My husband and I were visiting Santa Barbara for the first time and celebrating a special occasion, so I made a reservation here for a special dinner- and I'm so glad I did! We had such a wonderful experience from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. Our waiter was attentive and checked in on us regularly while still giving us plenty of space to enjoy our food and conversation. We sat outside, which I highly recommend if the weather is nice. Even though the restaurant was busy, the atmosphere felt intimate and romantic. We ordered two tapas, two cocktails, and the paella, and we were completely stuffed! We ended up taking quite a bit of the paella home, and thankfully, it was just as delicious reheated the next day. We actually wanted to come back again the following night, but decided to save it for another special celebration when we visit Santa Barbara again. One of the sweetest touches was that they gave us a postcard with a handwritten message- it was such a thoughtful little detail that made the experience feel even more special. Definitely recommend for a date night, but I could also see this being such a fun spot to experience with a group of friends. We'll absolutely be back next time we're in Santa Barbara! read more

I normally don't write reviews, but I'm so disappointed - I hope the managers and current owners of the restaurant see this. I came here in 2021 on a day trip. I ordered the prawns, patatas bravas and salad. It was so delicious my wife and I have been talking about it for 5 years. Today I came back and ordered the prawns again, only to find a subpar replacement. Broth was so diluted, extremely spicy and somehow lacking flavor -- needed way more acidity and salt. Understanding you all have to update your menu, it was sad to find the replacements were completely lacking. I hope you bring back the rich, flavorful prawns with thick tomato sauce. Truly was exquisite. To add to this, everything else we tried was also terrible. The ahi tuna crudo was sliced extremely thick and also lacked flavor. After a very disappointing meal the day before, I knew EXACTLY where I needed to go to redeem my experience and I was absolutely blown away by Loquita. Every single dish was an absolute banger. The flavors, the textures, the ambience, and every single part was crafted so carefully. The pulpo was so tender it had me smacking the table and everyone around needed to order it bc "they'll have what he's having!". The paella was the gift that kept on giving and I was like a coal miner after his shift the way I left absolutely no grain of rice untouched by the end. The fish complete with ikura and citrus on top had every combination of refreshing but nourishing and delicious--I was absolutely spellbound. Finally, we enjoyed the creme brûlée and I wanted to cry. If you've never been to Spain and want to experience the closest thing to it without leaving Santa Barbara, then you NEED to add Loquita to your list! I've been to Loquita for a few events now and the ambiance, food and hospitality is always a 10/10. They know how to throw a great party, so while you'd be lucky to dine at their restaurant, it's even better if you can make one of their annual celebrations like we did for their Old Spanish Days Fiesta. The sangria never stopped flowing, endless tapas paraded themselves around the patio, paella was being served up, and the whole afternoon was filled with authentic flamenco inspired dance performances that made you feel like you had been transported straight to Spain. Between the music, dancing, food, drinks and the absolute energy of everyone there, this was easily one of those events where you look around and think, "Okayyy, THIS is how you do a summer fiesta!" Some of my favorite bites of the day here were their paella, octopus and mushrooms croquets. Absolutely amazing and every bite had so much flavor. Their house made sangrias were also so refreshing and tasty. We were seated at the beautiful back patio but it was a bit too hot & sunny for me. The patio was very cozy and relaxing though. We started off with sparkling water and pitcher of sangria to cool down on a hot day. For food we had beef carpaccio, broccolini, octopus, tortilla espanola (Spanish omelet) and whole branzino. Highly recommend reservations for any day. The crudo dish was great. Sauce and presentation was excellent. Cons: The fusion styled sauce and misc ingredients added to the beef carpaccio dish was over the top. Keep it simple. The Pulpo dish did not have a sufficient portion of octopus. Only two and half small pieces for $29. Ridiculous. Bar/cocktail service was an extremely long wait. All nearby tables also waited an extremely long time for drinks. My boss and fellow foodie listed Loquita as one of his recommendations and I've been meaning to try it. I only go to Santa Barbara once a year for Fiesta and I finally was able to try them. Everything I ate was delicious! I started out with the Bengala de Granada, which was a mocktail of pentire coastal spritz, pomegranate, ginger, lime, cinnamon, and clove. It was so refreshing on a hot Fiesta day. Under the Bocaditos menu, we ordered the denia (confit tomato, cured bluefin tuna) and the croquetas de seta (porcini and truffle with a saffron aioli). The denia set the tone for dinner with the bright acidity of the tomato with the salty tuna. The croquetas were rich of umami flavor with an undertone of truffle that paired well with the brightness of the saffron. Under the charcuterie menu, we got the jamón tasting that included pan con tomate. The tomatoes were bright and paired well with the different salty hams, which were serrano, ibérico, and iberico chorizo. For the tapas, we got the tortilla española, patatas bravas, broccolini, and the ensalada mediterránea. It was a good balance of light and heavy dishes. The broccolini and salad were the light dishes. The broccolini was nicely seared and the romesco sauce added a nutty flavor. The Mediterranean salad was herbaceous with pops of richness from the manchego cheese. The rest were on the heavier side. Though, the eggs of the tortilla española were incredibly fluffy. It was like biting into a cloud. The potatoes were also soft. It was a comforting dish. And then there were the patatas bravas, my favorite tapa! They were slightly crisp with a bit of heat from their house sauce and garlic aioli. Each bite was as satisfying as the next. And then the star of the show came right when we finished most of the tapas - the chorizo and chicken paella. The rice was pressed against the pan so every bite had that prized soccarat. The char of the soccarat harmonized with the depthness of the tomato and other aromatics in the rice. It was luxurious. And the chicken was juicy and had a wonderful smoky flavor. The portions of chicken, chorizo, and mushrooms were generous! It can definitely feed a family of six, so we were able to have leftovers as we were a family of three. And it was even better the next day! No matter how full we are, we always have dessert to share. We ordered the crema catalana, and it was the perfect way to end the meal. It was silky smooth and the caramel flavor went so well with the sweet and slightly tart Santa Barbara strawberries. I imagine this restaurant is always busy, but it was even more so during Fiesta. It's loud inside and out, but it's adds to the festive vibes. Service was excellent! I very much appreciated that our waiter confirmed our allergies. He even put the romesco sauce on the side just in case since it had almonds. Luckily, my nut allergy is contained to only pine nuts because I enjoyed the sauce very much. I recommend eating outside to enjoy their patio space. Since they only open for dinner, the heat isn't as bad since it gets cooler around the time they open. Loquita is at the start of the Funk Zone. So parking is extremely limited. Best to walk or ride-share there. I don't think I can wait for the next Fiesta to dine here again. I hope to be back sooner. read more

If I didn't love food enough, this place has made me fall in love all over again! Omg from the drinks to the service to the food. Chefs kiss! First off shout out to our bartender Claudia! She was putting in WORK! And she did such an amazing job with our drinks. I ordered the Costa Blanca and it was sooo refreshing and delicious, I had to have 2! My friend and I didn't have reservations but we got lucky sitting at the bar because we got there at 6 and there wasn't any available seating until 9pm. But I am so happy we didn't go elsewhere! Next up the FOOOOODDD! My friend and I decided to just order apps unfortunately and we ordered the Mejillones (hope ranch mussels) and LET. ME. TELL. YOU....ive never tasted smoked bread sooo good paired with the red sauce and mussels! It was like an explosion of flavors in my mouth. And I am so sad I can't have this everyday!! Another winner was the Pulpo (Spanish octopus)! The pulpo was sooo tender and paired soo well with the puree. I have to say that I NEEED to come back to taste more of their menu because it was soo good. The restaurant itself felt very intimate and inviting. I've been craving Loquita for some time now, especially after seen posts online all Summer. I finally came in for a sibling dinner and my whole experience was amazing! We had drinks at the bar, the bartenders Emilio, Alex, and Claudia were nice to chat with. They were very friendly and attentive. The hosts were great, friendly and welcoming. We were seated immediately and Andrea the server was super nice. We felt seen, taken care of and overall we received excellent service. For appetizers we ordered El Bulli followed by the Pan con Tomate which was a perfect start. Afterwards we had the Broccolini (so savory), Yellowtail Crudo and the Ahi crudo. Everything was coursed out perfectly. The Borrego a la Brasa was the star of the show! To end the amazing dinner we ordered the Churros and wow, a very generous portion. Loquita was incredible for dinner! I'd made a reservation well in advance, and they were able to seat us a little early when we arrived. The interior had a romantic ambiance, with dim lighting and a projector playing black and white flamenco videos on the wall. I got a glass of Tempranillo, which was fantastic. We placed our order for the Paella Mariscos right away (since the Paella takes extra time to prepare) and started with the Crudo and Piquillos Ahumados tapas. Both of these were amazing! The Crudo was so fresh and flavorful in a fun, fruity way. I normally don't love peppers, but the Piquillos Ahumados almost tasted more like tomatoes. They were a little sweet and paired so well with the creamy goat cheese. We didn't wait much longer for our Paella Mariscos, which was some of the best I've had. I loved the crispy under-layer of rice and all the seafood was perfectly prepared. We couldn't resist ordering dessert, and opted for the Meli Mato. This creamy goat-milk custard was delicate and not too sweet, nicely complimented by the candied hazelnuts. Service was attentive and seamless! For a Michelin star restaurant, I honestly expected a bit more. I knew going in that it was tapas, so that part wasn't a surprise, but the food just didn't wow me. I know others love it, but it wasn't phenomenal to me. Vegetarian options were pretty limited, and even when there were options, they were very specific. For example, the peppers are stuffed with goat cheese, which I don't eat, and there wasn't much flexibility to swap or adjust dishes. That made it hard to find things that actually worked for me, and I ended up leaving hungry, which is not something I expected here. I'm sure this place has its audience and I can see why some people really appreciate it, but it just wasn't for me and didn't feel worth it. Excellent higher-end Tapas restaurant well worth a visit. Be warned, the serving size is significantly more generous than you would expect from tapas. We over ordered by 2-3 dishes and if you aren't starving I'd say 2 appetizers and 2 tapas is more than enough for any two people. Cocktails were great, service was highly attentive and considerate. As a Patatas Bravas enthusiast these were perfect, the sauce was more pepper forward than most which was a great touch. Jamon was delicious, but the bravas would have been great on their own. The croquettes with mushrooms were rich and filling, packing a whole lot of deliciousness into a small bite sized package. The prawns were lovely as well, but the Bravas stole the show. This is a busy Spanish tapas restaurant in the south State St area. We had a party of six which made for a great arena for trying lots of different bites. We ordered several tapas and two paellas. My favorite tapas were the croquetas de jamon and the lamb chops. No gaminess that can occur with lamb. Super flavorful. Great grilled flavor. The chops though were super small...like from a very young/small lamb. Both paellas (chorizo and chicken and beef) were super flavorful. Howethe rice bottom was not crispy and crunchy, which is the sign of a well made paella. Dessert was sharing an order of churros and the flan. The crunchy churros had 3 dipping sauces, which was nice to have flavors beyond the usual chocolate. The vibe of the restaurant is energetic and fun. The open kitchen is a home run. I loved the environment. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. However, she was stretched too thin so we ended up pouring our own wine and water, and had to wave her down when we wanted to order another dish and/or dessert. The prawns were cooked perfectly, and they came with a couple of crusty pieces of bread that were ideal for soaking up the delicious sauce. Despite how much I enjoyed it, the portion was small, and I didn't feel full afterward. I paired my meal with two small glasses of wine, which were also overpriced, though the wines themselves were excellent. I appreciated the opportunity to sample a few varieties before making my selection. The service was outstanding. My waiter was attentive and brought both my food and drinks promptly, so I never had to wait long. Overall, while the food and service were very good, I believe I could find similar dishes elsewhere at a better value. I'm also not particularly fond of the location. He knew what cocktail I wanted just from bringing up one ingredient I saw in it while browsing the menu before our visit. He really knew his stuff! I love Spanish food, and this place did not disappoint! That's saying a lot coming from me because we have family who live in Spain, and have visited many times, so we are very familiar with their delicacy. Loquita has indoor and outdoor seating. Great ambiance in both areas! What's cool about the inside dining area is it's an open kitchen, so you can watch the chefs cook! We had a reservation, but arrived early so sat at the bar and had a drink before being seated. We got the Costa Blanca, which wasn't only beautiful but really good. Very light and refreshing. Not sweet, which I love. I hate sweet cocktails. We chose to sit outside and it was beautiful. It was dark, candles lit everywhere, and heating lamps on. We were very comfortable and relaxed. Our waiter was adorable. Even though we had a sense of what we wanted to order, we still asked him what he recommended and he literally walked us through each course and provided us with a detailed explanation as to why he chose that as his recommendation. We ended up ordering a bottle of wine, spanish tortilla, jumbo prawns, beef cheeks and seafood paella with squid ink! It was just me and my husband and we ate it all. We even asked for extra bread for the leftover broth from the jumbo prawns lol. It was our birthday, and they surprised us with birthday desert (cheesecake). We were too full to eat it there so we took it home with us and ate it in bed later that night hehe. We wanted to do at least one nice dinner while in Santa Barbara for my friend's birthday getaway. We were able to score a reservation to Loquita the night before. There is a parking structure that gives you free 75 minutes parking across the train track. Very walkable. There are other parking area suggested by the restaurant. Loquita is a Spanish tapas bar. They are known for their Paella. We started the night with a couple of items. The service was great and everyone was super friendly. Crudo - my friends love this dish. She really enjoy the sauce and ended up dipping everything in it. Broccolini - I love this dish. It was a great veggie dish. I enjoyed the charred broccolini, crumbs, and the red sauce. Patatas Bravas - I love potatoes and I really love this dish too. The potatoes came out nice and hot. The texture of the potatoes were wonderful. Crispy on the outside and fluffy in the inside. Chuleton - prime beef with mushroom. The prime beef was perfectly tender and o so good. My favorite of the night. Mariscos Paella - 45 minutes to prepare but it came out right when we finished the other dishes. The rice was cooked well. I thought it was more on the salty side but still very good. I love the green peas in this dish. I love all the flavors use in all their dishes. I love that there are sauces and added texture in each dish. The chef upgraded a typical ingredients and made it so much better. Presentation on the dishes were also very pretty. Potatoes - crispy and excellently seasoned Carpaccio - flavors were good, but I didn't enjoy the texture. It's like they slightly cooked it. Also, the slices were also thicker than how I enjoy carpaccio Octopus - super tender and solid complements in terms of puree & veggies Duck breast paella - the best part of about this is that it had socarrat. Our server Sammy was super attentive and super helpful with his recommendations. The outdoor dining area was so cute, despite the colder weather the heat lamps and the cute lights kept the atmosphere warm and romantic.
