Rooms are disgusting. Found dog poop under the TV stand. Who knows how long it has been there. The under side of the ice container doesn't look like it's been cleaned in years. Good luck finding hot water for your shower. When it does get warm, it's scalding. Definitely NOT worth what you pay for, as far as lodging. The amenities of this campground are pretty nice. Lodge definitely needs some work. Maybe better "help". It looks like they turn summer camp kids loose to do the cleaning. Definitely need to raise the bar if they're going to have a lodge at the campground. read more

This is nature up close, so even with the ultra nice cabin we stayed in there were still bugs, especially flies. That is no reflection on this place in particular...it is August in South Dakota. Our cabin slept 10 and had a hot tub and fire pit. Beds were comfy, kitchen was well-appointed, just bring what you want to cook. Stayed here this past weekend for a family reunion. We stayed in the actual lodge, not the cabins. The room was decent enough - nice sized little balcony on a handful of the rooms, but not all. A number of the rooms were handicap-enabled, with handles in the shower, a stool, wide doors that stay open, etc. The free breakfast was cold cereal, bagels/English muffins, Sara Lee muffins or apples. Every day. There was also packaged instant oatmeal. Not the hardiest of meals or the most filling. Coffee is available 24-7. The wifi was not good. They have two computers available for use in the main gathering/breakfast room, except one of the computers was broken. I was never able to get the wifi to work on my phone, though people in my group had no problems getting their laptops working. The elevator is possibly the slowest in the world. If you're staying here without kids, I recommend the lodge, as it's far enough away from the pools/ice cream to be somewhat quiet. read more

Stayed here for a night while in town for a marathon. The lodge did the job. The staff was super nice and helpful on dinner recommendations. The breakfast in the morning was ok. The rooms were ok. Nothing fancy. Internet was not the best. I would stay here again. read more

Employees are very personable & helpful!! Loved our stay . Would definitely recommend. It's centrally licated to go see sight s in all directions. Stayed hear in august 2014. At first glance seems nice but after two nights and three we were beyond disgusted. Our cabin which was 250$ a night was very outdated with spiders and mice everywhere inside. Sheets were dirty, bathtub didn't drain without a stick in the handle. The amenities were even worse pool and water slide water was dirty and smelly. The food venues were over priced and very dirty conditions. The only two good things about this place was pancake breakfast which is not part of resort and chuck wagon dinner. I would not recommend this place or stay here again! read more

We did a chuck wagon dinner show run by the Dakota Badlands from their grounds. Horrible. Food just okay. Very pricy. Singer should be miked. Hard to hear. Wagons take you no place beyond a tent at edge of camp grounds. Forget the meadow scenes. Don't waste your money. read more

Stay August 2018 at the RV campground. The place was fine. My kids enjoyed the playground, lawn games and loved the $3.50 all you can eat pancakes. The horse back riding was amazing, highlight of trip. The biggest bummer was there was no WiFi and no cell service. That was tough. read more

This lodge, part of a KOA campground, is either new or recently renovated. Either way the accomodations were very nice. The WiFi is a bit under-powered. OTOH each room has a balcony or patio, and you might see a deer scampering across the grounds into the woods. We had breakfast at the restaurant. I had wonderful creamy scrambled eggs & yummy pancakes made from their Belgian waffle batter. This lodge is located a few miles past Mt. Rushmore, on the other side from the tourist town of Keystone. So this is perfect if you're looking for a quieter place for your base of operations. OTOH everything in the area, including restaurants, seems to close down at 8 or 9pm. (Maybe this changes during the summer season.) read more

We stayed at the Lodge for 5 nights over 4th of July - our son and his family were in the campground in their motorhome. We appreciated that we could be so close. Actually we thought the price was about right and we loved our room with the balcony. Very clean and comfortable. The reasons for only 2 stars are because of the breakfast and the water. The breakfast provided was very lacking for the price we were paying for our room and they were too cheap to do two things that would have made a BIG difference to me. First, I like real butter - not that crap they call I Can't Believe it's Not Real Butter. Guess what - I can tell it's not real butter!! This wouldn't have been such a big deal if there had been more choices of things to eat. And, more importantly, I love a cup of coffee in the morning - but I also like a little half and half in my coffee. All they had was that horrible powdered stuff - yuck! You guys are really penny -wise - pound - foolish! But the pancake breakfast was yummy, reasonable and fun. The worst part was the water - it's extremely rusty. When I walked into the bathroom I thought someone had forgotten to flush. It was DISGUSTING beyond words. However, I know that they can't help this situation - but under those circumstances they certainly could have had some nice, cold filtered water in the dining room so their guests could at least get a drink. We were on the road for 3 weeks and stayed in lots of motels that were half the price we were paying here and they almost always had water for us in their dining rooms all day and night - even though we were comfortable drinking their tap water. So the only things we could do was buy water or melt ice from their ice machine to drink or brush our teeth. Honestly - I can't believe they wouldn't let us have a clean drink - disgusting cheap on their part. read more

We stayed here in July of 2014. I will not be back. The hotel has no central air and when you have to wait 15+ minutes to check in, it gets hot. Upon arrival in our room, the microwave which we paid extra for had a broken leg, but we were told there were not more. I tried to sit in the chair at the table and it fell apart and we were missing one deck chair. Upon turning on the bathroom light/fan, it squealed so loud for 5 minutes I thought I would go crazy. The Wi-Fi at this place is no existent. If you are going to advertise Wi-Fi, it shouldn't work only in 1 room and be shared among all hotel guests. Breakfast was dismal with only muffins, toast, cereal, no protein or hot items and only powdered coffee creamer. We were told we could use the KOA facilities and programs, but were never given any programing materials. The waterslide and pool water was brown and disgusting. Because Wi-Fi and cell service were no existent, we gave both my husband and my father the hotel # to call our room. No one ever picked up the phone at the front desk in the 30+ minutes my husband spent trying to call us. My father who was calling from over-seas experienced the same thing. Trying to check out was a joke. I waited for 20 minutes with three people in front of me and three people behind me and no one in sight to help. Once we checked out and were staying at another nearby location we realized that we had forgotten a cell phone charger. We went back because we were nearby at an attraction and the front desk clerk acted like it was the biggest deal in the world to look through the lost and found. She told my mother that she should be more careful when we packed up....um, really? You talk to your "guests" that way. While the location is great and convenient, I would never stay here again and I would drive the extra 10 minutes into town. read more

I would give a 0 if I could. This is a KOA -- aka many camper trailers -- 100+. The e older cabins suck and stink and I stayed in what they wanted me to stay in less than 5 minutes. The staff (4 stars) at the lodge is good and courteous -- they did their best to put lip sticks on this pig! Lodge rooms; Rust in water, No refrigerators, ROCK hard beds, breakfast all bread (coffee B-), AC units in room and LOUD! Restaurant food was terrible. Stay at Custer or Keystone. So many other nice Hotels to stay at. This is not a Lodge! Additionally, when I went to the GM and VP of Operations and got nothing from either -- they do not care! read more

Very nice lodge and after our experience in one of their cabins (see my other review) we were happy to move to the lodge. They are pet friendly, which was much appreciated. The beds were comfy, AC worked great, the room was very clean. Great wifi, loved the balcony looking out over the lawn. Neighbors were very easy to hear, especially the upstairs ones. No fridge, microwave or DVD player, all of which would have been nice. No kleenex was provided, which also would have been nice. The toilet was the loudest toilet I'd ever heard when flushing. We had a problem with hearing a neighboring room's water running constantly and the staff was quick to respond and fix it. Breakfast was limited, no hot items, but it held us over until lunch. Overall, it was missing a few amenities but for just one night it was ok. Our son enjoyed all the kids activities the KOA had to offer and we had a nice horseback ride while staying here. read more

We stayed there where we meet all our family to celebrate the Crazy Horse Marathon my brother in law was going to run. The hotel was very nice and the employees very friendly. The only bad experience was the insects (flies, beetles and huge wasps) kept entering thru the AC and infesting the room. After the second night we complained and they upgraded us to a nicer room and just when we thought "Oh thank God it's over!" That room became infested the same way via the AC unit the same way. Aside from that horrible part it was fine. Beats me why the dang insects kept making their way into the room via the AC units, maybe there was supposed to be filters in place that wasnt? read more
