Visited Palacio Bar after friends' many suggestions. The place is nice, a typical dive bar but comfortable and friendly guests. However, I believe I was scammed. We ordered 1 Michelob Ultra and 1 Modelo Especial. $13 for both. When I questioned the bar keep she said, "yes, $6 for the Michelob and $7 for the Modelo". You tell me, was i scammed? Are these the regular prices for bottled beers there? read more

So great we decided to stop in this friendly, neighborhood bar. We were immediately greeted when we walked in the door. The space is large and full of history. Our welcoming bartender shared some of the stories with us and pointed out the original owners' son, who was sitting at the bar sipping on a cold one. He opened up the ballroom for us to look at. Multiple murals adorn the walls. Drinks are served cold and reasonably priced. Will definitely return. read more

It's back open!!! Go. It's still filled with friendly locals, boisterous bikers and Mesilla tourists. It's got a full bar, a packed parking lot and capable bartenders. There are not a lot of real bars around these parts. Seems like beer & wine is about all you can get around Mesilla. So if you are like me and want a decent drink...here's the place. It's reopened!! I was part of the crowd as soon as I walked in! Gil and Sally are regulars and they were so kind to the "stranger "! The bartenders were so nice and I never felt out of place! "Dive bar" comes to mind in the nicest way. The free popcorn, $2.50 Corona, happy groups of down-home people made us feel perfectly at home here. Live music was just setting up as we were leaving and we will return a bit later another time to enjoy the tunes... read more

Super cool bar! Lot of different rooms to drink, dance, and have private parties. Lots of easy parking(DONT DRINK AND DRIVE!!). Looks like they have different events nightly. Karaoke being one of those nights. read more

Forget my previous 5 star review. I'm replacing it with this one because Palacios has a new boss (not manager). Don't you hate it when new bosses come in and start changing things? Guess new boss has never heard "If it ain't broke don't try to fix it." In my 25+ year experience over several states, hands down, the most popular karaoke bars were the ones where the staff sang also. If it was too busy they didn't sing, but if opportunity presented itself they did and the patrons loved it. I'm especially upset because I am the patron who encouraged this knowing its appeal. Morale was very low last night. Way to go new boss for crushing the good vibes with your new rules. Patrons beware. What other changes are coming? Never mind what the workers and patrons want. I came for a graduation party and the bartender was nice and my Budweiser bottle was $3. The decoration the room for the party was nice and me and others in the room discussed how great it was. The beer was ice cold who could complain about that. I would definitely visit this bar again. read more

Palacio Bar (popularly referred to as Palacio's) is among the best of the dive bars I've been to. It's comfortable, plenty of room and there's often music (corridos, mostly, I think) and dancing on weekends. It's walking distance to Mesilla Plaza and a few restaurants. The crowd that frequents Palacio's is mostly working folks -- not students. Patrons seem to fall in age between 35-ish to 55-60-ish. I've seen a good-sized crowd of bikers there on weekends before. My co-worker says they make a mean michelada. read more

Never in my life have I ever experienced racism to such an extent, especially from one minority group to another. I flew into town for my fiancee's graduation with a Masters from New Mexico State University. While in search of an venue to celebrate with other soon to be graduates, my fiancée, her roommate whom was also graduating with her Ph D, and I had stumbled across Palacio's. my fiancée and I are both of mixed Asian, Hispanic and Spanish ethnicity and her roommate is Asian American; however we did not expect our physical representation of having Asian features/phenotypes to be an issue in 2017. Not long after finding seats did they make it evident that we weren't welcomed. No service was ever offered after several attempts to flag down service. Not long there after as the night progressed I took note of a group of white and Hispanic bikers giving our group some really nefarious looks and mentioned it to the girls, the bikers approached us and let us know that our types weren't welcome here and told us to get lost. With two petite women and myself being confronted by several large bikers, we opted to avoid confrontation and to leave the venue. As we exited, the girls were walking ahead of me discussing the blatant racial event with shock and fear, that had just occurred. At that time, the bouncer, a large male yelled at the girls that, "Your kind are not welcomed here! You stupid bi*ches. Fu*king chinks! Get the hell out!" I definitely wouldn't recommend the venue to any of the students in town for school nor anyone traveling through town in search for a local spot. It's also a shame that minorities are pitted against each other in such a political time when being more inclusive would be of great benefit for all, truly saddening and disappointing to experience. read more

We're visiting the area, have been to the three bars in Mesilla, and this was our favorite by far. Comfortable, great jukebox, friendly bartenders, excellent beer choices, and the place is really well-kept. It's also deceivingly large inside (3 separate rooms). Highly recommended. read more
