My friend got a group of girls together for a pottery class to celebrate her birthday and I am so happy to have discovered Anhinga. I had never taken a pottery class and was so excited to learn the ropes. There are 10 wheels here, so our group of 10 was able to arrive a little early, drink wine and eat some snacks we brought before learning the ropes of ceramics. Victor was our instructor and he was amazing! He first did a demonstration on how to work with the clay and start to make your piece. Then he helped us to create our own pieces. We got to make 3 different things. One item is included in your class price and you can purchase the other 2 for just $8 each. It's a hands on experience but so awesome to learn a new skill and get to be able to take your creation home. I will definitely look into more classes as I truly enjoyed my experience with the class. read more

I signed up a month ago for the Wednesday evening Five Week Pottery Class at their Casa Ferber location; $300 and already bought my apron and tools. The day before my first class, I got a call saying it was canceled due to low enrollment. That's on them, not me. What made it worse? When they called to inform me of the cancellation, they told me the 4% credit card fee was non-refundable and that it was their policy. Except it's not. Their own written refund policy clearly states that if they cancel a class due to low enrollment, they will issue a full refund. They straight up lied to my face. It took my husband calling back and calling them out on it before they finally honored what was written in their own policy. $300 is not cheap, and a business that misrepresents its own refund policy to shortchange customers is not one I can trust or recommend. Really bummed, because I was looking forward to the class and genuinely wanted this to work out. read more

I did a deep dive into pottery classes in Miami, and I'm convinced this one is the best. First of all, you work with real clay and a pottery wheel--unlike many classes where you only hand-sculpt with air-drying clay. Second, they offer two time slots every day of the week, so booking is easy and doesn't require long-term planning. Third, while many classes only let you make your piece and require a separate booking for glazing, here they glaze it for you. And last but not least, the price is super fair compared to other classes that charge $100+. I booked a pottery class as an anniversary gift for my boyfriend. I was a little worried it would be too difficult, but we ended up loving it. The instructions were clear and detailed, and you could ask for the instructor's help at any stage. You get three pieces of clay to work with, and at the end, you choose one to keep (or pay just $8 for an extra piece). After two weeks, we picked up our fired and glazed dishes, and they turned out so adorable--I actually use them in the kitchen! I went to art school many moons ago, and I forgot how creating something ... anything with my HANDS brought me so much JOY! So if you live in South Miami, you probably pass this place every day on your morning commute. The kids actually found Anhinga Clay Studios online and chose this for their Father's Day gift! Our whole family did a class, and our instructor was AMAZING-- it wasn't as easy as he made it look, but we got better at wheel pottery each try. I have to been one other class before this one. I am going to take my third 5 week course next month. This studio is very nice considering it has AC and you don't get bit by mosquitos. Gus is a master at pottery and teaches you different things to make each class. You can choose to make what he is teaching or continue to work on your own. But it is nice to have someone teach so you can get better and have an idea on what to make. I love how you get 2 open studio days to work. Pottery takes time and having 1 class a week to work on things is hard to get better. I didn't get to take advantage of both studio days on my second 5 weeks and I barely made any pieces. Glazing is another story it is very hard. There a pieces I glazed and I hate them. It is definitely trial and error to see what works and what doesn't. I also have seen 1 time classes while working in open studio days. Everyone in the one time classes all come out with some pot. They teach you really well on basics of pottery, so if you are curious on how to make pottery, definitely take a one time class and get muddy! read more

My partner brought me here for a 2hr pottery class. I was excited to try making pottery for the first time. We showed up a bit early and waited a few minutes until the time. It was 5 of us in the class but I think you can have about 7 in total. The 2 hr class is $50 per person which seemed like a good price for the experience. We were given aprons, they were quite stained with both new and old clay stains but it must be part of the charm. The instructor gave some brief instructions on what we would be doing. I did feel some things were not very clear. He was responsive whenever I asked for clarity which was good but I think they could work on the instructions given to beginners. He was still very kind with the class and helpful when we had any questions. We made 3 pieces and could keep one for free and if we wanted more than one it would be $5. I thought that was a fair price. You pick up the pieces 2 weeks after your class. I really enjoyed this pottery experience and recommend it to anyone who is wanting to try their hand at pottery. Came in here for a one-time pottery class with my wife and stepson. It's very near Tropical Park in a warehouse type district. Easy to find. On to the class itself - we spent a good two hours learning the basics. We were a group of six allowed in the studio and it felt safe. The experience was educational, hands on, fun and a little zen. Our instructor was really attentive, knowledgeable and made sure everyone was having a good experience. We ended up molding three different pots out of clay. The machine was fun to operate, as is the shaping process itself. After all was said and done, we pick our favorite of the three we made and decorate it. Within two weeks it will be fired in the kiln and be ready for pickup. I'm looking forward to adding my handmade Koi snack bowl to my collection! All in all a good time and recommended you try at least once. We would all do it again. read more

I loved my one time pottery class! It was really fun to be able to make three different pieces in the span of an hour, seeing my progression with each piece. Noah was a fantastic teacher: attentive, helpful, and kind. It was a difficult thing to learn but he repeatedly reminds you and teaches you the hand movement. This is a wonderful family run studio by 2 elementary school art teachers. They are so dedicated to their mentoring of young students and adults. The children are learning to make all kinds of clay items and they do an amazing job! My grandkids all go there for art classes and camp. They love it. They have leaned so much and my grandson even got accepted into a magnet art school thanks to Gus helping him with his portfolio. We have done birthday parties there and all the kids loved it. I am disappointed with how the owner handled my party on Feb.26th. I reserved the class for my birthday, and we were all very excited to do something different. Gus was really nice on the phone when reserving and we paid upfront for the 2 hour class ($350 then an additional $50 for another person) On the site it asks for 50% deposit but we were happy to give the full amount. Unfortunately, two of my friends got covid right before the class and my grandfather was in the hospital the same day. Half of the party was family so we had to miss out but the ones who could have made it wanted to reschedule the class since I could not attend. Gus was really rude on the phone, especially being a small business and for us being new to his studio should have handled it differently. He asked for the death certificate to prove that my grandfather passed away. What company asks for that and how extremely insensitive for someone who lost a grandparent. we were not asking for a refund but to reschedule the class. Since my friends had that encounter, and Gus said he could not reschedule, they went to the studio. When they got there, the doors were closed and when they called, Gus said they can do the class but "would have to wait however long it took for the teacher to get there" For being a small business, it was the worst way to handle this situation. Yes it was the same day but we can't plan tragedies that happen to us. And again, we were not asking for a refund, but to reschedule. My friend Jessica left a review saying it was my grandmother who was sick but it was my grandfather. My grandmother passed just 3 months prior to my grandfather so for a business asking for a customer's grandfathers "death certificate" is extremely unprofessional. I had given a 5-star review and then went to pick up my three pieces that I made during the 60 minute class. We were told to pick a color and that any additional colors would have an extra $5 cost. Upon arrival to pick up my things, I am informed that they chose only ONE of the pieces (needless to say it wasn't even the best made one) without consulting and just glazed that one. What a rip off, couldn't be more upset. They threw away my art. BY THE WAY they state we were informed of this by the instructor but he didn't say this, or prompt us to choose one. It's funny how the instructor complimented the piece he decided to throw away. This is so disappointing and customer service is zero responsive about this and were even pretending to search for the other pieces. Shame on you. DO NOT GO HERE! read more

Wow. I came here for my aunt's babyshower and I believe this is the first time they host such activity. It turned out great. To start: the owners, a couple, are so patient and passionate about what they do it just can't go wrong. The person actually teaching us about the painting was the guy and he kept his cool with more than 20 women, so so very patient and charismatic. He is just the right person for this. I wish more people new about this place. It gives you a different choice when planning birthdays, baby showers or whatever occasion it might be. Had a great time here for a private birthday party for my nephew on a Saturday afternoon. It was a great way to have quality family time and cultivate our creative side at the same time. Gus was super awesome at instructing our various attention spans. We each created and glaze painted awesome bowls we otherwise would have never been able to do on our own. We will pick them up in a couple weeks after he fires them up in the kiln. The session was about two hours and we were filled with an inner joy you can't replicate anywhere else. Definitely dress down as you will get dirty. Don't wear rings or any jewelry and reconsider long nails. The place is not hard to find and has plenty of parking. It's in the industrial area of Westchester but once inside it's a whole different world. We will be back. read more

Signed up for a single intro class and felt so unfulfilled when leaving it. The instructor really didn't make the effort to connect with the student. Majority of the class was held in silence and occasional instruction on how to do things. I was instructed to certain motions, not really told why or how it can used in different ways and etc. Was told that I'd be called back to paint my pot, that never happened. I didn't bother calling back, it just seemed like they were too busy to deal with anyone. The class was boring? It did make me want to pursue pottery and gain a better understanding of techniques and, but of course not at the same studio. The studio is in a very tucked away warehouse area. Would suggest leaving early and planning in advance if you're attending the night classes. It can be difficult to find the place, especially when the street is very dark and when the studio has insufficient signage. Other than that the place is very clean, people are constantly coming in and out to use it. Only wish I would've had a better experience with the class. read more

Great lesson! Noah our instructor was great with the clay and you can tell he enjoys what he does! He was very helpful and easy to learn from and work with. He was able to help us out if we messed our clay up during a step in order to salvage the end product as much as possible. I've been in the Saturday morning class for several months now and I don't see myself ever stopping. Our classes generally begin with a demonstration as we watch Gus teach the week's lesson. The remainder of the class is spent on the pottery wheel or hand building (if you choose). The instructors support creativity and assist students with their projects whenever questions arise. I had a medical emergency and had to be rushed to the ER the night my fiancé and I were scheduled to go to our first class. He called as soon as he knew I was in bad condition and asked if they could accommodate us for another date. The individual who answered said "no, I'm running a business here" and had no empathy for our situation. Which is sad being that we were extremely excited for this.
