When she moved to primary care, I had to wait until she was excepting my insurance. I literally set a reminder in my phone every month to call and check. It has been a challenge for me to find doctors that I trust and truly feel have my best interest in mind. Maya is a kind, caring and great at what she does. I feel comfortable and like it's more of team effort vs someone simply telling me what I should and shouldn't do. She wants to learn about her patients lives so she may in turn have a better understanding of what values and goals are important to them. She wants you to voice your concerns because no one knows you as well as YOU. I don't dread my visits to the doctor anymore, which is such refreshing feeling. I like the idea of a physician that can continue to provide care to you throughout your life span, so the idea of a Family Practice physician appealed to me. Dr. Cornwall is very much like the family doctor I had when I was a kid: Low key, not too excitable, friendly, knows who you are and what your health challenges are. I appreciate his approach with my kids. My two are generally pretty healthy, so we work on ways to keep them that way, but he's always there if they've got something more serious going on. The staff at Monterey are friendly and good with my kids too. Especially Dr. Cornwall's assistant! She is great when she has to give the boys their injections. I guess I would recommend Dr. Cornwall if you are looking for the 'old fashioned medicine' approach. This is definitely a doctor that you can build a long term relationship with.

Our favorite providers (Dr Pritchard and Nancy Casey) left. Some staff members can be pretty unhelpful and truly only seem to care about their billing and rules. The other negative reviews are spot on, sadly. (The current exception is Jonathan, a medical assistant in the adult clinic--he's kind, personable, and was excellent with my teen, but alas, he only does the check in/vitals part). They are consistently late--we always wait at least 30 minutes up to an hour most recently for our appointment to begin, and this is in addition to taking kids out of school to be there 15-20 minutes early to check in! They absolutely do not respect a patient's time and offer zero apology. It's maddening. I've messaged different providers for different family members or reasons, and the same person writes back each time, so it's definitely not secure or private in any way. She also types the absolute minimum and doesn't seem to want to help in any way, but if you call, they tell you to message via the portal. They up-charged us for longer or more involved appointments for my kids even though we've only discussed one issue at the short appointment, and when I questioned the billing department, they said they'd immediately remove the charge since I asked about it. Since I asked?! So if people don't notice and question the additional charge, they just get scammed? Appalling. They recently told me the next available check in for a child was in several months. I said our prescription will lapse before then, and they asked if I still wanted to schedule. I had to point out in writing that they need to refill the prescription temporarily so it doesn't lapse if we have to wait for an appointment or else please fit us in for even a video appointment. I had to fight this back and forth and once I said I need to confirm you are refusing to refill a child's necessary medicine prescription and also making her wait for an appointment so the medicine will lapse and it will affect her health immediately--finally then they suddenly had an appointment available in two days (which was a video appointment where we waited almost an hour for them to come online and didn't until I called the office and told them we were online waiting.) The final straw was in taking a teen to discuss a medical issue they were already anxious about, and the provider made a big deal about her weight to the point of hinting that she'll develop an eating disorder (child feels fine about their diet and eats well/healthy) and we left the appointment with teen crying and anxious about a condition they don't even have! We're done with SMC, and I'm so sad. Dr Pritchard and Nancy Casey were amazing women and great resources for our neighborhood, but sadly this place has gone so far downhill since they left that I won't risk my kids' health here anymore.

The staff at Sellwood Medical Clinic showed a lack of empathy and professionalism. Here is a summary of three interactions I had with this clinic. In November 2025, I arrived about 30 minutes early for an appointment and was told to wait until my scheduled time. Once I was taken to the exam room, I waited another hour for the clinician to arrive. At the time, I did not mind because she was thorough and friendly. She recommended that I return for a well-person visit. I had to wait 5 months for a well-person visit appointment. Then, shortly before the appt, it was cancelled. I received an email and voicemail saying the provider had to leave early and that I needed to call to reschedule. When I called back to reschedule, the next available appointment was another month away. My most recent experience, two weeks ago, is the reason I am writing this review. The appointment I had been waiting five months for finally arrived. I completed the online pre-check-in hours in advance, which took more than 20 minutes, and I paid my copay. Because of rain and traffic, I arrived shortly after my scheduled appointment time. The clinic said staff told me I was nine minutes late. I had also paused outside to let an elderly couple enter first, which delayed my check-in by a few minutes. I was refused care and told I would need to reschedule. I explained that I urgently needed the visit and calmly asked whether they could reconsider. I also noted that my previous appointment had been cancelled and that this was the rescheduled date. Attending these appointments requires time away from work. The front desk employee went back again to relay my request. By that point, I was in tears. During this time, two women behind the reception desk were giggling and laughing. I do not know what they were laughing about, but I was visibly upset while they looked my way, talked, and laughed. It felt unsettling and deeply unprofessional. Ultimately, I was not seen. Neither clinic management nor the clinician came out to speak with me. The front desk employee apologized again and said I would have to reschedule. Afterward, I emailed the clinic to ask for more information about their "9-minute policy." I was told in writing that no such formal policy exists. Their response stated: "The 9 minute grace time for being late to an appointment is not a clinic policy, it is the most amount of time we can give for a patient to arrive for the appointment and still be seen." I then had to request they refund my copayment 3 days after this incident. Overall, this experience was highly unprofessional. The clinic delayed my care by cancelling and postponing my appointment, then denied services because I was allegedly nine minutes late. I will not continue trying to receive care at Sellwood. A medical clinic and its staff should treat patients with compassion and empathy, and I experienced neither. I left feeling embarrassed and unsupported. Although it may take time to see another provider, the wait will be worth it. I encourage patients to choose a clinic where they feel heard and supported.

Referrals to specialists are also speedy and accurate. I agree that the phone wait for scheduling can be long, though not always, and there is an option to dial right into the clinic, as well. Issues were getting the run around on a billing matter, getting a different answer from the billing person each of the four times I asked for clarification to the same question. Unprofessional staff at the front desk at times; while waiting for a blood draw both in receptionarea & clinic room there was a very loud extended conversation about using coupons when shopping over the previous week end. The blood draw person commented on it as well; we were in a closed door room but could clearly hear the conversation which droned on & on. Most important issue was lack of treatment. Though Lisa, the provider I saw, diagnosed several issues, offered no treatment, though she did order a blood test which was relevant to one of the issues but I did not receive any treatment for that. When I called Providence Customer Care to find another option, they were familiar w Sunrise Clinic for previous complaints for lack of treatment/undertreatment. I realized also that if I were to become ill or have an accident, I would need to be under the care of an MD & that's not a good time to have to find one. I didn't find I got much extra time w an NP provider, as opposed to an MD provider, which frankly was one of the reasons I chose this clinic. I could go on but this is the gist of it. Occurred 2019.

I have been trying for three weeks now to get a simple statement showing my payments to MFCC for FSA substantiation and just now received an email bounceback that their office is closed all week. Firstly, it's impossible to reach the front desk - voicemail only. Then they call you back from an unlisted number, so it's impossible to know who is calling. Argh. Then, the doctor requires that you submit new patient paperwork via email for her to review before you are allowed to make an appointment. The reason given is that she might decide she doesn't think you fit in her practice. It then takes a week to hear back after emailing over the paperwork. after which, you need to follow up with them, if you want an appointment. No courtesy call the day before to remind you there's an appointment, so you call to see what's doing there and have to let it ring out and call again. Receptionist answers finally and confirms yes, you do have an appointment. You arrive 10 minutes early, then wait until 25 mins past the start of your appointment time to speak with the Doctor. The Doctor is thorough and nice (if quite defensive about being called out for being so late). Attempts by staff to draw blood - the student MA's attempt is painful and she aborts mission. (Bruise is already looking pretty gnarly) Bring in the senior tech to have a go at the other arm - who can't find a vein and aborts mission after digging around for a bit. At this stage, I've been at their office for 1 Hr 40 mins. They tell me they will write a script to go to a lab and have blood drawn. Knowing my personal compliance level to find the time to drive to yet another appointment is very low, tell them not to bother. Needless to say, despite friendly student medical assistant and thorough/friendly Doctor, I'm still in the market for a new GP.
