Well, I have to say... since I last wrote a review, a lot has changed. First, the sandwiches are the size of a pea. Okay, that's an exaggeration, I know... but it gets the point across. I went there on a Thursday evening recently, ordered a meat shawarma with tabbouli, hummus, and beets to go... and thankfully I took a bite before leaving the parking lot. There were beets (almost nothing else), and it was cold. I don't get it. When they remade it, sure, there was meat... but there were no beets. Kinda funny, but kinda not. For the price and the quality, I cannot see myself returning anymore. When I do carry out, you stand there for a long time lingering... the packaging is lovely, but that's about it. I will go to Shawarma Shop or Haifa Falafel from now on. Bummer not to have a good sit-down place for Middle Eastern food, but that will have to be in Dearborn, I guess. read more

Placed an order of small falafel and power smoothie (very beet flavor) and the lunch 3 course which came with sandwich, soup and side of potato wedges. I got the shish kafta sandwich and moroccan harira soup. They brought a side of bread as well. Plenty of food. Everything was cooked well. Soup was absolutely delicious and is now my favorite soup. I would order all items again. I had items left over to take with me. I also placed an order to go. You HAVE to try their lamb chops but if you don't that's fine because everything is good. In the past service has been good, nothing notably good or bad but this time the service was awesome. Anytime I return to Ann Arbor, Palm Palace is one of my first go to spots! There is no Middle Eastern food like Michigan's in the US-- and Palm Palace's is one of my absolute favorites. Besides the fun ambience with a palace-like exterior, when you walk in, you are immediately greeted by a camel statue! I'm always impressed with their service and affordable pricing, especially for the portions that you get. I love that they now offer robot servers, which my kids found super exciting, of course! My favorite dishes are the tabbouleh, fattoush, chicken tawook wrap, and hummus -- served with the fresh, warm pita bread. I also always order their lemonade and mint lemonade because they're freshly pressed and the iced mixture ratio is perfection! 5 stars on the food, 1 star on service. Food was truly amazing. The quantity is so good and easily shareable between 2 people. I ordered the chicken hummus shawarma platter and it came with a salad. I added a picture, and that's after I ate a quarter of it! Amazing portions. The taste is also super delicious, I will probably get this exact same meal again. Now service. Our waiter was friendly but passive aggressive? Some small comments that I thought were weird but my husband said I was overthinking it. At the end of the meal, my FIL paid. It was on those small machines they can take table to table. To be fair, he assumed the tip was included in a table of five and just paid the full amount. When he was done, our waiter said "just so you know, me serving you this meal just cost me at least $20. Now I have to go pay the busboys and etc from my paycheck." I thought that was super weird! My husband was already ready to pull out some cash but just hearing our waiter say that was super odd. He made a mistake. When he got the receipt he would've noticed and left a cash tip anyway. Pointing it out like that, especially when we were there to celebrate a birthday, was just super uncomfortable. My FIL ended up tipping 25-30% because he felt bad but the waiter just seemed annoyed at that point. Honestly an awful ending to our night and it started out so good. Delicious food, excellent service, and really nice ambiance. Hoda, our server, took amazing care of us and went above and beyond. We left so full and still had leftovers. Ordered for pickup a few days ago when I was craving Mediterranean food. I ordered on the Palm Palace website and it was a little confusing when I arrived; they had pickup spots in the parking lot and I put my name in for curbside pickup and waited 5-10 minutes but nobody came out. The curbside instructions specifically say not to call. After waiting bit I ended up going in and my order was ready. It was packaged well with the exception of the soup which spilled a bit. I ordered the chicken shawarma platter ($18.99) with rice. It was an extra $0.99 to add veggies. They misleadingly suggest that you get a second side with the platter, but outside of a cup of soup everything even the house salad has an upcharge. Even adding a small Greek salad is a $3 upcharge. A small side of toum? That's an extra $3 as well. I could look past the price but the chicken shawarma was a bit dry and unflavorful. The vegetables were good and the rice was moist but overall I was a little underwhelmed. The fattoush salad was also a little meh for $12. The size was fine but it just felt overpriced. I probably would try some other middle eastern restaurants before I'd consider ordering from Palm Palace again. read more

I had a meal with a former coworker at Palm Palace while in town. We arrived right as they opened at 10 am which is an early start to the lunch period. This restaurant has a beautiful interior decor that you notice right when you walk in with a chandelier hanging about the hostess stand. The dining room also has a similar motif which makes the area warm and comfortable for enjoying a meal. The menu was available via a QR code at a corner of our table. Because we showed up so early, the kitchen had not even finished preparing the soups yet. From the '3 Course Lunch' section for $13.99 each, I chose the Chicken Shawarma Wrap. A choice of rice (my pick) or fries was available as a carb and then I also received a side salad because of the above mentioned lack of soups. A basket of warm pita bread along with whipped butter was brought to us while we waited for our order. Slices of grilled chicken, pickles, and garlic sauce were tucked inside the wrap. The pita wrap, as well as the bread in the basket, was soft and fresh out of the oven. That was the best part of the meal. The rice and salad were ordinary with not much to mention. Our server was courteous and checked in frequently because we were her first party of the day. I rated my latest dining experience at Palm Palace between three and four stars. We recently went in person, and it was even better. Our server, Hota, was kind and charming. I really enjoyed talking to her, and it showed me how much I missed in person interactions. The interior is beautiful and romantic. It has a calming vibe with perfect lighting and romantic beadery. I've had hundreds of Greek salads but this one had a strange mix of spices that just made it taste "off". It wasn't bad but it certainly wasn't Greek. The lemonade is great and fresh, a must have. The lamb shawarma sandwich is very tasty and very filling. The service is above average and the hostess was very friendly. The fried Kibbi was above average but not excellent. Overall it was good but a few things were lacking in the taste department. I'll still come back but I've lowered my expectations somewhat. Something has changed. Second time here for dinner - food is very good. Chicken Shawarma is great, as is their hummus and fatoosh salad. Meat shawarma platter was tasty as well. Chicken vegetable soup was spot-on. Now for the bad: service both times was lacking. 20+ minutes to get drinks to the table, and no silverware until after the entrees were delivered. No follow-up until it was time to pay.
