When I asked about it, the cashier stated I could only exchange it and they "don't do" refunds. However, every bag of that exact product was past date. I settled for something similar but I don't think this was an acceptable solution. For the *very high* prices charged here, I expected better quality control and customer service. I wrote this review two years ago on Google but forgot to put it here in yelp , I hear that they accept EBT all of a sudden but I wouldn't actually know bc I have not been back : Yesterday, I was told this market takes food stamps lol but they do not (not common for this area to accept ebt, go figure). I figured this out at the counter after all my items were rung up. Anyway, I asked him, the manager, store clerk, the man who was working, to hold my groceries. Well, things went left on my end and by the time I returned around 645pm the store was closed . I am a visitor of Philadelphia, i don't know the operating hours . Today I entered the store and a man yelled at me "NO FOOD STAMPS!" I was confused because we figured this out already. My intelligence insulted and I definitely felt judged. But that's the way of our world. Products are expensive in the store but I liked the feel of the building . Other than that , customer service towards uncommon situations could be considered or at least given second thought before you just blurt out something stupid before you even say hello . read more

selection is really rough. Sort of a confusing mish mash of a few necessary items, and a few unique choices, but let's say you're going there for some basic groceries. You'll find deli meats, sure, and cheese, but no sandwich bread. Scattered produce, half of which is always out of stock, just really odd inventory choices. Deli counter was closed when I got there, and no idea about this being a 'lunch place'. Didn't look like any food was being served besides grocery stuff and frozen meals. Today marks the day that I spent $6.39 on one dozen Grade A Large Brown eggs. I was half ready for Denzel Washington to pop out of the woodwork and give his monologue from Malcolm X, "You Been Had, Took, Hoodwinked, Bamboozled, Sold A Bill of Goods." There was no prices on the section with the eggs and now I know why, if anyone saw them they would sit there until well beyond their expiration date. When he scanned the dozen eggs and said,"$6.39" I said, "By God Man How much are the eggs next to them, the Jane eggs?" (Not as much of a brand market egg as the Natural Garden selection) He replied, "$4.99".... Not much better. So you can purchase most items here but you will be paying sky high prices.....o the eggs I bought were Cage-Free Organic, No Antibiotics, No Pesticides, No Grwoth Hormones, and next time will be NO SALE. Not one to complain or look for an issue but I find it weird that when I (as a black woman) enter this establishment and is very polite , I expect the same courtesy back. If I go out of my way to say "hello" and "thank you " I don't want to be met with a blank stare. This specific instance after saying thank you with no response back, the person behind me (a white male) was met with a warm greeting. Not saying it was racism but it was definitely ignorant and unprofessional. Please do better next time! read more

I've visited a Palm Tree Market at a different location which is what drew me to here. The man behind the counter could hardly be bothered to wait on me. I ordered a sandwich and asked for both hot and sweet peppers on the side. He said why can't you have them together. I said they have different tastes and I want them separate. The sandwiches here are so good. The Boars Head meat and cheese really does make a better sandwich than the typical Dietz and Watson. They slice the meat and cheese to order using very thin slices. I can't really explain why the sandwich is so good, but I crave it daily. Unfortunately, it's not open on Sundays. Not sure that is the best business idea, but what do I know. The market has anything you might need and a nice little refrigerated cheese case. Check this place out the morning after a night out and you won't regret it. While not a full service grocery store, having Palm Tree in Manayunk has been a saving grace many times over. Perfect for when you just need a few things and they actually have an excellent selection of specialty items. They even have a small selection of produce and other fresh foods! You won't ever be stuck with only getting bread and eggs from this joint! Deli is fantastic, great sandwich selections that I get frequently when I need something quick and fresh! The staff is wonderful, friendly, and helpful. Downsides is there isn't really any selection for solid dinner foods (i.e. chicken breast, beef, pork, etc). There's also a $10 minimum on credit cards so if I'm out of cash and need only one thing, I need to get a few more things to put it over the minimum. read more

There are no prices up in the store so they can make them up on the spot and overcharge you for what you select. I was charged $7 for an oat milk box that would've been probably half that at most places, $7 for 12 eggs, $8 for a box of cereal... the list goes on. Either this convenience store is very inconveniently overpriced or they're out to jip unassuming customers. I'd love to support local businesses, but not ones with suspicious business practices. This place is just great. From the owner Chong, to the girl behind the counter Joyce. The sandwiches are always fresh and very good. I'm a fan of the S5. The prices are wayyyyy better then Main St Market and the overall feel of Palm Tree is just warm. I bought some deli meat last week (Boars Head) and was surprised by how cheap it was. I actually think its cheaper than Genuardis. I see people talking about them not being open Sundays...its an easy explanation. They do not work on the Sabbath. read more

Palm Tree - Manayunk opened in mid November and it's a great addition! It's a street up from Main Street and across the street from Sorrentino's Deli, Funny Monk Emporium & Kadillac Tattoo. The people running this shop are extremely personable and helpful. The store is always kept fully stocked and very clean. They have a deli section that serves up Boars Head meats and cheeses, they offer a variety of sandwiches, paninis and daily soups. They have a small section with fresh fruits and vegetables, they also carry frozen items and anything you would need from grocery store (cleaning products, beverages, snacks, etc.) The prices are reasonable also. This is my new go to market in Manayunk. read more

Visiting Philliy from nyc and needed organic milk for the toddlers. $8 for 1/2 gallon organic valley! That same milk is $6 at wholefoods. For this place to be more expensive than wholefoods that's an issue. I had no choice to buy it since it's for the kids. Not cool. read more

This place is extremely overpriced but it is convenient if you do not have a car and need to buy groceries. They have a wide selection of items from product and dairy to sweets and snacks. One time i bought 3 items- organic milk. Chocolate almonds, and 2 large water bottles and the price was around $17.00. Let me start with the fact we are regular customers, never had a bad experience and always happy with the market. Went in today on the way home to grab 2 sodas for the kids. At the check out there was an Asian man, not the usual nice lady. My son touched chocolate kinder egg that was right in front of him, but I told him we are not getting it today. The man looked at my 4 year old boy like he was trying to steal the egg, repeatedly stopped to look over the counter to check his hands, and then when I looked back at him, his reply was - he damage the egg! I don't exactly know if that was just poor English or he meant it - but there was no damag to the egg whatsoever! My husband lifted the egg, turned it around and said - look there is no damage, the egg is fine! The man got really angry and kept yelling at him - stop touching the egg, you damage it!!! So my husband got upset, took the drinks back and demanded his money refunded. The man gave us our money, didn't apologized but continue talking back to us, customers. We went to a wawa, spent less, got more and a better service. If you are overpriced at least have good customer service. No need to say we won't be back. read more

Stopped in tonight to pick up a few things. While, this is not a full fledged supermarket, this is a great place to pick up a few things when you can't get to a food store or Target. I needed cleaning supplies and found just what I needed. There seemed to be plenty of stock, however the pricing is a bit high. Last night I ran to acme for an avocado and a few other things but the line was INSANE and I was not waiting around for that. I thought of the next closest place to me and remembered seeing this little market so I thought I would try it out. Once getting there, it was super cute and homey feeling and the lady working was helpful and lovely. Once she rang me out my jaw dropped at the price for 3 little things $22? I got home and the avocado was a little brown but whatever no one could tell so can be mad about that. I picked up this bakery item and after dinner wanted to have some took a bite spit it out looked for the expiration date and it was august 2021?? I decided to look on yelp and surely enough everyone was saying what I was thinking! Prices are so weirdly high, and everything is expired? At least aldis gives you a discount for expired items lol. I have never in my life felt compelled to write a review about an experience I've had, but I was very disappointed with Palm Tree Market in Manayunk in particular, because it is EXTREMELY OVERPRICED! This market is obviously super cute and conveniently located. However, barely anything in the store has a price tag! So, the woman who works there guesses the price about everything. When asking her about the price of simple products, she inflates the price ENORMOUSLY! Every time I have been in there, I've had to ask the price for what I was looking at and each and every time she guessed an astronomical price. When looking up the prices of nearby stores for the same exact product, I realized that she inflates each item's price by over 75%! Don't shop here unless you like paying ridiculously high prices for everything. read more

As a long standing patron of The Palm Tree on Pine Street, I have to say the Manayunk location is horrible. I bought 2 turkey sandwiches on rye with lettuce, cheese and avocado, the other one had peppers. These were wish sandwiches...wish I had some meat!! Not only did they have 3 thin meager pieces of turkey, 1 sad slice of cheese, I pathetic piece of lettuce, the rye bread was stale. Maybe they think they can get away with this substandard product here, because of all the college kids, but I'm a grown ass man who just spent 30.00 on crap. Neadless to say, I will be going to Sorrentinos or WaWa moving forward. The owners should change the name here lest they cheapen their brand. It's a freaking sandwich, how can you screw this up so badly? read more

Not very kind to customers of color. I was waiting in line to pay for my sandwich and tea when a young African-American woman who was in line behind me asked the counter person (older Asian woman) if she could use the restroom. The old lady sternly said, "No! For employee only!" This was infuriating to me because not even 20 minutes earlier as I was browsing the aisles, I saw two white women ask the counter person to use the same restroom and the female Asian counter person was only too happy to walk them over to the bathroom door with a big ol' smile on her face. When it was my turn to pay for my items I asked her why she didn't let the young African-American lady use the restroom while she let the other two women use the bathroom. She hemmed and hawed and just stammered, "You ready to pay?" I told her that I was not going to buy anything because their store does not deserve my business. She became irate and called for the guy in the back who makes the sandwiches. He comes running over with his chest sticking out and demands that I pay. I told them both to go to hell and walked out. I went across the street to Sorrentino's and had one of the best cheese steaks I've ever eaten. TLDR: Palm Tree Market racist to blacks. Sorrentino's has better food. read more

I love this place! I just discovered PTM this week as I just moved to Manayunk, and this store is icing on the cake of my neighborhood, as it is 2 blocks away! Lucky me! This place is like Whole Foods with more asian stuff. (Love me some vegan chinese). frozen dumplings and chinese ice cream too! Also a great Italian section, organic and special pasta (what corner store carries organic farfalle??) and bottled gourmet tomato sauce ALSO every kind of canned tomato style- whole, peeled, crushed, diced, you name it! My old neighborhood's store carried only Hunt's sauce. Bagged gourmet coffee and teas, special boxed desserts like Piroulenes, sea kelp chips (at least five different flavors, too)! I have not tried any sandwiches yet or even really taken absolute mental stock of everything in here, but looking forward to doing so! Great staff too..this is my new favorite place. read more

Im from a bodega culture in Brooklyn, and it has always bothered me that Rox/Manayunk has very few corner stores. While Palm Tree is not a corner store it does have that vibe and the service is always welcoming and warm. Plus they have so many different varieties of snacks and goodies, especially hard to find brands. The sandwiches are always fresh as I do prefer Boars Head over any other brand. They have it all - AND options of different brands. They have an awesome ice cream selection (they have this incredible pistachio gelato that will turn me into an obese woman before I know it). Stopped in to grab some drinks while walking home last night, didn't even know the place was so close to my apt. I like that they are open until 11pm - there is a $10 credit card minimum. Overall the prices were comparable to any other deli or bodega. They did have an interesting selection of products (I grabbed a single serving of Pistachio gellato that was pretty fabulous). They have random stuff like light bulbs and cat food, the sort of things you might need lasy minute but don't want to drive to the supermarket. Usually go here for snacks and everything while at work because its very close to my job. They have really good food but their pricing is VERY inconstant depending on who is ringing at the cashier. And today i went there and only had a twenty to pay, since they didn't have any ones in their register I wasn't able to get my food.
