Furthermore, and best of all, it offers several bike lockers which are particularly handy given Helensburgh remains a fairly popular place for a day trip. It is situated bang in the town centre with plenty of nearby eating and drinking options. Perfect. In saying that, it's probably just about true to say Helensburgh Upper is a better option if you're visiting the area for a look around Charles Rennie Mackintosh's Hill House. Personally, I'd choose the extra five minute walk just because I like this station but please don't feel like you have to do likewise.

On August 3, I planned to take the **Yellow Route**, but guess what? **The bus never showed up!** There was **no notice, no warning, no apology**--just complete silence from the company. I stood at the **"Celtic" stadium stop** for **over an hour in scorching heat**, waiting for a bus that never arrived. Eventually, I had to **spend extra money on a taxi** just to get to the city centre. Because of this **shocking lack of service**, I **missed out on key tourist attractions** I had planned to visit. I **flew all the way to the UK**, paid for hotels, and invested time and money into this trip, only to have my plans ruined by this **unreliable company**. Some of the busses got pretty busy and the top floor is half uncovered which was not great while it rained. I was super impressed with the recordings which were clear and very interesting. There were even 2 different recordings in English, one more historical and one music themed. My only wish is that it stopped closer to the botanical gardens. It's a pretty simple, basic train station that smells well.......industrial! (if that makes sense?). It's a bit dull and dreary to be honest but for convenience, I can't help but like it! Not the most attractive looking station (it's no Glasgow Central!) but it's close link to the City centre makes it a winner in my eyes. And the quickest way to get into town (Bridgeton - Argyle Street - Glasgow Central) so I like it. Busier obviously at peak times but nothing too crazy and even at those times, I always manage to get on a train. It's literally 5/6 minutes to Argyle Street and another minute to Central. I can live with that. The station is always clean and I've never noticed any litter. There is a ticket desk (which I've never used) and the staff seem friendly enough. Stairs run down to both platforms which are fairly well maintained and there are a couple of benches (on one platform these are covered over so if the weather is bad, you're sorted!). As this station is located near Celtic Park, when there are football matches on it can get a bit busy. There are always plenty of trains running though so if it is a match day, I advise checking train times and heading out just after kick off when it won't be as crazy and it's always been fine.

With it being done up, and the roadway up to Celtic Park now being well lit, and renovated as well, this would be my choice for heading to Celtic games at home - get the train to here (only 2 stops from Glasgow Central) and walk up, it's about a 10 minute walk... as I found out when we had 9 minutes to get a train after a game and arrived just to see it depart! If this is the standard that Scotrail are going to bring all the stations up to, then I'm all for it. How about Glasgow Central low level next? :D

As we were warmly welcomed at the desk in Glasgow Airport, ushered straight to our car, with impeccable service from Cameron and Josh, we laughed at the people in the Hertz line still waiting as we drove off to the Highlands. Thanks Enterprise, you're as perfect and efficient in Glasgow as everywhere else in the world I've been. Great little Audi A1 too, no complaints here either.

Well it's kind of a mess right now as it's going through some major renovations. From what I've heard is things are being removed and replaced. Hopefully by the next time I've visited, it should be complete. The nice thing about this area, everything is all walking distance from each other. You can start off at a pub, move over to next. Get some shipping done, grab a meal and finish off at another pub. So many good restaurants that's all nearby. Both quick and easy places and sit down dining. Even loads of more upscale bars and restaurants. Just popping into different places and seeing what's there is really great. Major plus, with the train station ending there, it sure brings in loads of people. Daily and especially during the weekend.

Queen Street's city-centre location is convenient as the two stations are geographically not far apart. It's a busy station most parts of the day every day as it's a hub for both routine and getaway travel. It's very close to several businesses and institutions (U of Strathclyde, Glasgow City Offices, etc.) making it a convenient commuting hub. Weekend getaways to the Highlands would begin here as well. The station saw 14 million-plus travelers in 2024, being fiercely taxed by revenge travel from COVID which saw only about 2 million travelers pass through in 2020/2021. I would not be surprised if the station caught up this year to the 16 million-plus travelers it saw in 2019 pre-COVID. It's the third busiest station in Scotland. The station, although it has been in operation almost two centuries since 1842, actually has a very modern, up-to-date feel thanks to recent renovations completed in October, 2021. The attractive facade on George St. is actually quite impressive and the spacious feel of the main terminal is quite nice. The amenities are plentiful enough if you want a coffee or a snack to take on the train (or while you await your train or the passenger you're meeting). The signage is reasonably decent allowing the novice the ability to navigate. We found its usage to get to Balloch and ultimately also to Inverness to be rather easy.

We thought it would be easier to book into the Premier Inn than fight our way out of the carparks or risk a parking ticket by parking at the SECC train station after Billy Connolly's show at the Armadillo. Boy were we right and we decided to come back as we liked the first visit so much. With a free private carpark we could relax and really enjoy our evening. The rooms are really clean, with some great little additions such the media connections (see Photos), the view over the River Clyde is brilliant (Just remember to ask for a "Clyde View" when booking) and friendly, helpful staff. If you've ever stayed at a Premier Inn, you'll know about their really comfy beds, if not then they have really comfy beds with a sleep guarantee (See their website for details). and if you've booked on-line then the self service booking machines are really handy. You need your key card to get into the room and for the lights/power and also the lift, making the place more secure than your average hotel. In the room there are plenty of power sockets, enough for everything from charging laptops, iPads, etc to straighteners, curling tongs or anything else you could need including some power sockets hidden under the bedside tables, which are ideal for charging mobile phones. The ground floor houses a bar area that overlooks the Clyde, with a small but adequate range of drinks and a few meeting rooms which are suitable for small groups or possibly special events. If you've paid for the buffet breakfast it's on the ground floor, with a wide range of options on offer, with staff always on hand for extra items (Vegetarian sausages, poached egg, etc)

It's a tired cliche in Scotland to harp on about the stunning countryside "on our doorstep" that we…read morepay little attention to, but a trip on The West Highland Line proves that even if Scotland is a country filled with bitter, self pitying drunkards, it's an exceptionally good looking one. This rail line is considered amongst the most scenic in the world, and takes you through Loch Lomond, various mountain ranges, past Oban then onto Fort William. The scenery really is beyond belief at some points, with notable money shots being the Loch Lomond section which is viewed from halfway up a mountain (or a big hill, I'm not sure), and towards the end of the line when the train crosses the Glenfinnan Viaduct, a magnet for tourists as it was used in the Harry Potter films. There is one slight downside. Despite the summer months being packed with bumbag wearing tourists, Scotrail use an older, slower, and sometimes quite uncomfortable train for this service. It's either down to bad business sense or deliberate usage of a slower train for lovers of the rugged terrain, but it grates that they don't even bother with the buffet car. It's not too huge a deal though, and shouldn't detract from what's always a jaw dropping journey.
