This wasn't our first rodeo buying or selling property. From our past experience, real estate…read moreagents from the most reputable companies are usually in it for the money, to quickly buy or sell your property for you. The politeness will be there initially, but as time wanes, their patience tires and they just want their commission and to move on. This time around, we opted to go with Redfin's business model of salaried employees and work with Peggy Papazaharias. From the very beginning, we couldn't have appreciated a better agent. Throughout our 1+ year of looking for a property in multiple towns 10+ miles apart, Peggy was sweet, polite and attentive. On tours of homes, she would actually help point out things in the home to watch out for and houses to downright just avoid. Most agents would try to spin things for the positive, to try and get you to buy the property. She never once lost her patience. If she was not available to tour a house with us, she would ask one of her colleagues to attend with us. We actually felt like we built a personal relationship with Peggy who we are more than willing to work with again. She made the whole process a lot smoother and pleasant. Even after we had gone in contract, she had consistently dropped us emails or text messages to see how things were going. I've seen one too many times where other agents start to lose interest once the contract was signed. If somebody wasn't responding, whether it be the seller, buyer's attorney, seller's attorney, mortgage broker, or title company; she'd try and reach out for us. We had a good idea of potential real estate brokers and title companies we wanted to work with. Rest assured, I did my homework, creating spreadsheets and spreadsheets of all the good faith estimate fees the banks/mortgage brokers and title companies charged. But once she gave us her recommendations, we wholeheartedly trusted her advice and opted to work with those companies. Long story short, if you want to skip all the legwork and research, take Peggy's recommendations. We wound up saving a very considerable amount from closing fees. Her guidance and advice throughout the process was invaluable and nothing but positive experiences. If you're looking to buy a property around Long Island, New York and are considering breaking away from working with a traditional real estate agent, I'd recommend working with Peggy from Redfin. And don't forget Redfin also refunds a portion of the commission to you that they make. That's just icing on the cake!! Peggy, many thank you's for everything that you did for us. And when it came to giving an offer she would tell us whether the price was fair and what she thinks of the sellers. She also gave us a list of inspectors and mortgage brokers to use. They were great too!! We didn't have to scramble to look for them ourselves. Caitlin was also very responsive whenever we called or emailed her. Benjamin called me back (by calling me back, he was already a step ahead of many of the brokers I contacted) and we made an appointment to meet at their office. As a side note, parking is pretty convenient - plenty of meters out front or on the nearest side street, and free on the block behind the office. When I arrived, Benjamin greeted me and we chatted for a moment, and then he indicated that Jason would be taking me to see a couple of places. I had indicated that I was on a tight schedule in regards to finding a place, and they told me they would find me something that day. Jason was friendly, warm, professional, humorous, and unbelievably helpful. I was fairly clear in my own mind what I wanted in an apartment, but, being new to New York and knowing absolutely nothing about Queens, was open in regards to what neighborhood I ended up in as well as some other factors. I have no idea how many apartments we looked at, but it seemed like a lot. Jason was respectful in regards to what I was looking for in an apartment - he even thanked me when I nixed a place based on the creepy hallway (I would have looked at it, but he was having trouble getting a hold of the super). And they were good on their promise - the last place they showed me, I liked, and I came back two days later to put in an application. Fortunately, I did not get accepted to that apartment. Jason asked whether I'd want to see studios and I said that I really didn't, but he encouraged me to take a look at this one place and he would check to see if he had anything else available. When I arrived for our second appointment, I said that I REALLY didn't want to see the studio but he encouraged me to do so anyway. I have had many great experiences with salespeople who encourage me to try something slightly different than what I was originally looking for - if they are really great at their job, they really do know what they are talking about! We arrived at the studio - in yet another neighborhood - and it had been listed incorrectly - it was a one bedroom! And it was more perfect than I could have hoped for. I applied for it right away and was accepted. Throughout the process, both Benjamin and Jason were professional, friendly and helpful. They were also great at following up, keeping their promises, and being on time. They have fee and no-fee apartments - mine had a fee, and it was worth every penny!

Days after going to contract on our new home, New York went into lock down because of Covid-19. The courts were closed, stay at home orders were in place, and we had no idea if or how anything could move forward. As soon as options were made available to legally close using virtual technology, Spano moved quickly and effectively. They were in communication with our attorney, providing clarity, direction and assurances. They were confident that we were indeed moving forward and let us know we could have complete faith that our title was secure. BAD Experience with this brokerage. One listing agent we deal with sent us a deal sheet after our…read moreoffer (buying a house) has been accepted by the seller, but the sheet was not co-signed by the seller (which the listing agent didn't conduct professionally or maybe intentionally). After we did an inspection and the seller's attorney sent the contract out, the seller backed out with another offer. We claimed that they did not treat us fairly because right before we were about to sign this original contract that they made without even changing a word, they backed out and went for another offer! Now we are asking the seller to refund us the inspection fee, and they say there is no signature you can find from the seller! What an unethical and unprofessional brokerage! Never deal with this agent (Sally McCardell) anymore!
