negative ones but I felt that I needed to warn patients so that they don't have to be subjected to this Doctor. If I could leave zero stars I would. At my first visit I was hopeful that I had found a Doctor that would help with my chronic pain and let me tell you I was so disappointed by my third appointment I have chose to no longer see this Dr.. He discussed the treatment that he thought was best for me on my first visit, afterwards I ready myself to go forward with the treatment. At the second appointment it was like he had never seen me before discussed a treatment he wanted to start much to my confusion being at the first appointment he said that particular treatment wouldn't work. I asked if he had reviewed my mri he said no scrolling through my file said oh yeah there it is he skimmed through it and said ok let check insurance benefits and by next appointment I will have a plan for you. So now I have left 2 appointment with no treatment. Appointment 3 he states I should go ahead and try the treatment again because he doesn't want me to have to do surgery it's very invasive. My jaw dropped as I reminded him AGAIN I have had 2 surgeries already. He says ok we will check insurance benefits on procedure and let you know next time. Wait this is my third appointment you have told me you would do the same thing 3 times I have made 3 copays and have absolutely no plan for treatment. Unbelievable and goodbye!! My mom has cervical stenosis and suffered chronic and severe pain on her neck and shoulders. She has done multiple PT, acupuncture, applied hundreds of salonpas, tried pain pills and pain relieving creams but nothing worked for her. She was referred to a surgeon but because of her age, we thought she would be a high risk for surgery so we sought other options. We were referred to Dr Beshai, Pain Specialist, at his Lakewood office. He was very professional and evaluated my mom's joints gently. He listened to her concerns and offered treatment options. Dr Beshai explained his plan for three Cervical injections on intervals and we agreed. Fast forward, I am pleased to share that after the 1st injection, my mom's pain was relieved from a 10 to a 6. A few weeks later, she had the 2nd injection and my mom's pain dropped to 3. On the 3rd injection, my mom's pain became zero!! My mom was able to get back with her life and do her daily activities. She feels great and became more functional than ever before. She now enjoys her gardening which makes her very happy. Dr. Beshai is a great doctor and knows how to treat pain. Dr. Beshai is a fantastic pain management doctor. I was first referred to him for cortisone injections in my right hip to alleviate the pain I had prior to my full complex right hip replacement surgery. Dr. Beshai is extremely patient and kind. He was very thorough in his explanations of the procedures he would be conducting. He also isn't limited to treating a patient for what they were referred to him for. For example, I was referred to him for cortisone injections in my hip, but in my first appointment with him, he observed that I had lower left back issues due to my hip issues and made a suggestion for a procedure (radio frequency ablation) to alleviate that pain as well. Dr. Beshai creates an atmosphere in which his patients feel comfortable in expressing their concerns and questions. He is a doctor who truly, genuinely cares for his patients! Edit: Dear Mr. DuVall, thank you for replying. Just to give a little more detail, what really hurt us was that 1. We came in telling him why we came, because we've had two epidurals already, to no effect. 2. The referred surgeon turned us down from surgery, and said to manage via pain management. What could we do today that would alleviate any of the pain as we're desperate. What is causing all the pain? And those were the two options Dr. Bashai gave us again, to get an epidural and get a referral to a spine surgeon. We said that's why we're here, those options didn't work. So that's when he said sorry, I don't know what else I can do. And that was that. We sat there a little stunned and he returned to just tell us where the exit door is. I'm sorry to break the streak of accolades. We had high hopes coming here, and the staff was really wonderful. After suffering months of the HMO waiting game and repeated visits to the ER, we went out of the system to get help for my boyfriend's undiagnosed pain and spine problems. We were willing to pay out of pocket to get any relief, he's lost so much weight, wakes up screaming at night clutching his hip and back, and is on the highest level of prescriptions there is. We came here and Dr Bashai seemed nice at first but then about five minutes into the appointment was rushed and said he couldn't help us. He apologized and said he didn't know what to do, shook our hands and left. Isn't he the pain and spine specialist?? I was referred to Dr. Beshai by my personal physician for extreme pain in my thigh. I was not pleased by Dr. Beshai's demeanor. He came into my exam room angry and behaved in a totally unprofessional and rude manner. He did all of the talking. He is not a listener. He basically intimated that I was a pill/drug scammer. According to him, it looked as if I was going from doctor to doctor to score drugs. Wow. He told me I was probably there to play on his sympathy and get a fresh supply of pills. After he finished his tirade, and a flimsy exam, I left his office. The sum result of my visit with him was no diagnosis, no recommendation, no help. However, Dr. Beshai did properly bill and receive a hefty payment from Medicare for my so-called visit. Several days later, I went to a chiropractor and received a treatment for my pain. In twenty minutes, my pain was reduced by ninety percent. No pills, no shots, no surgery, no egomaniac. Just professional relief from my pain. I discussed this matter with my personal physician, and he apologized for making this referral. He agreed that I was the last person anyone would ever accuse of being a drug scammer. I have been suffering with low back pain for the past five years and have been to 3 different pain management specialists, unfortunately they were unable to relieve my pain. REST ASSURED, this man, and his staff, have done all of above for me and my mother. My mother has been in debilitating pain in her neck starting in the early part of 2016. Her pain was so great, it was to the point to where she couldn't walk 5 ft without asking to sit down. It was excruciating. (Talk about breaking my heart). I truly felt that there was no solution. I was referred to Dr Beshai by one of the Dr's on our medical team, (My mother and I have the same Dr's). We went to Dr Beshai for a consultation and my impression of him has been from day one to be not only positive but attentive, compassionate, honest, EXTREMELY HUMBLE and in search of a solution. This man is FAR FROM an ego maniac and anyone who says different, (EH-HEM, EH-HEM), obviously has an issue with defining another human and also an issue with their own authenticity and honesty. There is an old saying that I know of and I have lived by it for many years. "If you have been to 3 places and If 3 people tell you that you have a tail, gee, you probably have a tail." There is a reason why one might be "chasing" place after place after place. (Rolling my eyes) Let me be clear, I am not a personal friend of the Dr nor am I a family member. I am simply a man that loves his mother and would NEVER EVER EVER, risk her well being to anyone unless I felt 100% confident that the Dr at hand was capable of taking GREAT, not good, GREAT care of her. He has brought my mother to the place of being able to walk again. To freely browse the aisles of Costco and the grocery store. I actually get emotional when I think about what this man has done for my mother. He is not a man that subscribes to the financial gains that one might get from a turnstile Dr's office or a place that doles out pain killers to people just to quick fix or to feed a "need". He is THAT protective of his patients. People are put on this earth to do certain things. I honestly believe that this man was placed on this earth to be of service to those in need of recovery from pain. In closure, if you are in pain, I would support you in seeing Dr Beshai. You as a patient have the right to walk away and leave. No one forces you to be anywhere. If you don't have a good experience, you get to jump ship as we all do. I for one, my mother, and MANY MANY others for that matter who appreciate him............will not. The man made a miracle happen for my mother. He gave her, her freedom back.
