This is a pirate themed pub n restaurant located in the famous Albert Docks in Liverpool. The ambiance is vibrant and fun, and the decor is fantastic. It transports you to bygone days. Service was a little hit or miss. And the food was ok, but some of the order was messed up..ie "is there lettuce n tomatoes in the burger?" Answer, was yes and there wasn't any. I ordered one of their specialised hanging kebabs, which was a cute novel idea, I have never seen that before. A good effort, but maybe more for a drink? read more

Took the family here for dinner on Fathers Day, but was slightly disappointed. I had been here a few years back with some work colleagues, and really enjoyed the meal; in fact raved about it to my family. This time, the kabobs were a bit overcooked and dry, and the service seemed disengaged. Our waiter seemed very busy and didn't really check back to see if we needed more drinks or how the meal was. After running the Liverpool Rock n' Roll Marathon in the morning, I was hungry for some Bangers and Mash. The restaurant was conveniently located at the Albert Dock next to several other nice fancy looking restaurants. I tried to get a table without a reservation, but they were packed so I had to find a spot at the bar. The restaurant had a nice ambiance. It was dark and sort of felt like the Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland. So the restaurant was appropriately named. I also loved the design of their menus. After finding a spot at the bar, I finally ordered a beer and the Bangers and Mash. The bartender put in my order, but about 15 minutes later I was told that they were out. It was a bit weird that they had me pay right away, so they had to credit it back to my credit card. I asked for recommendations on what else was good on the menu. I was told that the Hanging Kebobs were good. So I got the Hanging Beef Kebobs and this time I asked if I could start a tab. They held on to my credit card and gave me a key with a number on it. When the food was brought out, they pour the garlic oil on top, so that it drips down the skewer. He was right, it was very good... nice, and delicious. Bottom line: Food and drinks are on the expensive side, but it's good food. read more

Wish I could get it zero stars, but it's not an option. Bartender sucked. Made a drink for one (which was supposed to be for two) and added a ton of ice. Cocktail barely made it halfway to the glass, despite the mountain of ice. When we complained he said he "made it by the book"; weird way to construct a cocktail. I love when they remove all creativity and hospitality, it really makes for a truly enjoyable experience. I will never come back. If you're a tourist, avoid this place at all costs. read more

Wow. So delicious. The food was outstanding and the service was amazing. Service: I think her name was Georgia (?) and she was so helpful, made the best of recommendations, and was extremely attentive. Environment: definitely a place that is more fitting for dressing up rather than down. Pretty large space with a restaurant in the front and then a bar in the back that was much less lit making it more like a cove. The whole place went together really well considering it's a nicer place but had the theme of "smugglers cove". It took a while to get a table to eat but I waited in the bar area and got a drink while waiting. Food: again, wow. I got the chicken kebab which they presented so well, the kebab hangs from the stand and the drizzle the butter down over the kebab which then lands on the fries, not only looking cool but tasting AMAZING. Then I got the sundae and the blend of flavors was perfect. I would 10/10 come here again and recommend to anyone. read more

Their website says they will accommodate if you do not have reservations. We are in Liverpool only one day. The wait staff asked if we were there to eat. We said no. She said well they only seat reservations. Make up your mind. If your website says you will accommodate then do so. We ended up at another restaurant that was spectacular on the wharf instead. So I guess we should thank them for denying us the opportunity to dine with them. read more

Came to dinner here after taking "the Beatles Story" exhibition as it is adjacent to the exhibit. Beautiful water view from our table! The decor is rustic pirate/old world. Would definitely not recommend. Terrible service. Waited an hour just for starters. Waitress didn't even apologise after we had to ask about our food twice. Food was average. Out of the 4 of us nobody loved their food. Drinks were ok. Prices way too high for the service and what you get out of it. Only upside was that the atmosphere was nice. read more

This is a generous three-star review. We were served by a waiter who told us it was his first day on the job so service could be slow. That would have been fine if other customers, who arrived after us and were served by the same waiter. As for the food, the calamari was good but salty, Better Half's rump steak was delish, and my sirloin, ordered medium rare, was at least medium. One time, as we were waiting and waiting for dinner, someone who might have been a manager, apologized for the wait and asked how our drinks were. No offer for another round, just an inquiry. If you choose to dine at The Smugglers Cove, make yourself comfortable, get water to deal with the salt, and order your meat rarer than you like. read more

Came here for dinner and drinks on a Friday night and had an amazing time. The pan fried salmon entree was decent (cooked perfectly but lacked salt, and the tomato and capers sauce on the plate probably should've topped the salmon to make the dish more cohesive and easier to eat). The small plates/appetizers were the star of the show. The pan fried garlic mushrooms were amazing. The sardines were also spectacular (I highly recommend using the lemon and the cholula hot sauce that comes with them). The Camembert dish was just okay to me (but I'm not a fan of the cheese to begin with). The pork crackling was delicious and served with a warm apple sauce/chutney...certainly a different take than I've ever seen on cracklings. They also have a great selection of craft beers! (Side note: why is so hard to find Belgian strong ales in Liverpool?). They also have Trappist ales which can be hard to come by...they're a little pricey but you get your money's worth in taste and %ABV!!! The live music was a nice touch, and by the time we finished our meal it was a full on party around 9:30PM. We ended up staying for at least another hour and having drinks at the bar (they specialize in rum cocktails). They have some pretty fancy drinks. Definitely a little pricey, but worth the effort they put into making the drinks. I would definitely come back here again! read more

Went in here twice now the first time I was not impressed really slow service and the portion Size was quite small on the signature kebabs. The waiter took a long time to get the bill and felt like he was waiting for tip at the end. The second time I came in the waiting time for a table was reduclious and felt like going some where else, we waited had to end up eating at the bar which was most inconvenient. Though this time I had the fish and chips which was great but the waitress just out the food down and walked away didn't ask did I need sauce or anything also.. My friend and I got our food a good 15 mins apart which was not good at all. read more

We had a wonderful experience here. We had a large party and had a reservation. At first we were put off by the placement of our party, we were in the hallway leading to the door, but looking around we could see there was no other place for the 12 of us. We settled in and met our server Rhea. She was FABULOUS she made our experience there as wonderful as it was. She was attentive and funny and helpful with selections. Being Americans we have been told about not tipping the waitstaff except for maybe 10% for great service. We ignored that and left her a double tip she was that good. read more

After staying in Liverpool overnight we were finishing off a small shopping trip in one center and seeing as it was my first visit, (Don't judge me - the North East is a lengthy journey!) we decided to take a stroll round the docks. All new to me Liverpool had never really been on my hit list of places to go in the UK but I loved it here. We had a slightly bizarre start to our hotel stay but that's for another review... As one of my work friends was originally from Liverpool I was armed with a number of restaurant names and when we came across the Cove a remembered the themed bar and menu suggestions from my friend! As it was a nice day we headed inside and were seen to a nice table for two with a great view over the docks. The decoration was fantastic - this place could definitely be passed off as the inside of a pirate ship! With two levels the restaurant is set with long wooden tables that which are reminiscent of Pirates of the Caribbean. The menu matches this and after perusing the cocktail menu I decided to go all out on recommendation of a little fruity rum number! We ordered food - my friend opted for the chicken wings that came served in a small pirate chest and ordered the peri-peri chicken for his main with a mountain of fries! I went for the lamb couscous, which was yummy. I didn't want anything too heavy and this hit the spot using the large style couscous and plenty of flavors in the lamb sauce it was delish. Adding another cocktail for after we were both satisfied and the meal was reasonable value for money for a quick shopping pit-stop. read more

Attended here on Saturday evening for a friends birthday. Tucked away in a quiet corner of the Albert dock, it is not the easiest place to find! Once inside, it is like stepping into a scene from pirates of the carribean! There is a large bar area so service is pretty quick and also holds the world record for the most types of rum! We booked a table for 15 at 21.00 - which was not ready when we arrived. After being seated at 9.30pm on an inadequate sized table, we were then told we has been seated at the wrong table. We were moved into an even more inadequately sized table which was so dark we couldn't read the menus! Food wasnt amazing - average pub grub! I would say this place is good for a few drinks with friends, however there are better places to eat on the albert dock! read more

Tucked away. Mellow with a fun atmosphere. I enjoyed the steak salad and the steak sandwich. Even the side salad was impressive. Only downside is the restaurant up stairs is sometimes reservation only so you will be sitting in the bar, but that's fine with me. read more

Went into this bar after visiting a photography exhibition at the Albert Dock Had no idea what it was like, went in because the door on the dock side was open. Am so pleased we found it. I think it hasnt been ooen very long, we ordered Bloody Marys and they realised there was no tomato juice on the bar. While we were waiting different members of staff enquired if we needed serving. The Bloody Marys were perfect, we werent charged for the first ones because we had to wait, and the bar staff were very friendly and efficient I think they serve food as well and shall certainly return. Friendly efficient staff, warm comfortable surroundings and great cocktails , seems like it would be rude not to return !! read more
