I had actually visited on Good Friday and they were closed. I live in Katy and it was a 30 minute drive. I was upset but kind of my fault because you should always call a new place first before visiting. I pulled up and saw no cars and was surely disappointed. I politely got back in my car and decided I would visit another day. Well the following week I decided to visit because I needed to drop shoes off at the shoe shop. I walked in and felt like I was dreaming. It was such a variety of material it was unreal. I am not a seamstress but I have a creative vein for making a masterpiece. I decided to take my time and walk around and observe, look and allow my creative juices to flow. Then an angel appeared CLAUDIA, she was the sweetest girl ever. She answered all of my questions, offered expertise knowledge and helped me sort through many different options. Of course a creative person never makes choices overnight. So I left the store and told her I would return soon. The following week I returned with more choices and the need to make a final decision. When she seen the masterpiece she was floored. She then proceeded to talk about her mother's 50th birthday. It was funny because I am preparing for my 50th birthday and I was sharing with her that I don't mind sharing information with her as well to make her mother's event a success. What impressed me the most is all of the staff are welcoming to all ages and race along with being bilingual. I am always disgusted when I walk into an establishment and no one speaks ENGLISH which is the first language in HOUSTON. They are all nice and helpful CLAUDIA, stood out to me because she helped me personally. She was absolutely amazing. She gave hands on expertise and was very patient and kind. It was my first time in the store and she made me feel welcome. Her energy and poise were unmatched. I am looking forward to shopping at this establishment again. read more

There also aren't a lot of employees to go to for help or who will come up to you asking if you need help. But I did go on a Saturday, so maybe they were just busy. I stood in line at the register to only be told I'm supposed to wait in line at the cutting area. No employees spoke to me the entire hour I was in this place. Utopia of fabrics! This place keeps me in stitches. This is a store that also exists in San Antonio- it seems to be a lot local and smaller than some of their big box competitors- but these guys are much, much better. The employees all seem to be bilingual. Many of the fabrics are to be used for ethnic uses- certain patterns and cuts of fabric that belong in a dashiki or a quincinera dress. My favorite are the animal skin prints- green crocodile fabric for those pants you've always wanted to learn how to sew so you can make them yourself. The staff here is friendly and helpful- always offering up help in moving or cutting the fabrics. They can answer all of your sewing projects questions. Most of the time, you have to order a minimum of one yard of fabric, but I'll bet that you could sweet talk them into helping if you just needed a scrap. The store is clean and well organized and well lit. If you have a textiles project in mind, this is the place to do it! read more

My new place for custom clothing and alterations !! Found this fabric store via google search when a custom dress from a Miami Boutique was piss poor. I needed huge modifications and alterations which they were very well equipped with the materials I was in need of. They assisted with the changes and assured me the dress will be ready for my Husbands party which was two days away at my time of visit. Very reasonable prices. Staff very friendly and willing to help anyway possible. So glad i found this store and I definitely will be back! read more

This place was awesome! For context, I live in a city where the extent of apparel fabric is limited to JoAnn, Walmart, and Hobby Lobby. The guys working we're super helpful and very attentive. I was worried I would have to buy full yards but they were totally okay cutting 1/4 yards extra. The selection of stretch fabrics was endless. Taffeta and satin in both stretch and plain woven was great and offered in pretty much any color you could desire. The bargain shelves were full of fabrics at $5.99 or less. They had solid cotton broadcloth too. I was a little disappointed in the trim and zipper collections but no biggie. I'll be dropping by this place every time I'm in Houston to restock my fabric stash. read more

I really enjoyed this store ! I went here because my dad needed simple fabric to make a prayer garment from. The store was nicely laid out and had everything labeled, priced and a description. On the wall they had some nicer fabrics that could be turned into endless ideas. They even had Ankara ! Which I was very impressed by. The lady who was working there was very helpful . My dad just had to have variations of white and he lady took her time to show us all types of while variations in different fabric , she even explain why different types of cloths was better then others. They have a clearance rack that goes pretty low. I even had to snag my own piece of fabric because it was on sale and too cute to pass up. I will definitely be back ! read more

What an absolute buffet of fabric. Prices are reasonable. Definitely more variety than a big chain store. Many more prints and options I could have imagined for the tailor or dressmaker. Staff was attentive and friendly. Think about that cousin/tia you have that's helpful but not all in your business. The place was busy and it was nice to be checked in on while I roamed around. I purchased active wear fabric that was on 60 inch rolls so you could see the full print of the fabric. The value section is a mountain of chiffon and challis jumbled together in a tangled heap. I get it, it can be challenging to keep everything on a roll....but then again digging for values is worth it when you strike gold. So worth an hour drive and I would recommend a visit to this store. The selection of apparel fabric was massive. Quilting fabric not to much , but the options they had were plenty and a mix of different styles. Oh and they African fabrics! The store is clean and neatly laid out. The rows are labeled with a description and price. They also have laces, zippers, and other accessories. I came in for something really specific: ivory tulle that's at least 72" wide. I couldn't find this at the Hobby Lobby or Joann's next to me, though those establishments usually have what I'm looking for. I walked around, didn't find it, asked the worker, and she pointed me in the right location. There seemed to be two workers. Therefore, there was a short wait to cut fabric, but they were fairly speedy to cut fabric and ring people up. I had a good experience here. read more

I would give them 0 stars if possible. They had the rule that only 5 people could enter the store at a given time, which was understandable. The group before us had 9 and the owner woman let them in without hesitation, when it was our turn she had us stand outside the door (we had 5 people) and wait for a good 10 mins in the heat. Once we came in we were given the WORST service imaginable. She was so freaking rude. I don't know how they're still in business with that attitude. We all came in wearing appropriate face masks, while her 3 kids ran around without any coverings. She started screaming cause my cousin was adjusting her mask and then started talking to her coworker smack about our family in Spanish (at least wait for us to leave, bro). My brother stepped out to take a call and when he tried to enter again she threw a tantrum that he couldn't re-enter though he was JUST inside the store. After all that mess we still gave them our business (simply because of their fabric selection). If you're going to go, just be ready to deal with that racist woman. read more

So, yeah, I am a confessed fabric hoarder who buys fabrics and then waits until the "right" time to sew it. But other people buy fabrics for specific reasons like weddings, quince, backdrops for photos, proms, churches, weddings, theater and other events. If you are one of those fabric shoppers then you will probably like what you see at Fabrictopia. Polyester and other plastic and non eco-friendlyfabric? Yes! So much scuba and stretch fabric in so many colors - and heavy lace - and enough fabrics to make a sari or drape for a wedding background or theater or make costume or -- well, you get my point. About 6 yards of fabric is needed for a sari and this place has it! Bordered sequin fabrics? No problem - they have a wall of sequined fabracs and laces in a wide range of colors. Cotton? No cotton - just all kinds of man-made super stretch fabrics and heavy lace fabrics. I also quilt so cotton is important to me. A person who only quilts traditional quilts would be disappointed. A person who is an artistic mixed media quilter would enjoy the visit. Location: The location was not easy to find because the gps had difficulty locating it. You cannot see the store from the street because of the angle of the building. The street sign for the store is very tall and difficult to see depending on the street you are on. The staff is not friendly. Not on the day I was there. But that's okay because I was already having a bad day and they did not have to power over me to make it worse. --They were not mean - just not friendly - and super busy - so don't go there expecting them to become your best friend because you spent money there. Quilters usually have a friendlier welcome when visiting quilting stores, and Joann Fabric store staff will talk to you. Not here and don't expect sewing advice -- they just cut the fabric. Prices: The prices are not cheap - but if you are there when they are having a sale you can get a great deal - yeah - one of those "Whoohoo!!!!!" sales like on my first visit to Fabrictopia when they were having an aniversary sale. Yeah - one of those sales where those who sew also know (oooh I rhymed) to buy yards and yards of fabrics. If price is important - call and ask if they are having a sell or check their Facebook page. Environment: Its not JoAnns so don't go expecting lots of lighting, glitz and glamour and lots of staff. Its more like a small warehouse with fabrics on rolls instead of bolts. There is a huge cutting table and usually 2 workers share the table. If you like stretch man-made scuba, polyester, nylon, and intricately detailed heavy lace type fabrics, then Fabrictopia is the place you want to visit first. If you are visiting the Houston area from out of town - yes, stop here. Neighborhood: If you like Indian and Asian food (which I do!) and if you like shopping in a warehouse district (which I do!) -- there are other places to shop in the area. Its not the New York Fashion District, but its great for Texas and maybe someday this district will rival New York as more people from other countries move to Texas and establish sales networks in Asia. People tend to forget that the New York fashion district wasn't always what it is today -- it started out small. I was glad that I took the extra effort to find Fabrictopia. Can't wait to return to visit Houston and Fabrictopia. read more

She was extremely helpful, the store takes excellent precautions to ensure the safety of it's customers and they provided me with excellent service. The silky dress they made for my daughter's pageant was HORRIBLE. The arms were uneven and the dress was warped. Reminded me of the shirt Theo's sister made for him on the Cosby Show. Okay- writing this review is very upsetting. My boyfriend drove 40 min to this place to look for fabric. He spent a good while in the store but noticed that another customer in the store kept staring at him. Yes my boyfriend is black- but he gave her the benefit of the doubt and continued his trip to this store. The same lady who was staring at him, seemed very acquainted with the employees working at the store. When he outside and was in MY car, that same lady started writing down my plates FOR NO REASON. He want inside to ask the employees if they knew her or why she would be doing that, but they didn't care. He felt as if no one cared whether or not he was discriminated against. She was a skinny white lady, short white hair cut driving a red burgundy Lexus sedan wearing white spandex pants.. Whoever works at this store, get your shit together. We will never recommend this store to anymore because WHO KNOWS IF THEYLL BE NEXT TO FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE. read more

On my crazy search for a fabric store , i found this place. I went to high fashion and decided to weigh my options first before buying any fabric. First of all let us talk about high fashio real quick! This place is food bog selection and all but sooooo over priced omg. Even if it is worth the price as they say , their customer service is just horrible you can't get help over there. B bi found Fabrictopia and I'm already a big fan. Carmen is so helpful , OMG !!! I would have been lost picking out fabric for my big 25th birthday without her. Very patient,knows the fabrics and knows what she is talking about. I absolutely love this store. Fabrictopia and Hancock Fabrics are my top 2 places in Houston where I purchase all of my fabric from. Fabrictopia to me is what Walmart is to the rest of the United States. I can't go in Fabrictopia and get one thing before I see a fabric ( more like some fabrics) that I must have. This place has all kinds of fabric at great prices. The Zippers and cone threads come in many colors. These fabrics are mainly apparel fabrics. You will still have to visit Joann's or Hancock Fabrics for other sewing notions that you may need for your sewing projects. The staff is really helpful and friendly.
