Buffalo ravioli

This review is for the restaurant only. The lodge is a perfect spot to stop for lunch or dinner. We dined during Covid, inside. Servers wore masks but guests were not required to wear them. We felt very comfortable eating here. Tables were spaced out and everything was very clean. Our waitress was excellent. Our drinks were never empty and she was so kind sharing her favorite trails in the park with us. Food was better than I expected for a restaurant in a state park. Portions were a good size for the prices. If you're looking to catch some glimpses of the bison they like to hang out in the area around the hotel.

Lone Buffalo on the wildlife loop

We stayed in a beautiful two bedroom two bath cabin with a little kitchen. Talk about glamping! This was the absolute best accommodation on our state/national park tour. The location is awesome by the wildlife loop. We had this our home base in the black hills for 4 nights and I would not hesitate recommending this place to friends.

All other parks are 1:00 The price is 47.00 a night, without full hookups. You can pay an extra 3.00 for full hook ups near by with better sites. They charged us a $30.00 late fee for checking out at 11:50. There was NO ONE THERE , That had to wait on us. It is a RV site. No one has to clean up.....What the heck! The dump station, takes some maneuvering to turn around in a small place. The view is great, but the lack of personal interaction is terrible. I would look for other parks, in the area. 1 out of 13 states is not bad for an average. You always have that one!!!!!

They boast being a "mom and pop" camp which is great but they don't like you having visitors at any time of the day. They kicked our family out after saying we could have guests as long as they weren't spending the night. We had 3 day guests between our 3 RV sites. Really it comes down to no parking or room for vehicles. We weren't loud and didn't bother any guests. We thought we parked where the owner asked us to park. Like I say, just too small for any kind of group. We rented 3 RV sites, 1 large cabin and 1 small cabin. Next year we will take our family elsewhere in Custer. We would have stayed an extra night but not after they were rude to our family.

A MUST STAY!!! Everything from cleanliness to most friendliest hospitality I've ever experienced…read more Anne was so welcoming when we arrived at SHADY REST, it was like meeting up with a good friend after years apart. She gave us the run down on best places to eat and things to do, which was very helpful. The Cabin was located walking distance from Main St. We actually drove up to Hill City, Keystone & Deadwood to visit for the day and later that eve came back through Custer without reservations for second night, called Anne at SR and she was happy to arrange a cabin for us within minutes of our arrival. Highly recommend staying here with great rate to boot. We enjoyed our stay very much in Custer. Can't wait to go back!! and of course stay at SHADY REST MOTEL/Cabins!! Thanks again Anne&John and GOD BLESS!

The cabin itself is cozy with cable tv, Wi-Fi, a small kitchen area, and a porch swing....and a Jacuzzi. Anne was always ready to make honest suggestions where to go, and she was always right. We asked if there was an ice machine, she said no, but brought us back a tub of ice from her own kitchen. The location is near everything you are wanting to visit in South Dakota. Highly recommend you stay here if travelling through, as you feel nestled in the woods, yet still part of civilization, and amazing customer service

Having previously stayed at The Bavarian Inn just up the road, we reached out to discover that they, among others, were closed. The owners mentioned their new property in town, EO Bungalows, and how they were offering enhanced cleaning and contactless check-in/out. This combination was perfect for us and we booked one night. This location features four private units with ensuite bathrooms and a common courtyard. Parking is curbside and you're just one block off the main strip, making the location very walkable. The units themselves are wonderful. Nicely furnished with very comfortable beds; a kitchette with everything you need including a toaster; a bathroom with an incredible steam shower, dimmable lighting in all areas and artwork that creates a wonderful, peaceful atmosphere. We drive an electric car and found convenient free charging available at the local Chamber of Commerce just two blocks away. We had dinner on The Custer Wolf's patio and enjoyed our first restaurant meal in months. Thanks EO Bungalows! We'll be back... looking forward to the next Tesla rally, whenever that is.

I stayed at the Rock Crest Lodge this summer when I was in Custer for a wedding. We requested an…read moreaccessible room, and it worked for the most part. There were a few issues...but they were manageable since I wasn't staying in the room alone. Trouble 1) When showering, you can't reach the shower controls while sitting on the shower bench. I keep seeing this in hotels, I'm not sure what they expect you to do. Most people who need a shower bench can't stand up and get the controls! Trouble 2) Tiny little closet rod, difficult to get to behind the table & chairs (and the bathroom door). It's low, to make it an accessible height, but so difficult to reach that it was almost not worth even trying! Trouble 3) Table and chairs in the room would be nice if we were cooking in our room & such, but since we weren't they were really just in the way. The table was too small to pull under when in a wheelchair anyway. Their location meant that I couldn't reach the kitchenette area anyway. If I'd been staying alone I'm not sure how I would have handled the shower, and I would have requested that staff remove the table & chairs. Just thought I'd warn other wheelchair users so they can make an informed decision. The bed was adequately comfortable, water pressure was great, the room a little noisy due to the proximity of the ice-room & the parking lot. Overall - could have been better, but could have been much worse - at least i was able to get in and out! :)
