What a wonderful time with a great teacher, Robert! He made sure we really painted with a twist. The class was very fun and full of energy. Robert made sure that everyone warmed up to each other in addition giving that extra encouragement. Loved the display he had with a bucket of ice and cups, that way your wine can stay cold. It is BYOB, so make sure to bring a little something to sip on. In addition the play list had me jamming! This is now my second time doing this, and I will certainly be back for another round! Great for huge parties too. The peeps out in the other room was GOING HARD IN DA PAINT (lol). The class was so much fun but I have to brag on the customer service! We signed up for a date night and were obsessed with the funky cow we'd be painting, Ms. Maizy Moo. The studio wound up having to cancel the class because we were the only 2 signed up, but Megan had an artist on deck until the last minute just in case we could recruit a few friends to join the class. Our open studio class was a private session and we got to choose our own painting! Since we were the only ones in the class (it was a Tuesday night) she was patient, kept the pace comfortable, and didn't seem to mind that we were over time at the end of the night. She read us perfectly and knew exactly when to offer instruction vs. just observing if we were in the zone. I hadn't painted since art class in elementary school and with her expert guidance the painting came along flawlessly! We can't wait to try it again! read more

I've been doing paint nights & classes for over 10 years now and have never experienced such disappointment in a class at any venue before until tonight.    My friend and I signed up for the Fall Trees Reflected class. Our instructor mentioned at the end of class what a difficult piece this was to paint. Because of its difficulty I'm very surprised the instructor was not more hands on and helpful when it came to directions. Instead my friend and I felt very lost most of the session, as the pace was a bit fast and the guidelines were extremely vague and unclear. We found the entire class to be very stressful, confusing, and impersonal. There was zero instruction on how to paint the tree branches or the type of strokes that we needed to create the trees or the bushes. All the instructor kept saying was "put the color/branch etc. wherever it feels right". As much as I can appreciate that kind of creative freedom, that's not why I paid  $40 for an art class. I paid to be taught specific instructions, details, and techniques that would result in a painting resembling the photo of the sample for the class. The instructor was very talented as her piece had very specific detail that unfortunately we were not taught. Most of her lines that painted the tree branches and reflections in the water were so dainty and thin. I wanted to get the same look in my piece but did not know how with the large brush that we had for the class. I ended up asking for a smaller paintbrush with thinner bristles, hoping to create the same look her painting had and the sample one had that drew me to the class in the first place. She told me they did not offer smaller brushes......at an art studio....   In other classes I've taken before at other PWAT locations or at studios such as The Color Shack, not only are you offered more than 3 brush sizes, but the instructors carefully walk you through every step and do not let you leave the class until you are happy with your painting. At this class however, no one asked if anyone was happy with their paintings or how they could help. It felt like the teacher did not even want to be there.   At other painting classes you are encouraged to bring your own drinks and the venue offers a fridge, cooling buckets, and/or ice to help keep your drinks cool, none of that was offered here. Also, it is pretty standard that a paint studio has a sink in the main room for washing and refills of clean paint water. At PWAT in Richardson, we were asked to go to the restroom and dump our dirty paint water into the toilet and refill with "clean" water from the bathroom sink. Not only is that not standard at any paint studio I've ever been to, it's also unsanitary. read more

We enjoyed her instruction and she helped us when we got stuck. Thanks again. You can also bring food and drinks. They have cups and bottle openers! My friends took my fiance and I here for a surprise and we had the best time! The staff was incredibly friendly right when we walked in. They had drawn our pets perfectly on the canvases we were about to paint so that made it even better. I am NOT a painter by any means so I was definitely nervous about doing this. However, Eva the instructor, did an incredible job with not only me but everyone on how to paint the eyes, fur coat, etc. She walked the room and made sure everyone was okay on help. She didn't make me feel ridiculous for having no clue what I was doing and even helped add some finishing touches on the end. First time ever going to one of these & I'm hooked. It was very easy as we only used two brushes. Secondly, the BYOB was super chill & I loved! The instructor was a chatty box & had a lot of good suggestions but she talked A LOT. I wanted to paint...not talk lol. So we came here for our friends birthday and we picked a holiday painting. It was a ton of fun and our birthday girl had a good time. Our artist who lead us went so fast tho. Our entire group kept asking him to repeat what was going on and his painting wasn't even a good picture and we were following him? If I hadn't taken an art class in high school (which was 20+ years ago mind you) and started just looking at the final picture up on the screen as a template our pictures would not even have remotely looked like the picture that we were supposed to have. All in all we had fun which is why it isn't a one star but the artist just went too fast and wasn't very helpful. At one point I asked him for help and he said "oh just do this" and I told him "no I need you to stay here and show me not just tell me" of which at that point he finally did. It's a fun experience and we had a great time, but the brushes were in bad shape so it made it very frustrating and especially difficult for non-artists like us to make the shapes we needed to make for the Dallas skyline. So, I don't think any of us kept our finished paintings. It was too bad because we had gone specifically for the skyline, but we still enjoyed the experience. We had a wonderful experience here for our daughter's fifth birthday party! Unlike other area studios that limit birthday parties to older kids, Painting With a Twist was incredibly accommodating for this age group. We picked an image for the kids to paint (though as expected, many departed from the theme!) and we were able to bring snacks, cake, and beverages. I bought my granddaughter who was visiting me a ticket to this class. However, when we arrived I was told that since I was a spectator that I was allowed to sit behind her during the class even though I was the one that signed her up and paid for the class. I am on social security and could not afford for both of us to participate as it was $35 per person. I was made to feel very embarrassed and unwelcome and That it was handled very rudely. Even though they conceded that I could stay this time, I did not because I felt so unwelcome. I feel a spectator is someone off the street, not someone related to the participant. I Will never go to this location again. Regardless of my experience, my granddaughter did enjoy the class. read more
