Paint This! initially seemed a great way to spend the afternoon with my niece. I agree with other reviewers that even though they had several workers, they were uninterested in helping customers. The real problem arose when I went to pick up the items. They couldn't find the cat my niece had painted. She was devastated, since she had worked so hard on the item. They refunded the $12 dollars for the cat, but did not refund the cost of the hour painting. So essentially, I would have to pay to pay for ANOTHER hour of painting to replace what they lost. When I asked nicely, the girl dismissed me and said "sorry, that's the best I can do." When I asked if they would call if they found the missing cat I was told, "Uh, I guess so." Ultimately, an relatively expensive waste of time. They need more involved workers, and a better organizational system if they are going to charge their current prices. My boyfriend and I went here on a date. We loved it. The staff was very nice but also wasn't overbearing... we didn't feel rushed at all. I wish they had some more items but it took me forever to pick out something to paint anyway so perhaps more items would not have been the best idea! Haha! We visited this venue with high hopes on 7/10. We were there to create a mosaic. When we arrived, we were told where to sit, the employee pointed to the glue, and the tiles and told us to go ahead with project. That was the sum total of interaction with staff until it was time to pay. No instruction, no cenourqge,ent, no suggestions on how to proceed. Very uninterested, unqualified, unenthusiastic young ladies employed there. One spent the entire visit, an hour and a half plus, gazing at a computer screen. We completed our project, and were pleased with the results. When we checked out, the employee neglected to give us the complete grout finishing kit. A young man who arrived as we were leaving helped out, explained the process, and was helpful. This business needs to get its act together and provide decent customer service. read more

i called a week ahead to make a reservation for a group of 8, the employee who picked up told me we could just walk in because they don't take reservations unless there's 10 or more people. when we walked in, the woman told us (at 3:30 pm) that we would have to wait two hours for a table, which would be close to their closing time... called two hours later to say there was no space and cancelled on our party's wait. the website said they recommend a reservation for groups over 6. read more

The location and venue are great. Paint This! is right in the middle of old town Alexandria and resides in the heart of King Street. The staff explains what you need to do and then they let you take over from there. It's great for painters that want to put a mark on their own experience, and the staff are at your disposal if you need them for anything at all. We've only gone on the weekend and there has always been a table available, even with a kids birthday party going on. The pottery is inexpensive and painting is only eight dollars an hour per active painter. There are loads of different colors to choose from and you can even do Mosaic. Perfect environment for a day out with your kids, friends, birthday party or to go on a date. Lastly, the turnaround is only about one week. I highly recommend this spot to anyone looking to bring out their creative side! read more

The staff is way less than enthusiastic. They seem bored and lacking in personality. Hours for this shop are inconvenient if you want to do a fun activity with the kids before lunchtime, since it doesn't open until noon. The shop hasn't been busy any of the instances when I visited, and the place is always clean and well organized. Paint This was awesome! Birthday party for my 10-year-old, reserved two hours for the event. Pre-selected five items, to make things easier and faster for the party. Adults and children painted and everyone had a blast. The staff was helpful without being intrusive. They allowed us to bring in pizza and a cake for the event. It cost $12 per person who painted for the two hours. The cost of items painted ranged from $7to $15. Would highly recommend for anyone hoping to have a birthday party event read more

I wish there were more of there types of places. Maybe I just can't find them. This place is really fun! Everytime we go, there same guy is there. He's quiet, but very nice and helpful. Sometimes there's a party of kids there, but usually its just me and my little group. We go at very odd hours during the day, when most people should be at work or school, though. There's a large selection of paintables: from figurines, piggy banks, light switch covers to complete tea, sake or serving sets. I'm usually terribly cheap and browse through the chipped items shelf whose contents are 50% off, if I remember right. Usually, theres a bunch of stuff there that is chipped on the inside and you'd never noticed its damaged. Its your little secret. :) There's a bunch of colors and types of paint from regular paint, puff paint and sparklies. There's also mosaics tiles, which are fun to smash. }:) Its a fun way to kill some time and get a new one of a kind coffee mug. read more

Prices were really reasonable, I paid about $28 for 3 hours of painting and 2 cups. They don't have quite the same range of colors as some other pottery painting places I went to, but they have a good variety of ceramic pieces and tools you can use. My only complaint is that the staff is not that helpful. When I came in, no one greeted me and I had to ask them what the process was. Then when I started, when I went to ask about certain colors or the pencils they seemed annoyed that I was asking questions. But if you've been to one pottery place, you've been to them all. The high rating is for the decent prices but the staff could be more helpful. read more

We were a little disappointed with our visit on 5/4/16. We decided to do mosaic and were really excited about it. First they were out of some of the options displayed (the square frame was out). Then We spent a lot of time picking out our colored tiles and kept in mind the grout color choices that would match. We got all the way to the end and were told that they didn't have white grout and didn't really seem apologetic. It ruined the look I was going for. Also, when we paid, we charged the $12.00 studio fee. I asked why and they said it was because mosaic usually takes longer. We only spent 45 mins making our projects. When we arrived they said $8 for one hour or $12 for unlimited. If you haven't been to a paint-ur-own-pottery place you are weird! It's a great time to show off (or prove that you do not have any) artistic ability. It's also a cool way to create a personalized gift or make something for yourself in your own style. Paint This is on par with other places I've been to. Prices of the things to paint are a little steeper but it is Alexandria. Rates for shop/supply usage is $8 per hour with a max charge of $12. The staff is very helpful and genuinely nice, though you have to wonder if they get tired of saying "that looks really great!" to everybody when the kid's coffee cup clearly looks as if it was created by a blind person. There were 2 groups that rotated through while I was creating my masterpiece (a parent/toddler group and an 8 year old girls B-Day party) - I did not witness the huge train-wrecks I was expecting though with all those kids. read more

The place was almost empty when we arrived. Being that it was the middle of the week I can imagine that weekends are a lot more crowded. Having the place mostly to ourselves was nice. The single staff working explained our options and then left us to attempt to harness our creativity. The studio cost is $8/hr and a maximum of $12 no matter how long you stay. You also pay for the item that you are working on. There are three options: paint ceramics such as a mug, butterfly, or vase; grouting mosaics onto boxes, mirrors, or wall hangings; or glass fusion. All of the supplies you will need are included in the purchase price of the item. For two of us, the total was about $60. As someone who likes to pretend to be crafty, I probably won't go on a regular basis because I can buy my own supplies. But for a unique and fun date idea it was perfect. They have an assortment of brushes in decent condition given the large number of kids that must pass through. Plenty of paint and color options. read more

Very well run operation the owners maybe AWOL but the two employees there are very helpful and friendly. Took daughter and 2 friends there $89 for 4 pieces and 2 hours of studio time GOOD DEAL!!!!!!! I painted a VW bug, daughter a reindeer, one friend a doggy bowl for her cat Bubbles and lastly Miracle painted a large flat dish with her name on it. Went back a week later to pick up pieces and the place was packed....very well wrapped up as I was taking the Metro and I was off. Would highly recommend this place..... read more

I had so much fun on my Saturday afternoon at Paint This. The staff is courteous and helpful, but does not interfere with the progress of your project. The pleasure of cleaning up after me was stolen by the staff; I do not begrudge them for it. $12 plus the paintable object for unlimited day access to the painting supplies is a steal for Old Town! Had a great experience here decorating a plate for my dad's bday with my 4-month old's hand and footprints. The staff was super friendly but not overbearing and they have plenty of ceramics and materials to use. Price wise I thought they were reasonable enough, although I could imagine with a larger party the $12 studio fee could certainly add up for 1 piece. But when you think about it, $30 for a personalized plate is a pretty sweet bday gifts for the grandparents for not that much. It would be cool if they had a return visitor's card so you could get a discount...maybe they do, I don't know...but I'd go back to find out. read more

My best friend surprise me and took me here for my birthday. When we arrived there was a child's birthday party so it was pretty loud. The space isn't really big so we decided to come back when the party was over. As were teachers and it isn't relaxing being in a room full of children after they've had cake. Once we began we picked from good selection of pottery. There were many paints and design tools to choice from. It was a great tranquil activity. I would love to do it again. read more

This place was pretty cool. I went on Saturday, August 9th and painted a cup. The staff was fairly nice and attentive. Upon out arrival we were greeted and told about the process. We were told to get ready for the painting and that someone would come and explain the color wall and how it works. The problem is no one came right away, which I found annoying. We ended up having to call someone to see to us even though we noticed them see us waiting. After we got rolling things got better and we received better service. I'm glad we had other people to tell us about the process because the first person neglected to tell us we would have to wait a week to get our finished items. Other than that, I think this place was alright and worth a visit. read more

I've been to this location twice. My second visit I had my own private party there with my meetup group. My guest and I had a really good time there. Michelle who work there was really, really great to work with. She had a location for us to setup our wine and small finger food items and we had a ball. My only problem was my guest and I wasn't happy about seeing the owners cat make a special guest appearance however, she did immediately have the cat removed. Overall, it's a really great place to go and enjoy by yourself, with the kids or a group private party. Awesome spot and I will be going back. read more

cute, cozy atmosphere. kind of pricey items, but worth it. whoever was working there that day (i went on a wednesday early afternoon) put on a wide variety of music, so it was entertaining, but also very therapeutic/calming. also a variety of paintable items available. and if you're not so much into painting, they also have a mosaic option. $8 for 1st hour of painting. $12 max. for the day. in total, i paid 24 for paint time + my giant mug. (i was there for about 2-3 hrs total) picking up items can take overnight, or a week. read more

We love this place, but beware... If you come in just to help your two-year-old-kid paint, you as the adult will be charged the FULL studio fee as well. I mean, cut us a little slack, a toddler can barely hold a brush, and the two of us together work far slower and use less paint per hour then any one of the older kids that come in here. They had a huge selection of things to paint (it was really hard to pick one thing) and paints, as well as all sorts of tools, brushes, stencils, etc. They were very friendly and helpful, and my mug came out beautiful! Went here to make a gift for friends birthday. At first glance seemed to be a really nice little shop with a well organized set up at the front. The problem mainly was the person who greeted us as we entered. The boy, I believe was named Ian, met us with a very unplesant odor. He had very poor hygeine. Unfortunately, that was just the beginning. My friend and I were really bothered by the way this one particular person treated the other employees; he constantly jumped in while they were trying to help us, and corrected everything they said in a very unprofessional manner. The biggest help we received that entire visit was from Alexis (?) I believe. She was wonderful, and honestly the only reason we would consider returning. read more

The mosaic section is well stocked and good for a fun project you can take right home. The addition of glass fusion was unexpected and so very welcome. This place was a lot of fun for my son and I. Though the price was a bit steep. We were there only for an hour, and painted a tea cup and saucer. Total price was a little over $32, which I wanted to double check, but we had to leave to meet some family. It was a bit confusing when we first walked in, couldn't tell the staff from the customers, no greeting or anything. However, once I figured out who he was, the staff was nice enough to explain the process to us and seemed open to questions. We liked being able to sit at our table and paint in peace without being badgered, and the selection of pottery and mosaic boards was nice and wide ranging. It takes about a week for pieces to be fired and ready for pick up. We don't live anywhere near Alexandria, but luckily a family member does, so they'll be able to pick our tea cup up once it's finished. I believe they also do parties, and they have a frequent painter pass. Definitely a neat time to be had for people of all ages. read more

Took my boyfriend's son there as he wanted to go to a ceramic studio. What a fabulous place! The offer mosaic work options and glass firing too. I had no idea what to expect and we ending up spending about 4.5 hours there and really got to enjoy true quality time together learning about one another thru our challenge to create something. AND it was so delightful to spend a day without the normal background noise of TV, Internet, video games and text messaging! It was a very intimate experience. One staff member helped me paint my toddler's hands to put on mugs for gifts for family - something I would not have been able to accomplish alone! Went on a Saturday evening with my 'Girls Night Out' group. How fun! The atmosphere was nice - calming music, and the staff was very friendly and so accommodating. Our party was there for quite a while, but we never felt rushed by the staff to finish up and get out, even though we stayed past their normal closing time. It was great! We had a fun time and laughed so much and have our painted ceramics to remind us of our time there. (We each selected a ceramic piece to paint and trade with another member of the group.). This is an activity our 'Girls Night Out' group will continue to do at least once a month. The cost of studio time is the most reasonable around ($12 per hour with $20 max, as opposed to $12 per hour, each and every hour, which would have cost us $36 anywhere else). We absolutely love you, Paint This! Thanks for the memorable (and inexpensive) experience! We will be back (again and again)! read more

There wasn't but a group of four when we got there and the women in there have a lot of patience! I commend them for helping my sister and I with the three kids we had. they of course finished their pottery before my sister and I and were bored while waiting on us to finish ours. It was a lot of fun and we all had a great time. I just wish it wasn't so expensive. read more

Wow, extremely disappointed! Thought this would be a fun activity for my friend and I and at first it actually was. They were out of certain colors for coaster making, which was frustrating. Once we finished, we were given no direction at all. So we waited there for 30 minutes, dropping hints that we were finished and not sure what to do next and yet the workers kept ignoring us. We were under the impression they would heat up our glass decoration right away and we would be able to walk out with them, but again, no direction or help. Finally they asked if we were ready to check out and said to come back and pick them up next week. Well I left town, but my friend was there and of course when he arrives, they can't find our designs and once they did they WEREN'T even ready. It had been a week!! So we did not receive a refund for wasting our time, and when my friend arrived the second weekend to pick them up, they couldn't find them again!!! Still no refund, and they got the order wrong. We asked for the glass to be heated flat NOT bumpy, and sure enough...they came back bumpy. Extremely frustrated. We deserve a refund. Please get organized and work on time-management skills.
