We wanted to find a place without reservations on a cold day in Liverpool. We walked into this place no problem and got a seat. The restaurant side was relatively quiet with some large tables. You could hear music coming from the lively bar area. The food was surprisingly good. I had the fish n chips with curry sauce and it was fresh and tasty. I did not care for the peas. My wife had the scouse which was also very flavorful. We were able to try some local dishes with a twist and the service was good. Not a bad experience. read more

We enjoyed a surprising dinner here while walking around the dock area. Music was playing fairly loud and everyone seemed to be enjoying the casual atmosphere. We ordered the scouse and fish & chips and were very happy with our meals. Both items were very good! Service was quick and we were often checked on to make sure we had all that we needed. If you are touring the dock I would recommend giving this place a try. read more

We went there just for a bottle of champagne on celebrating a friend's birthday. We just went in and ordered a bottle of champagne and had a conversation after a post -exhibition coffee and cake break at Tate Liverpool. Not much can be commented on the service wise. The best part of this place is the view since it overlooks the Albert Docks. The Museum and Liverpool, Open Eye gallery and three graces are also can be seen when sitting inside Pan-Am. We chose to sit on one of the booths, which seems a bit too old and requires a bit renovation. read more

Ohhhh dear. Bad times. Extremely bad times. Slow service plus flustered bar staff plus lack of organisation equals not a very great night out at Pan Am. The location of this bar is ideal for concert goers and tourists as it's located upon the Albert Dock and offers food as well as beverages. Getting the attention of the staff here is nigh on impossible and although I didn't go for the eating option, I've had friends divulge that the experience wasn't worthwhile. The service problem persists there too, simple mistakes are made across the board apparently, whether it's failing to provide you with cutlery or your food arriving cold. The only positive here is that the prices are okay, not insanely cheap but not as expensive as some high profile Albert Dock bars. But if you're in the area you might find it worth shopping around a bit, because you could regret it if you resign yourself to Pan Am early on. read more

Pan-American or Pan-Am is a bar-restaurant in my favourite Albert Dock in close proximity to the big wheel. Despite being part of the merseyside taste accreditation scheme, being open till late all week, It is more of a destination bar which offers food rather than the other way around. Having said that they do have lots of food offers on, including their own loyalty card. There is also 50% off the A La Carte menu if you print off one of the vouchers from their website. If you are looking to play out on a school night this is a good option as it is open until 2am every night. They also have comedy nights and live music, as well as your run of the mill nights where you can boogey to some of the latest tunes. Perfect for post and pre concert drinks and bite to eat. We had our English Ball here, so all glammed up, best frock and all the boys suited and booted, off we strolled, (tottering along the cobbles to the Docks) We had an amazing time, PanAm was hired out especially for us, the canapes which they prepared were delish, I can only hope that the food is as sumptuous in main meal size! Tip: They do much better offers on food at lunch time if you want to treat yourself at a reduced price. The cocktails were gorgeous and we got extras which is always a bonus! The bar staff were real pros and to top it all off, the spangly electric-lit night view across the Docks out of the full glass windows is a beautiful accompaniment to the interior ambiance and a bellisimo strawberry daiquiri. Went to the PanAm with four other diners. Most of us had the Fish n' Chips. The fish was optimally battered, large portions, & thick. The chips were all sorts of varying shapes & sizes. The larger ones were crunchy on the outside & creamy on the inside, nice. The problems started when I ordered a bourbon n' Sprite (you know the brand name lemon-lime carbonated canned soft drink). Our waitress acknowledged that she knew that which I requested, BUT YET WHEN I FINALLY GOT MY HIGHBALL, IT WAS BOURBON & LEMONADE(?). HOW IN THE WORLD IS LEMONY LEMONY NON-CARBONATED LEMONADE LIKE CARBONATED SPRITE. I should have refused the drink, but I chocked another disappointment up to THE CULTURE GAP. I then ordered a Guinness after finishing my bourbon (yuck, I hate lemonade). It arrived about the time I was finishing my fish n' chips (ahhh, great responsiveness). We mentioned to the waitress that we wished separate (3) checks but of course didn't get them...had to remind her & go through the total breakdown. It took upwards of five minutes to get the check because she gave us NO eye contact & generally wandered throughout the other side of the dining room. The crappiest service I receive is when I venture outside the USA. Opponents can argue what they will about the American gratuity system, but you know, basing a server's tip on performance is an effective compensation plan. That 15-20% makes people WANT TO BE ATTENTIVE, PERSONABLE, EFFICIENT, ETC. ETC. The service we got tonite was abysmal. read more

The restaurant, layout and atmosphere are fine, a bit trendy. The service was a bit lousy. During a weekday at lunch, when it was not that busy everything seemed to crawl. The food was well presented. The wine service was placing a bottle on the table. They did not give us the opportunity to taste it to make sure it was any good. We did taste it the server had gone. It was not very good, but I thought it wasn't worth the effort to complain. The location is wonderful with a view out to Albert Dock. The booths that was sat in were enormous. They are large round booths that could probably seat about 10. The other item that was distinctive was the layout of the bathrooms. First you enter into a shared sink area before it separates men from women. It makes it feel more like one giant bathroom with a men and womens section to it. Maybe they keep their best staff to serve the busy times during the evenings. The calmness of the setting beckons a lunch visit if you are having a crazy day or have just enjoyed the Tate Gallery around the corner. read more

I went here for the first time a couple of days ago with some friend who were visiting Liverpool for the first time. I'd heard great review about it as a club and some promising reviews about it's lunch service so I thought I better give it a go. The interior is decked out really nicely with a spacious modern feel. The food refleced the interior with a well balanced menu offering everything you'd epect in a good gastro pub. The only down side was the service was a wee bit slow. I ate here on a Saturday lunch time with 2 friends, after wandering around the docks for a while trying to find somewhere we all fancied. After figuring out that there was a much lighter area facing on to the water, we sat ourselves down in a booth and studied the menu. Myself and one of my friends went for the Veggie Sub and my other friend chose the Meatball Sub. We ordered at the bar and the bar maid was friendly enough and the prices fairly reasonable. I liked the food - the sweet potato fries were really good and the filling of the sub was enjoyable. The only thing I would say as a negative was that the bread was a little dry at the ends but overall I'd say it was pretty average pub grub - I'd go back. read more

We're here at 5pm, just finished eating. I have to say not a vast choice of main meals at this time of day. My daughter had a cheesy pasta dish from the kids menu and a chocolate brownie and ice cream not too pricey at £6. They listed 4 smoothies on the menu but had none left of any kind!! Howsat? I had haddock and chunky chips. Very nice but for £11.95 I shouldn't still be hungry.. Tasted lovely but put more on the plate guys. Comfy seats and service good although it wasn't busy. We did not come here at night for drinks, but a quick bite to eat for lunch. This place wrecks of urine. I'm sorry, but the decent quality taste of the food does not do justice of how much this place smells. Not only does it smell, but it is also dirty. Our tables were full of dust. Overall the place did not look clean. On top of that when my friends and I went to go up and order, we did not have the friendliest staff serve us. When my friend went to go up to get her water cup, it had a HUGE lipstick stain on it. The condiments on our table were all expired as well. I went to go look at the other tables for more condiments and they were expired as well. For our meal, we ordered some kind of pasta, 2 pork loin sandwiches, and the duck wrap. It was alright. It was decently made. But to me, the service is what makes a restaurant more than 3 stars. Overall, not a good experience. My friends and I will always refer to bad stench as PanAm. read more

To celebrate the completion of the first year of university, our department organised a glamorous masquerade ball here in Pan Am, the host of MTV Awards after party, it was considered good enough for UoL's English students! The event was fantastic, with liberal offerings of canapés and cocktails and impeccable service. My only criticism is the music; I can't recall music throughout the evening, only near the end by which point many guests had moved on to livelier venues. Perhaps PanAm charged for music and the budget of the English Society would not stretch; it had after all spent generously on sustenance and setting, and what a beautiful setting it is. Pan Am recognizes the history of this Grade I listed building and utilizes the original interior features: the stone floor, and exposed brickwork and numerous cast iron columns are visible throughout, while the fashionable soft furnishings and quirky rest rooms bring the place into the 21st century. The view across the illuminated Albert Dock that evening was just stunning and, together with the terrific evening (and probably a few cocktails) made several students confess their contentment with choosing the city of Liverpool for their university studies. read more

Visited here with my wife and friends on a Saturday night. Food and wine commensurate with prices but service woefully inadequate. Waited an eternity for the attention of a member of staff just to ask for our bill - eventually had to ask at the bar where we were dismayed to find the rest of the restaurant empty and several members of staff lounging around having a chat. Our grievance was met with a series of antagonistic excuses offered by a defiant manageress who frankly just exacerbated the situation. Disappointing. read more

If you cherish the idea of paying high prices for a meal in a sticky-floored, vodka-red-bull scented atmosphere, PanAm will be right up your street. Assuming you're also a fan of sub-par food (our bread was clearly stale and reheated, with the Caesar salad consisted of not much more than a pile of lettuce and mayo). A bit dark inside but when you get upsatirs into the round booth like places it is lighter and more acceptably lit. Nice food and attentive service,good menu choices and reasonably priced.
