We celebrated my young niece's birthday at Painting with a Twist in Dallas and let me just say...we had a blast! The kids were happy, the adults were impressed, and even those of us who weren't painting had fun just being part of the energy. From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond. Dana, Tanishia, and our instructor Eva were warm, attentive, and full of great vibes. They created such a welcoming atmosphere that the whole event felt personal and joyful, even though there were other guests in the studio. We had our own table up front with plenty of space for cake, presents, and all the birthday extras. And the glow-in-the-dark private room? Major hit!!We sang Happy Birthday in there, and the staff even played the birthday song over the speakers...it felt like a mini concert moment for the kids. I cannot recommend this place enough. I went with a friend for a painting class and we both had a blast! You get a blank canvas and some squirts of paint and the beginning of class. We painted a sunset in Tanzania with the help of the instructor who taught us how to mix colors, how to hold the brushes etc. It's your painting to take home so you can personalize as much as you want. They also have private classes if you want something more intimate. I had a great time and would recommend checking it out. It's also BYOB so you can bring snacks and drinks if you like. read more

Overall I had a fantastic experience at this Painting with a Twist location! My instructor was upbeat and encouraging. My only gripe is that in the confirmation email, they tell you to arrive 25 minutes early because and I quote "Late arrivals will miss important class instruction and should not expect individual "catch up" instruction from the instructor or assistant. There will be no extension of class time for late arrivals." So I did just that. I arrived more than half an hour early to allow myself to find parking (parking is tricky in that area) but I was the first one to arrive. Even the instructor wasn't there yet. There was a woman decorating for Halloween who let me in lol and I helped set up the class. Everybody else showed up right when the class was supposed to start and was fine. So a word of advice, there's no need to be early! Also, they say to wear something you don't mind getting paint on but in all honesty, you'll be totally fine if you're a neat person. AWESOME experience here! The denton square atomosphere in general is very viby and perfect for date night! My boyfriend and I passed by PWT a few times and I wanted to give it a try! we both are definitely not artistic people but we came for my birthday. Of course, you can bring any drink you would like. I didn't want to be tipsy and paint so we decided to bring some boba drinks! We saw others bring wine bottles and they do provide small cups so no need to bring the wine glasses/cups You can bring food but you have to eat it before starting the painting the employees there are super fun and spunky! We went to a more difficult class. I believe it was for "Milky Way? or Galaxy?" It looked very challenging but they guide and teach you very well to where you too can make a masterpiece! One of my friends booked her bachelorette party here a few Sunday's ago. There were about 15 of us so we had the place to ourselves. My friends brought in wine, sangria and some snacks. We were there for about an hour before we started painting, and that was the only complaint I had. That was too much down time, we were ready to start! It cost $45, which we had all paid online before we arrived. We were given an apron, a canvas, and all the painting stuff. My friend picked out a tree design that we all did. We had Arnaldo as our teacher, and he was so adorable and spunky. He walked us through each step of the painting, but we were pretty much free to do the painting how we wanted to. My problem was there was too much lag time between steps so I kept re-working my painting, and ended up making it a bigger mess than it should have been. Oh well. The music was too loud, and the instructor Alisha was terrible. Her timing was terrible, she wasted at least an hour on the background and waiting for peoples' paintings to dry. Then she rushed through the rest of the painting, standing directly in front of the easel most of the time, so even the video screen couldn't show what she was doing. Her verbal instructions were horrible, she could see that people were frustrated and made no attempt to go around and individually assist. The person who was helping with the individual assistance was very young, very timid, and not proactive. Extremely frustrating experience. The people I was with had been to this location before and said she was the worst instructor that they've had. read more

We had a wonderful time painting "Do nut panic" today! Katie was our instructor and she did a great job guiding everyone to follow the layout while also encouraging us all to make our own adjustments. The TV elevated in a corner, with a camera pointed on Katie's painting space, made it easy to follow instructions from any seat on the room. I loved the bright atmosphere with paintings everywhere on the walls and big windows along the front of the space letting in lots of natural light. This was a great outing for me and my daughter during school holiday break. We will definitely be back!! read more

I had a great experience here last night. Victoria was the instructor and her energy was great. Her assistant was great as well. They were playing hip hop, R&B and pop music mostly and the other painters were singing along and having a great time. Everyone there was really positive. Definitely a cool date night spot. The instructors are very friendly and entertaining. I'd say that it's something you can do once in a while if you want something different and makes you feel like you can actually creating art. The class was full on a rainy Saturday evening and they have a private room in the back for private parties, which are usually a birthday group. Definitely bring some beverages and snacks of your choice to nosh on while you're painting. They give you time to stretch your legs as the session we had was a 3 hour one. Walking into a studio with pretty paintings all over the walls can be intimidating. However, once you sit down with the instructor and start painting that all seems to fade away. I enjoyed the instructor Dana and her energy as well as her knowledge. I personally have a background in art and was able to follow along with ease, but watching friends who considered themselves not artists follow long just as easily says something. The parking at this venue can be difficult, i was lucky to come on a sunday afternoon with a small class. I cannot imagine trying to find parking when the restaurant next door is in a full dinner hour. Another fun feature is being able to grab a glass of wine and some snacks while painting- not gonna lie, I DID come VERY close to dipping my paint brush in my wine glass-OOPS! I can't believe it took me so long to check out Painting with a Twist. This is such a fun place and a breath of fresh air from my usual scene (parked on a patio with a cold brew and some queso - not that I won't be back in the saddle tonight). We actually bought a $20 groupon for Painting with a Twist in April 2010 (over a year ago), and it had expired. We called in and the manager said it was no problem, they would just discount the painting we chose by $20. Customer service points +1. The studio is BYOB and food, which is great since most classes run either 7-9 or 7-10pm, plus it makes it a fun little night out. Plus if your painting is anything like mine, a glass of wine might help it look a little better! Just kidding, the instructors are great and the paintings turn out SO much better than you would imagine, even if you are a first timer like me. What the wine might actually help with is if you arrogantly venture out to Painting with a Twist against a severe weather warning because "Oh my gosh, stop worrying, It'll be FINE" (sorry group, I won't be so blasé next time!) and then you spend half the class listening to the weather on the radio, neurotically worrying about your car being pelted by golf ball sized hail, and taking a break to move to the back room because the tornado sirens are going off. However, the ladies running our class were fabulous and told us if we did want to leave, they would either hold a make up class or give us a voucher for a free class. Customer service points +2. We roughed it out and ended up finishing on time since the little "break" worked out well with the originally scheduled break to let our base paint dry. We went to the scheduled group class, but you can also arrange private parties (minimum 10 people) for no extra charge other than the painting itself, which you get to pick from their catalog. You can book the studio on an open night or the back room if there is a party in the front. No extra charge? Customer service points +3. I had been to another location before, but this location was so much more fun. We had Victoria and Hannah. Victoria is an excellent teacher. High energy and very engaging. I think the instructor makes a huge difference. She has great taste in music and definitely explained the painting process clearly. I find her humor hilarious, but I can see why some people might take offense. And to those, I say chill out. Drink more alcohol. We're here to have fun!! It's painting with a twist! This location is a little smaller the other PWAT studio I've been to. But great instructors that are super engaging and really fun! Bring your snacks, vino and they will get you set up to go to town with the paintings. They are super fun with the music too, I believe they will let you play whatever you want. They were rocking it with the hip hop/r & b the day we were there. They really take it to the next level with the party type atmosphere. Parking around here is kinda hit or miss but there were a bunch of spots from what it looked like in the back. It's kind of out of my way personally but if you live in the area definitely go, you will have a blast. Bring a big group and have fun with it. read more

Absolutely loved this place and experience! I went last week with a close girlfriend just for fun and I already can't wait to go back! From the very beginning, the women that run it and the artists were incredible to work with. Seriously felt like I was just booking with a friend. We showed up a few min early (as suggested) with a bottle of wine in hand. Give yourself an extra 10-15 min or so to get your smock, find your seat (already set up with supplies) and open your bottle of wine! They provide a corkscrew and plastic cups. The artists were so fun and entertaining and I couldn't believe this unartistic girl (me) walked away with a painting that actually resembled what it was supposed to! They gave great direction while letting your artistic side flair up! Can't wait to go back and maybe even have a private party sometime there! read more

If I think back -- way, way back -- to when I was a kid, I remember that the coolest birthday parties were at this place in town called Paint 'n Party. You got to pick your own ceramic sculpture, paint it however you chose, and then take it home with you. Plus, since everyone was busy painting, you didn't have to worry about being forced to play lame pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey-type games. It was great. And, until recently, I filed this experience under one of those that you enjoy as a kid but can never replicate to the same extent as an adult. I mean, sure, I could hit up Paint 'n Party today, if it still exists, but I'm not eight years old anymore. I have needs and wants that can't be satisfied by sloppin' some paint on a statue of a cat and callin' it a day. And then, BAM, I found out about Painting with a Twist. It's the ultimate combination of the fun I had painting as a kid, plus all that adults love about life: booze. It's BYOB, and most people bring wine, but beer is cool too, and they also have tables set up where you can lay out sweet snack spreads, if you so choose. We brought a big party of about 15 people, and they were really nice about our four bottles of wine, three six-packs of beer, and seemingly endless supply of cheese and crackers. We also brought frozen snacks, not knowing they didn't have a microwave, but apparently they're all buddy-buddy with the liquor store across the street, so we were told we could go over there and use their microwave if we wanted. Also, the painting is far superior to my kid experiences because instead of a ceramic frog, you get to paint a fresh, blank canvas. The artist sits up in front of the "class" with a finished copy of the painting, as well as her own blank canvas, and she goes step-by-step, showing you what to sketch, and then what to paint, how to mix colors, etc. You are provided with the canvas, a little easel, brushes, a pencil, a cup of water, and a palette of acrylic paints with the colors needed for the painting. And, also very cool, their web site has a calendar that shows which paintings will be painted on which days, so you can choose when to go based on that, and you don't have to worry about being surprised with some "old man holding a fish" piece. Now, as for the missing star: It's a bit pricey, usually around $35-$45 for a session. But, you walk away with your painting and a sense of accomplishment, and all supplies are included, so it's not too bad. The only other issue I had with my session was that the instructor seemed to go really, really fast. Now, granted, I'm no artist, AND I was taking in my fair share of red wine, so those could have contributed to my feeling of being rushed. Plus, if you don't finish your painting in the time allotted, they often have times open when you can come back and finish it later, for no extra charge. So, don't worry if you fall behind the instructor. Just relax, take a sip of your wine, grab a cracker or two, and then get back to finishing your masterpiece. read more

Here is how it works: Painting With A Twist (PWAT - almost sounds like a bad word - LOL) requires you make a paid reservation for you or your group in advance via their website or over the phone. You can see which paintings are scheduled in advance by checking out their website. Take your favorite wine and food/snacks. You are paying for the canvas, the paint, use of aprons and painting tools, and instruction. To improve your experience, PWAT provides cork screw wine bottle openers, plastic cups,napkins, and tables. My experience: My gal pal group and I had so much fun here! I organized a Galentine's Day similar to that of Parks and Recreation character Leslie Knope's fictional holiday around Valentine's Day (Because I'm goofy like that :-P). Five of us made our separate reservations online. Make sure at least one of you send an email notifying PWAT of who will be seated next to each other. Your names will be written at your seating spot on the butcher paper spread on the tables. There was a table nearby us where we set up pita bread, pita chips, yogurt dip, hummus, and a chocolate covered marshmallow and chocolate covered oreo bouquet made by muah! We got there a tad early to set up, grab a drink, pour colors that weren't on our paper plates (because none of us wanted to paint a pink peacock), and hang out. We then were instructed to sketch the head/neck/body of the peacock on our canvas - FREE HAND!!! We were all worried as we are not much of artists. We were then walked through the painting by one of the instructors as we sipped and noshed on our treats. It was a bit rushed, but we only had 2 hours to complete our fun work of art. I took pics of everyone intermittently and at the end. We all had good outcomes which we took home! Phew! And I'm proud my Galentine's Day treats were enjoyed by my gal pals. I will definitely go back. The room was filled with about 40 women and 2 men who were there on dates with their ladies. When to go: Go have fun for a girl's night out, a birthday party/other low-key celebrations, or a DATE! Private Party? If you want to make a private party, you need 8-12 people, one credit card, and you get to choose which painting you want to paint! Sounds like a fun birthday get together or shower to me! Price: $30 - for a 2 hour painting session $45 - for a 3 hour painting session Parking: Not the best. I'm not a huge fan of paying to do things I'm not good at...so I was a little leery about going for my first time. I've just never been able to draw let alone paint like I wanted to. The night turned out to be great fun though and I was pleasantly surprised. Danna did a great job teaching the class and making us comfortable. Or maybe that was our drinks kicking in...lol. No seriously the class was great. I'm not Picasso or anything but my painting turned out pretty decent and I got a lot of likes on Facebook and Instagram. There are several places popping up that's like this place. Therefore, I try to shop around, and I find this place to be very expensive. I bought this for my friend's birthday and it was $90 for 2. Kind of expensive. If the experience was worth it, then sure. But the classes consists of too many people. It felt like everyone was so close together, and it's something to do with family, friends and couples so there were so many conversations and I couldn't hear what the instructor was saying. So basically, I paid $90 for the paint, and the canvas, and 2 spots in that crowded room to paint. I'm only sounding bitter because I've been to another place that's cheaper, and better. I would rather use $40 to buy my own paint and canvas. Actually, after this experience, I went to Michael's and spent less than $40 for my own stuff. read more

My friend & I did "paint your pet day"! This was my very first painting class and I have to say it was fantastic! Our instructors Kipp & Cindy were excellent!!! They were Extremely patient with you and continually came around to help the class. When you paint your pet they will go ahead and sketch A picture of your pet from a photograph you submit. You are also given enough brushes paint and an apron. it is BYOB and bring some snacks if you like as well. Very therapeutic I'd recommend it to anyone. read more

I don't have even one artistic bone in my body when it comes to painting but my friend got this for me as a birthday present so we headed over to give it a whirl.
