This is such a slept on restaurant in Santa Barbara! I used to come here at least 2x a month in college and recently went back. Staff are always very nice, quick, and efficient. I get the palapa burrito with carnitas and make it supreme. It's really large and usually can get leftovers! There's something about their rice that makes it better than any other rice I've had. Anyways, this is a must try for casual dinner!

Mexican place on State Street. Basic design and next to Hyatt on State Street. We ordered carne asada tacos, chips and dip and a Palapa burrito with steak. The food was delicious and tasted great!! They have green and red salsa that are very good also. The food tastes authentic Mexican. We got a large salsa between us two And it was more than enough. The service was good and to the point. All was good here.

Palapa is a favorite stop when we're in Santa Barbara. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Conveniently located as an extra bonus, and the mountain views are gorgeous.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We usually dined outdoors though when weather is unfavorable, we enjoy the decorations indoors.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Love the salsa and theyre good at keeping it coming. The staff is always friendly and we even enjoy a few inside jokes. Haven't had a dish I disliked yet. The chile verde palapa burrito is my go-to & never disappoints. And when youre in the mood for an ice cream finish, you'll definitely smile. Drop in and enjoy this spot. You won't regret it.

Good service, friendly staff. Food was good. Beans were pretty good, even my grandma liked them (she's Mexican and makes her own beans and will judge others) Rice wasn't to my liking but not bad. Good portions! Enchilada sauce was decent. I would go back and try other things on the menu.

Decided to check this spot out since we were staying at the Hyatt next door. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Everything about this restaurant seems pretty authentic from the decor and the food.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered carne asada tacos, steak burrito, and chips and salsas. Portions are generous and the red salsa was spicy. The meal took a while, but worth it as it tasted very fresh. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Seems to be a pretty popular place. Lots of patrons.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Food is delicious!

The service was wonderful, but the food left something to be desired. It was very simple with not a lot of taste and the rice was dry. The chicken enchiladas were cooked perfectly though. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place was clean and welcoming.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Tasty food and great service. I've been here multiple times with family and each time the food is 10/10 delicious! We typically order the parillada, which is perfect because it has a little bit of everything. You can choose from an all seafood, all meats, or mixed parillada and between a smaller one (enough for 2-3 people) or bigger one (enough for 4-6 people). I recommend the mixed parillada. You can also substitute items based on your preferences which is nice. Along with amazing food, the staff is super friendly and are consistently checking in on you. The restaurant is also very nice. There is plently of indoor and outdoor space with colorful decor. The one thing i'm not crazy about here is their drinks. I've tried both non alcoholic and alcoholic drinks such as their horchata, winerita, sunset and michelada and was not impressed.

Was passing through Santa Barbara and stumbled upon this authentic Mexican restaurant. The food was delicious and filling. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I loved how the patio was filled with chatter and laughter.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was also an option to sit indoors which was much more quiet even with lively music.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Both dishes were perfectly marinated in lemon and salt and bursting with flavor. The agua chilles are spicy but addicting. If you love ceviche I highly suggest you try both dishes. Total price $55. Including two drinks (agua Frescas are extremely concentrated and sweet! I took the drink home and I made a big pitcher)

We came back! It was delicious again. I split the Palapa burrito with my dad this time. We got it smothered in green sauce. It was delicious (we got it with el pastor meat [pork]) and the staff kindly cut it for us and served it on two plates. The only downside is that they don't have a changing table in the bathroom for babies/small children. So just be prepared for that if you bring little kids! But a very family-friendly restaurant otherwise!

Two item combo with shredded crispy taco, cheese enchilada, rice and beans.

Los Agaves On De Lavina St. -- A Rare Review from Someone Who Hates Writing Reviews…read moreI spent 25 years owning a business. I know what good service looks like, and I know what entitled looks like. I never write reviews -- I watched Yelp destroy good people over bad nights, and I swore I'd stay out of it. Tonight changed that. I sat at the bar. It took the bartender over five minutes to acknowledge I existed. Another five to ten to deliver a Coke. I ordered dinner and waited forty minutes -- which I might have forgiven, except getting his attention was nearly impossible the entire night. No eye contact. Body language that made clear I was an inconvenience, not a guest. Every interaction felt like I was interrupting something more important. When I finally got him to check on my order, he went to the computer and discovered he'd never placed it. I walked out. I noticed the people around me weren't faring much better. The slowness wasn't just my experience -- it was the room. Los Agaves appears to be a popular place, and maybe on another night with another bartender it earns that reputation. But entitlement has a way of spreading when nobody checks it. I hope management is paying attention -- because a beautiful restaurant dies one invisible guest at a time.

The space smelled delicious and the girl taking my order was very nice and patient while I figured out what to get. I ended up getting a carne asada taco and a grilled fish taco. I also got their pomegranate mint drink. They have two rooms. We stayed in the one by the entrance where we ordered as the other room has a step down instead of a ramp. My child was sleeping in his stroller so logistically it made it easier to just stay in the first space. When I first got the items I staired at my Carne asada in confusion as it was just a sad pile of dry looking meat next to a very beautiful fish taco. My tired self didn't see the generous salsa bar filled with wonderful toppings. Alas it was like putting lipstick on a pig, as the meat almost was at jerky level. The fish taco while it looked amazing and the fish was fresh tasting, lacked the flavor explosion I was expecting. I appreciated the taste of the drink I got however it ran a bit sweet for my taste. Overall in an area with an amazing food scene it fell short for me, but at least filled me up.

We came here on a whim and everything about it was so enjoyable!…read more The service was good. Until we got seated, the service felt lukewarm, but our server, Joquin(?) made us feel so welcome! He gave us some great advice on what to order and we enjoyed every bit of it! There was also another gentleman that brought out the umbrella for us since it was getting sunny. We had a couple workers walk by without asking, but he was so kind enough to make us comfortable. The drinks we ordered were so refreshing. We ordered the Costa Blanca, De Aqui, and the Bengala de Granada. The drinks were so crisp that it almost felt like a palette cleanser. The yellowtail crudo was perfectly balanced between sweet and citrusy. The oysters looked spicy but were pleasantly mild! The octopus was tender and soft. The paella was flavorful and nicely garlicky. Loquita is small and cute. It's a little packed inside once it gets busy, so it was a relief we got seated outside.

We were seated at the bar style seating where you get to see the kitchen, which I actually prefer since you get to see everyone work. // DRINKS // Ooo Mami: lalo tequila, mezcal, lemon, passionfruit, agave, orange bitters, umami. A little on the sweeter side, but pretty well balanced and fruit forward. 4/5 // FOOD // Patatas Bravas: yukon gold potatoes, pimentón emulsion, brava sauce, garlic aioli. This appetizer didn't stand out. It's your typical patatas bravas, but it wasn't as flavorful as I've had elsewhere. 3/5 Ensalada Invierno: roasted kale, baby beets, marcona almonds, orange supreme, coca bread, manchego foam. Very smoky! I was surprised how much the kale took on the smoke of the grill, but it was very different. 2/5 Mariscos: bomba rice, manila clams, jumbo prawns, grilled squid, squid ink, green peas, garlic aioli. The star of the show and absolutely delicious. It was so flavorful and the grilled squid was so tender and melt in your mouth delicious. 5/5 Overall, even though the starters were a miss for me, I would definitely come back for the paella and drinks again, and also to try a few of the other dishes.
