Not as big as some of the other ones, but I've always had a good time and been really comfortable with my painting experience at that location. My cousins and I recently went to the Ferndale location (our second time there), and it will probably be our last for a really long time, if ever. After a not-so-fun time at the Ferndale location the day before, I signed up for a different Disney painting the next day at the Roseville location with Emily and WHAT A DIFFERENCE! They pre-outlined the shapes on the canvas for everyone. Kept track of everyone that was coming in and delayed the class from starting for a bit waiting for a couple people. They played Disney movie songs while we all painted a Disney movie picture. Both her and her assistant, A'Janae, interacted with the customers, got involved in the conversation when everyone was talking about one Disney movie or another, etc. Both instructors we ready and able to help, and would even refill paint without the person asking because they noticed it first. Emily was very patient, and explained her techniques and brush strokes slowly and clearly. Suggested we practice on our napkins or plates to make sure we understood. They weren't in a hurry to rush everyone out of the door. They stuck around and took pictures of the seperate groups that were there. It was my first time going to this location and I was very pleased I made the drive. It was worth it.

I went yesterday for a friend's birthday party and it was a lot of fun. It was easy to sign up and pay online beforehand ($40). I didn't know what we would be creating until we arrived - I'm not sure if my friend chose that, or PWAT chose for her. I think our instructor's name was Rachel, and she was very good. I'm not really good at painting, my painting came out okay overall IMO though. You're allowed to bring drinks and food, I think my friend and some of the other attendees brought some alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and some snacks. The class is two hours long and you'll leave with a nice painting of your own creation. They also had a contest mid-class where we could guess the number of wine corks in a big bottle, and I was the winner! (I was only four off - I won't tell you the # though because I think they do this every class) Because of that, I was able to choose a painting from the wall, and I really love the one I chose. I believe these paintings are done by instructors. Overall I'd come back here again although it's a little bit of an expensive habit if you go often ($40 each time).

It's cool to see everyone's unique twist on the original design. We even decided to add some glow in the dark fireflies to our paintings. I thought it was really nice that they let our friend pick a painting off the wall to take home since she was celebrating her birthday. You are allowed to bring food and beverages into the building, and there is some alcohol available for purchase. This was a fantastic experience and I'll definitely be back!

The instructors, Erica and Ben (I believe, please correct me if I have the names wrong), were fun, encouraging, and incredibly helpful. Unlike a typical "paint and sip" class, the instructors demonstrate a few techniques and then it's basically just a free paint time while they come around offering help if needed. They offer helpful tips for tackling some of the trickier details, like eyes, fur texture, shading, and color mixing. I also love that you can choose your canvas size, with pricing based on the size you select. They even offer a wood canvas option if you're looking for something a little different. You're welcome to bring one sealed bottle of wine per person, and many people also brought snacks. If you prefer, beverages are available for purchase at the studio as well. A few days before class, you'll email them a photo of your pet. I had so many favorites that I sent three different pictures! They chose the one that would translate best into a painting and be the easiest to sketch. When you arrive, your canvas is already prepared with a hand drawn outline of your pet, along with the printed reference photo you submitted. After a brief introduction and some painting tips, you're given your paint colors and get to work. Throughout the class, the instructors walk around offering one-on-one guidance, and they were amazing. I struggled with areas like the eyes and mouth and felt my painting looked a little flat at first. After the instructors spent a few minutes helping me, everything started to come together, and by the end of class it truly looked like my sweet little boy. I was amazed by the transformation. One of my favorite memories was bringing my mom to a class. She had lost her beloved dog, Bailey, just a few months earlier. At one point she became discouraged and almost gave up on her painting, but the instructors were so kind and patient. They took the time to help her, and by the end of class she was overwhelmed with emotion. The finished painting brought tears to her eyes, and it became such a healing, cathartic experience for her. To this day, she tells me that every time she walks past Bailey's portrait, she blows her a kiss. I later returned with a couple of friends, and the following year one of them lost her sweet boy. She told me how grateful she was to have shared this experience and to have that beautiful painting to remember him by. I truly cherish the paintings of my boys and am so thankful for the wonderful experiences I've had here. This class creates so much more than a painting, it creates a lasting memory of the pets we love so deeply. I can't recommend it enough, and I sincerely hope they continue offering it for years to come. If you've been thinking about taking this class, do it. It's absolutely worth it I promise!

I hadn't attempted anything creative since the last art class I had in grade school. But I was interested when I saw they offered a Zentangle class which promised the only artistic ability you needed was to draw a stick figure. I took the class and ended up really enjoying it. It is essentially structured, meditative doodling. I came back for several more Zentangle classes when I found it was a great way to relieve stress and get out of the rut of logical, left-brain thinking. I never intended to create great art, but rather to get in touch with the creative part of my brain and to enjoy the meditative qualities of creating art. But I enjoyed Zentangle so much that I eventually branched out and tried several other classes that included things like intuitive painting, sculpture, and traditional Japanese Sumi-e black ink painting. Each class was fun and informative, and I was surprised to find sometimes I actually liked some of the art I created, too, and not just the process. The owner, Debby, and the instructors have all been great. They clearly love helping people learn and get in touch with their creativity. Articipate offers a wide variety of events, classes and lessons. It seems like there is something for everyone - regardless of age and whether you consider yourself artistic or not. It seems like a glut of places have popped up in the past few years offering private "paint parties". I have been to a couple of those and while they can be fun, this place takes an approach that is much more fun and engaging than a one size fits all "paint by numbers" approach - regardless of artistic ability. I encouraged anyone interested to check out what they offer and let the friendly owner and instructors help you get in touch with your creative side.
