The museum itself was a hodge podge of Cold War artifacts (statues, Soviet books, assorted items like cameras and recording machines and mementoes) displayed along with art on the walls. Local California-artists are sometimes represented with their photographs and painting also taking up space during some of their special exhibits, as the curators try to align the theme of communism with left-wing ideas of social justice and racial discrimnation. Beyond the art on the walls, however, and far more interesting, are LOTS of special events and regular programs like (free) yoga, meditation, lectures/talks, amazing jazz music on certain evenings. The museum sends out a newsletter monthly listing all the upcoming events. All in all a fantastic (cost-free) resource for the Culver City community and for the Westside of LA in general.

This is the very first Build-A-Bear & Hello Kitty and Friends Workshop with new locations at American Dream in New Jersey (opened in February 2026) and Mall of America in Minnesota (plan to open in early 2026). [Parking]: Parking rates at Westfield Century City = 1 hour free, 1 hour and 20 minutes = $4, and additional 20 minutes = $2. $32 daily max. Unfortunately the workshop doesn't offer parking validation. [Experience]: The shop has all of popular Sanrio characters and visitors can also find other hard-to-find characters like Badtz-Maru, Keroppi, U*SA*HA*NA, Pekkle, Tuxedo Sam, Aggretsuko, etc. They also sell various accessories including some of LA shop exclusive items. [Process]: There was no waiting line on Saturday at 4 PM. First select an unstuffed character from the bins (Choose Me) and follow by picking accessories. Next walk up to a staff member and decide whether to add scents & sound. Once a final decision has been made, then a staff member will assist customers on using a foot-pedal machine to fill up the character with cotton with desired fluffiness. Before the character is stitched closed, customers will go through the Heart Ceremony (make a wish and kiss a heart before it's stuffed into the character). Customers will ultimately pay at the cashier counter and can also get a cardboard carrying case for an extra charge. The whole process also comes with a birth certificate to take home. Rather, it's like Target is to Targét when we are trying to be fancy. So that's Rubel as in "Roo-bell." Unlike modern-day construction, Rubel Castle wasn't built overnight. It was made of collected recyclables and construction rubble that spanned many decades and took several friends and volunteers to build it. For Michael, however, the lifetime inspiration was first sparked at the age of 9. His love for canons was where it started and the rest is history you can hear about on the tour. But don't just show up like we did randomly one day. It's a feast for the eyes no matter where you glance. I particularly enjoyed the bottle house that Michael built in 1968 as his "home" as a kid. Within about ten minutes of walking in, they both admitted that the museum was actually really cool. The movie and TV cars were a huge hit. Seeing vehicles from Fast & Furious, Stranger Things, and other shows they recognized made everything instantly more fun. From there, they got pulled into the history, the rare models, and the stories behind each car. It turned into a full family adventure. We also had great conversations with several docents. They were incredibly knowledgeable and answered even the most random questions with enthusiasm. Their passion added so much to the experience. We spent around two and a half to three hours exploring, and it was absolutely worth the cost. Admission was about $50 per person and parking was $20, and honestly, I'd pay it again without hesitation. My daughters left smiling, talking about their favorite cars, and already asking what else the museum has. Fantastic visit. Highly recommend.
