My first thought was "oh god they're going to tell us paint whatever you want" and that's not what I was looking for - I expected more of a paint by numbers and was a little dismayed when I got a blank canvas! Felipe was our instructor and he made me feel totally at ease. He had a great personality and awesome sense of humor. He was totally accommodating of my ADD (The class can be a little slow at times) and encouraged me to get really creative with my artwork. We had such a fantastic time! I would totally recommend this to anyone who is just looking for something fun to do or someone who needs a good stress reliever. I personally am a fan of coloring to relieve my stress but this is definitely a much better and more fun option in my opinion, especially because there's alcohol involved! We ran into a few snags at first because we Googled the address and it took us to a completely different place than the address that the Groupon listed. Good thing we checked-we were about to go knock on a random person's apartment door. We actually showed up to the studio early even with the delay, and that doesn't seem to be the trend. The other people in our party came a bit late because they had been pregaming a bit and the other 6 decided not to show at all. About 30-40 minutes after the official start time, Felipe decided to actually start the painting-and it's a good thing that he didn't wait for the rest of the class to show up. We wanted to paint a sailboat that we saw on the wall, but evidently since he was so sick of doing that particular one we played a little bit of improv. There was definitely people on the other side of me who ended up accidentally drinking their paint water instead of their wine and dunking their paintbrushes in wine. Having wine in cups instead of wine glasses (and next to paint water cups) is dangerous while drinking. We had a blast, Felipe is awesome and was drinking right along with us. He's very talented and clearly has fun doing what he does. The studio does adult parties with booze as well as a lot of parties for kids as well. I think this is an awesome way to relax and create something, even if you think you're not artistic. It's amazing to express yourself. Even if it ends up being an abstract.

You can participate in the still life of the day or you can do your own thing and either way the instructor will help and give positive advice and critiques. I'm not blaming the staff for everything, but the overall vibe didn't feel right for a family-friendly visit. When I arrived, my kids were in a room alone without any other kids around, which added to the sense that supervision and safety weren't up to what I expected. My kids also said the other children weren't very nice, and on our first day they were left in a room without continuous supervision. That lack of adequate oversight and the quality of interactions among the kids made the visit less enjoyable. On a positive note, the owner did refund us an hour which was an awkwardly rushed charge on my credit card, which I appreciated. .... I'm adding to my review because I was surprised by the response. My appointment was scheduled for 11am, though I later learned the classes started at 10:30am. On our first day, we arrived early to check things out. You told me it was fine to leave the kids for the hour I paid for, and if they enjoyed it, they could stay longer for a fixed daily rate. When I returned an hour later to pick them up, the staff member told me to come back in 30 minutes because they weren't finished. I wish I had -- because when I did go back, I found my kids standing alone in a room. The staff member came out from another room, rushed me to pay (despite my having already paid online), and then charged my card again without proper explanation. To make matters worse, on the way home, my kids told me that the other children had been unkind and that the staff allowed them to be left alone intentionally. This was disappointing and not at all what I was led to expect.

The class started maybe 15 minutes late since there were a few people late. I didn't think it was a big deal, it actually gave us time to eat. The teacher/artist started the class going step by step, she was very nice and accommodating. She provided more paint and paper as needed. The only thing is that we were against the wall in a very tight space. Luckily it wasn't that busy otherwise if anyone wanted to leave their seat it would force everyone else to also leave their seats so one could get out. The artist had no space to come by and check on us and to give some advice/feedback like she was doing for the people sitting in the middle row. All in all we had fun and I would for sure go back.

DIY Body Butter & Karaoke Event…read more I had such a fun and unique time at the DIY Body Butter & Karaoke event! The setup was creative. It was a perfect mix of self-care and dope vibes! Making my own body butter was easier (and way more fun) than I expected. We created our own body butter and had a variety of scents to choose from. The host was amazinggggg! She was very informative, down to earth and really nice. She definitely knows her stuff. The man who hosted karaoke was a total vibe! Once everyone finished their creations, the real fun kicked off (KARAOKE) and the energy completely shifted -- lots of laughs, singing, and good crowd interaction. WE TURNED UP!!!! It was the kind of event that felt both relaxing and lively at the same time. If you're looking for something different to do with friends -- something hands-on, social, and full of personality -- I'd definitely recommend it. They actually have different DIY events like hand soaps and wine making. We will definitely be back sooner than they think.
