This is my go to quilt shop when I am in La Porte, The employees are extremely helpful and knowledgeable about anything in their shop, once a year they do a massive sale and during that time it gets really busy but worth it year round. I go to many quilt stores and I'm trying to catch up on reviewing them as I go through them, but this place is in my top three. read more

This is one of my favorite quilt shops. every time I head south of Houston I make a point of stopping at the store. The ladies that work in the shop are friendly and knowledgeable about the stock they have in the store. oh my word there's a lot of fabric in the store frankly it's kind of a dangerous place for my pocketbook. read more

The first time I wrote this review, I hadn't been here in quite a while The review is written by my wife who goes here far more often than I like to think about. $$$$$$$$ I went with her today and took pictures -- I'm doing this update, to add pictures, lots of pictures. Every photo shows a different part of this large shop. My wife is a devoted (obsessed?) quilter. She gave me the five star rating and provided this review: If you're a quilter, 'The Pony' carries everything you need. It's the best quilt shop anywhere near Houston and probably the best quilt shop in Texas. [And my wife should know, I think she's been to damn near every quilt shop in Texas] They have the widest selection of fabrics, books, patterns, tools, threads, etc. If you want to learn to quilt or improve your skills, they have an excellent set of quilting teachers. They carry Janome sewing machines and Horn and Roberts tables and cabinets. read more

I live an hour away but the drive is worth it! There is such a variety--from Civil War to children/kids to modern to Fasset to batiks, plus more. If you think it's too far, just take several projects with you to get your drive's worth! Their prices are very comparable and competitive with other quality cotton fabrics. We trusted the reviews we saw and made a stop here on our way from Houston to Galveston and are so glad we did. Their selection was marvelous, Deb was invaluable in helping us figure yardage for a quilt and all the staff was warm and friendly. Things are well-organized and we loved seeing the many samples. I give this shop four star's simply and solely because the selection is phenomenal! Just about any "theme", color or collection. Don't go in this place if you're in a hurry, there is entirely too much AWESOMNESS not look at everything. A HUGE section of Batik, white on white & my Favorite --the vintage prints section. The staff is always lovely and nice the shop is clean and organized nicely. They offer different classes ranging from beginner to advanced. The only CON that I come up with is the high prices. But you are paying for quality and variety. Will shop here again. Don't pass up the clearance room in the back!!! read more

Painted Pony is an AWESOME quilt shop. They have become like family. They are ALWAYS helpful, their advice is very welcomed. I started with a t-shirt class and it led to me taking the beginners quilting class - now 10 years later- I take just about any class they offer, some I've taken twice- I have learned SO much from them- whether in a class or just coming in for help. I have also bought all 3 of my Janome machines from them- Service, quality, friendly, helpful, supportive are just a few words that describe the staff and Painted Pony N Quilts. read more

I have been inside this store multiple times and the staff have been rude every single time. I am a novice quilter and the staff have acted so patronizing towards me anytime I have asked for help before or if I wasn't 100% sure about techniques or terminology. I wouldn't recommend this store for new quilters or anyone looking for advice. read more

This store has the rudest employees I've ever encountered. Have only shopped there about 5 times in the 20 years or so they've been open for this reason. I'm usually happy to drive 15 miles further so as not to deal with them. Here's the latest example: Just went in at 3:45. (They close at 4:00.) The front door was standing open and all three employees were standing around doing nothing. I walked up to an employee and said hello and she said "We're closed". I pointed out that it wasn't 4:00 yet, so she grudgingly sold me the one item I was looking for. I am done with this shop - will never go there again. read more

I came in for the first time during the Row by Row challenge and was extremely impressed. The selection was amazing but the customer service was incredible. We asked about a walking foot that had broken on our machine. They knew exactly what I needed, knew of a similar situation, and contacted Janome on our behalf. They went above and beyond for us and even was able to get us the part compliments of Janome. I will go back to Painted Pony and will recommend them to friends. I can not speak highly enough of their willingness to help their customers. I have a favorite quilt store for life! read more

This shop is amazing. Not only does it have a huge selection, it has a knowledgeable staff. These ladies (and gentleman) give you their all. If they personally haven't used a product, they will direct you to the one who has. It's so helpful to talk with someone who can advise you accurately. Love this shop! read more
