Pan de Manila is a local bakery with lots of branches spread all over the Metro. The one where I buy my everyday pandesal is a very tiny store set in Salcedo Village, Makati. It's great to have this bakery just a walking distance from my place, because I really got addicted to their products, specially to the malunggay pandesal.
What I like about Pan de Manila is that the bread is soft, just like the "pão de sal" we use to eat in Brazil. There are other bakeries around, even more sophisticated than Pan de Manila, but the bread they offer usually have hard crusts. Sometimes I like to eat ciabattas or sourdoughs, specially when I have some nice fruit jam to pair it. But for breakfast or quick evening snacks, I prefer the soft filipino pandesal! Simple and tasty!
Pan de Manila is a must-try if you're an expat like me and want to know the local flavours. I recommend the traditional pandesal or the malunggay one - to feel very pinoy, combining two items that are part of local gastronomic identity ;) read more
