Well, that was just amazing! In the area for the weekend and our friends suggested we try this spot. We were two families, both with kids, and the restaurant was more than accommodating. We found this Mexican restaurant while walking around in Santa Barbara and decided to try it. We're so glad we did! The food was absolutely delicious and the service was top notch! Tried the asada taco and tinga chicken taco and both were amazing and the meat was so tender and flavorful. The Huevos rancheros was also outstanding. Amazing food! We had a great experience at Corazon Cocina earlier and we heard this place had the same chef so we decided to stop in for dinner. We were greeted by Janet right away. She was very welcoming and made sure we had what we needed throughout our visit. I had the Rajas con Crema, a taco with poblano, corn, crema, and queso fresco on a blue corn tortilla. I didn't know exactly what to expect but it was EPIC! Maybe the best thing I've tasted so far this year, so much flavor, such fresh ingredients! My husband ordered the Birria Plate, which he loved. We finally got around to trying this spot, and it definitely lived up to the hype. I ordered the chicken mole enchiladas along with a passion fruit margarita. I expected more of a sweet, but it had a nice, subtle kick of spice which was great. The margarita was strong in the best way and they were very generous with the pour (no complaints here!). Amazing food in a fresh and spacious space, my wife and I came here before a show. Ordering is at the counter, take a number, they bring it to you. Space is large, industrial concrete and steel with high ceilings, but somehow warm and cozy at the same time. They have a many creative tacos, flautas, enchiladas and mole dishes that appear more "authentic" and not your everyday Mexican, as well as beer and cocktails. We ordered a bowl of guacamole, chicken mole enchiladas, enchiladas rancheras, sparkling water and a margarita, then sat down with our number. The guacamole and particularly the chips were incredible, tasting hot and freshly made, but in a smallish bowl. Margarita was very good too. Both our main dishes presented well, were loaded with flavor and top notch, with the mole being spot-on sweet and spicy with very nicely prepared beans and rice sides. To finish the guacamole, additional chips at $4 were needed. Counter service and food delivery times was good. This is probably the best Mexican food I've had in Santa Barbara, a big statement! My only (1/2 star) nit is for the price and quality of food and cocktail offerings, I feel the restaurant (and me) deserve more a finer dining, full table service experience. read more

I genuinely wanted to love this place. After reviewing the menu and photos online, my girlfriend and I made it a priority stop during our visit to Santa Barbara. She is of Mexican heritage and immediately recognized dishes that felt authentic and representative of her family's region. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations. We went for breakfast, and one of the main reasons we chose this restaurant was to try the café de olla. My girlfriend had talked it up as incredible traditional Mexican coffee that I had to experience. We were told they were out of it. That set the tone early, especially when it was one of the items that drew us in. The setup is counter service. You wait in line, place your order, receive a lotería card, then find your own table. Food is brought out when ready, but there is no follow up once it hits the table. There was confusion while ordering. My girlfriend initially ordered chicken enchiladas with green sauce and was told they were unavailable. She switched to shrimp enchiladas with red sauce, and also ordered tacos al gobernador and a margarita. I ordered the birria plate and a Mexican Coke. The total already felt steep for what we ordered. While waiting for drinks, I went to get water and was told it was in a metal pitcher by the wall. There were no cups. When I asked for cups, I was directed to the back of the ordering line. It took roughly 15 minutes just to get two glasses of water. The salsa bar was also poorly maintained. Several salsas were empty and never refilled while we were there. I asked for small dishes so we could at least use what was available and was told they would bring some out, but they never did. When the food arrived, they brought both enchilada plates, including the one they had said was unavailable. We had been charged for both. My girlfriend ended up with three full dishes plus my plate. It felt disorganized and poorly managed. Her margarita was a 2 out of 5 and the weakest one we had during the trip. My birria was decent but not memorable. It tasted similar to what I can get from a taco truck back home. A serious concern for me was that the birria plate included avocado even though it was not listed in the description. I am highly allergic to avocado. If it had been disclosed, I would have asked for it to be removed. Including a common allergen without listing it on the menu is a significant oversight. To finish, we asked three times for a to go box and never received one. Eventually, we gave up and left. The menu and photos look fantastic. The food itself was acceptable. But between running out of featured items, confusion at ordering, lack of restocking, allergy issues, and overall disorganization, the experience was frustrating from start to finish. Based on this visit, I cannot recommend it. Santa Barbara has better options for Mexican food that likely deliver a smoother and more attentive experience. read more

The space is not too crowded but not too open. When you walk in you can either seat yourself or depending on how busy they are they will seat you. Great spot up in Santa Barbara, I have been numerous times and I often recommend it to friends and family. My number one order is always the Flautas Sautarios (short rib flautas) and I'll usually get some guacamole and rice or beans to go with them. They are so flavorful and tender on the inside and nice and crispy on the outside, you really can't go wrong! If you have a sweet tooth I would also recommend finishing your meal with the Strawberry Tres Leches or the Dulce de Leche Flan, which I took with me to-go on this occasion. The staff is always friendly and the food comes out of the kitchen at a great pace whether you're dining in or placing an order to go. The interior is airy with high ceilings and well lit, with nice big windows. There is plenty of seating inside with two different rooms to accommodate plenty of diners, and a small bar as well. There aren't currently any outdoor seating options, and parking options can be tricky, but I wouldn't let that deter you from giving this restaurant a try! read more

Walked in this am just before 11. They sat my party of 10 pretty quick. This was our first time in and it won't be our last. Only negative thing was that once sat no one came by for our drink order for quite sometime. The food was outstanding. Some reviews mentioned that the berry French toast was soggy which it can be because it's served with ice cream. It was sweet and really good. My vegetable omelet was filled with mushrooms, onions, and spinach. I added their green salsa. The decor is lovely, nice staff, and delicious food. Came here for breakfast at around noon on Sunday with a group of 6. I really wanted to like this place and it has a lot of potential, the breakfast just didn't cut it. Started with the mocha latte which was one of the best coffee drinks I ever had. I ordered the breakfast burrito and I would not recommend it. There was way too much cheese and the meat did not have too much flavor. It also barely had any sauce to balance out the burrito. Also service was incredibly slow and we went most of the meal without any water. I even tried to get up to fill the water myself but I was not allowed to. If you're looking for a restaurant that is spacious, inviting and family friendly; then come here. They also offer takeout and online ordering. It tends to be busier on the weekends, so just be aware of that. On my recent visit, I tried the pozole. It was perfectly made and full of delicious flavors. Also served with all the toppings that go along with this comforting soup. I love pozole and this one did not disappoint! The small size was more than enough and I even had leftovers to take home. I also ordered the Mercadito de Champinones aka fried mushroom quesadilla. It was cheesy good. Also, The guac was fresh and perfectly seasoned. Well worth the splurge! My son tried the enchiladas todos santos; which is stuffed with poached shrimp, cheese and topped with a creamy poblano sauce. He thoroughly enjoyed. I've also tried their special of the day. The server Alejandro was very friendly and accommodating. I ordered pozole and ended up sharing with my kids. He offered to bring some extra bowls. The small was rather a pretty large bowl. It was the perfect amount of flavor and spice. My son's burrito was perfect for him. Good amount for a child's meal. The only thing we were disappointed with was the chicken quesadilla. It was on a blue taco tortilla. For the price it was very small, no sides included, hardly a meal. The description didn't mention anything about the nopales on it, but it came out with that and my husband had to ick it off. He only wanted the meat and cheese. They would have remade it, but we went ahead and kept it. The decor had some great art. It's a smaller restaurant and for sure on a busy night it would be crowded.
