When you first walk into the spa portion you are greeted by calming music, dim lighting, and a water feature. All the staff was super cordial. Initially, after leaving my appointment I was very happy but I realized I was not taken seriously at all here; this place is not great. Maybe great for their current regular customer base but this place definitely doesn't cater to women of color (surprise, surprise). I had a feeling that I should've looked for another place when the stylist at my consultation kept trying to tell me other places are cheaper/trying to send me elsewhere (it's super off putting to pocket watch, don't worry about my money) but I went against my gut and scheduled an appointment anyway. Honestly, I felt like I was upcharged just for the ambiance, which was lovely, but that's not what I came for. I was hoping to find a salon that I would be able to go to regularly to keep my hair healthy but the treatment I got feels like I could've gotten it anywhere. I did get a REALLY good match to my roots but I just felt like I wasn't taken seriously. The "trim" I got shouldn't have been charged as a full haircut; she barely cut anything off (which I asked for but still, I don't understand why I paid $68 for such a minuscule trim). She also definitely didn't know how to cut my hair despite boasting the fact that her family members have a similar texture to mine. All in all, I feel like I could've just bought a box dye and plucked off the few bits she cut myself. The nail salon isn't great either, my pedicure was extremely rushed and I left with calluses still. I spent just under 350 and I really don't feel like I got my money's worth out of any of it. During our initial consult, she walked me through what she needed to do, gave me a shampoo to mitigate the damage, and reassured me that this would be fixed. I went back to Panache to have my hair colored and cut. Megan Leigh made sure my hair was properly conditioned while being colored and the cut is correct! Other salons I tried could never layer my hair right and it was always uneven and hard to style. She also put those beautiful money pieces around face and a beautiful dark smudge at roots. I moved here from Dallas and was accustomed to very good beauty care and have finally found a competitive salon. I don't pay for eyelashes or hair weaves or even gel nails. But I don't have great hair and am willing to pay good money for a style that makes the most of the hair I do have. But $96, not including a tip, for a cut and blowdry for a chin-length style? That haircut better really be outstanding. The haircut I got at Panache just wasn't. You figure that people who buy super expensive cars get high quality vehicles. You'd also figure that people who spend $96 on a cut and blowdry get a really superior haircut. In this case, you'd be wrong. There was nothing *at all* about the cut and blowdry that I got that was better than the $45 cut I got somewhere else, and it was nowhere near the quality of the cut I got for $80 with tip when I lived in Southern Florida. read more

I have been going to panache since it was located downtown next to Scarlet O'Hara's. I had a nail appointment scheduled for today at 2 o'clock. I just had to call and cancel because my car got towed yesterday and I learned that it was gonna cost $822 to fix. I called today to cancel because I realized I should not be spending my money on nails and toes. However, when I called and spoke to Pat, who answered the phone, she actually told me that I should've called yesterday when my car got towed to let them know ahead of time. Poor Customer Service. I'm dealing with a lot right now. It's nails and toes. She should put life in perspective. read more

I went to Panache after growing my hair out for 6 months. I was trying to do a short bob. Rachel was my person. that appointment great listened. did promote the products. 2nd appointment. I couldn't believe that in one cut. After months of growing it out. It was gone. talked to me more about the product than my hair. I felt like I was in a commercial. A bad one. on rope of that it was 80.00 for less than 20 minute. I paid less the first visit and even bought the hair spay. which is all hype. It doesn't hold that well. I don't like my cut. Unfortunately, I had an awful experience here this past weekend. I had a makeup consultation here last month leading up to my son's wedding which was this past weekend in St Augustine. I guess this is partly on me as I should've realized when I went for the consult that there could be issues since there was no makeup application. All she did was show me some pictures and asked me what I liked. I was in and out in 10 minutes. However, I trusted that she knew what she was doing. I couldn't be more wrong. I showed up on Saturday morning to get my makeup done for the wedding. My back was to the mirror the whole time so I couldn't tell what was going on and how much color she was putting on my face. When she turned me around, it was shocking. I thought i was either being punked or she wasn't done yet. My entire face was just stark white! That's it. Just covered in white. Not one bit of color. It was at least 2 shades off of my natural color. I looked like a ghost. It was shocking. I asked her if she was done because I was completely pale. She acted shocked that i reacted that way. She turned me around again and spent 10 seconds applying some color. Turned me around again and it pretty much looked the same. At this point I was going to be running late for my hairdresser who was waiting at the hotel and I realized it was a lost cause with this person. I was horrified with what she had done and planned on washing it off when i got the hotel and hoping my daughter or hairdresser would be able to help. I paid and left. I was embarrassed to even walk thru the lobby of my hotel. I kept my head down. I knew it was awful by the reaction i got from my daughter and hairdresser when they saw me. I knew i wasn't over reacting. They agreed this person didnt know what she was doing. My hairdresser convinced me to not wash it off though. She said it irritate my face. Thankfully my daughter has a lot of makeup. Between the two of them, they were able to fix it up so I at least looked alive! They did a good job and were able to save the day. Honestly I should've refused to pay for this disaster but i was so embarrassed by what she had done to my face I just wanted to get out of there without a commotion (she did a decent job on my eyes). Lesson learned - never do a makeup consult without an actual makeup application. read more

I received services from Megan Leigh for a balayage. She performed my balayage around a year ago and it was fine. This time, my balayage was not to my satisfaction. Brassy orange with the strand right in front of my face. I didn't take a good look until I got home and saw it close up in the mirror. The whole weekend multiple people asked me what's wrong with my hair. I reached out to the stylist and she said "I apologize, I can try to fix it. And she asked me not to contact her directly and to contact the store. I did just that. I reached out to the store and the head of customer service, Pat, called me back. I asked if the stylist felt comfortable fixing it or if she recommended someone else (the stylist herself said she would send me to someone else). Pat said she would ask and call me back. Pat called back and said only Megan would fix it. When I asked if she felt comfortable, Pat said that "no she did not feel comfortable doing it". I asked if someone else would in the salon and she said "no". So I asked her what she recommends in this situation and she said "you can find another salon. Don't come back here again". I asked if I can speak to the owner and she said the owner asked her to call me and "no". She proceeded to hang up on me in the middle of my sentence. I at least give them credit for refunding some of the charges. read more

Hugely disappointed! Been going here for 3 years getting color and highlights, then asked regular gal to darken blond from platinum to warm blonde and brought past formula. Regular gal used toner not permanent resulting in brown, ashen blonde inconsistent color! I expressed disappointment as had suggested permanent color. Returned within the week to different person and picked warm blond color hair swatch, only to result in copper not blond permanent color at no charge, so strike 2. Had to go to different salon to remedy bad color with warm blonde highlights. I honestly do not think they had right formula or were out of right color to botch color so badly! Go to a different Aveda salon! I will not go back! read more

I had a terrible experience at this salon. My sister treated me to a blow out (Wash, Dry & Style) for my birthday. The stylist I had was Phili who really needs to consider a different career path after the torture they put me through!!! We started with a wash, the massage chairs and hot towel were nice. Then we moved to her station to dry my hair which is where it went downhill. She asked how I would like it styled and I showed her a picture of curls. I had work emails to get through so wasn't paying much attention until I felt burning on my head because she doesn't know how to use a blow dryer. I would jump and said it burnt but she continued blowing the dryer and holding it for long periods of time and burning my scalp repeatedly. I have it no professional knowledge when it comes to hair but I know you should not hold a hair dryer still and directly on one spot for 15+ seconds?!? When she was what she considered finished with my hair I told her how unsatisfied I was because it looked crazy like I slept rough on my hair. She said my hair had trouble curling which makes no sense because my hair is naturally curly. It was obviously her own fault due to her poor execution. She said she could put curls in it with the curling iron but I refused and told her no because she just fried my hair for 45 minutes straight with the blow dryer. At this time I just wanted to leave since there was no redeeming my horrible experience but she then wrapped my hair around her finger and drenched it in hair spray to create a sticky weird looking curl. She finally finished and I was furious to walk out of the salon knowing my hair looks worse than when I arrived and I had my own birthday dinner to attend. It is a good thing my sister paid because I would not have paid for someone to burn me and fry my hair. I had to then go re style my hair completely with even more heat which made me even more upset. Moral of the story you get what you pay for. Spend the extra money to go to the nicer salon. My hair won't every be the same after what that child put it through. read more

The women who answered was politely rude and condescending with left me crying for an hour. This to me is very very bad business dealing. I love my stylist, Michelle R. My hair is fine and curly, and she's very good at cutting it. She doesn't pull my hair tight, so the curls remain intact (and it doesn't take a couple days for my hair to recover its style). Also, she realizes you can't cut curly hair to the desired length - you have to know how it will shorten when it dries - and she's very good at anticipating this. She checks with me beforehand and throughout. She begins our session with a minty neck and scalp rub and finishes it with her own blend of hair products. She's genuine and friendly, too. This is an Aveda salon, and the people there are trained at the Aveda academies. It makes for a stylish, consistent salon. In the past, there were times when the front desk staff's arrogant attitudes were unpleasant. However, an acknowledgment of this issue on Yelp, and a staff person's apology, tells me that this will be worked on in the future. This is a great response for a business to have when faced with negative feedback. If you have curly hair, request an appointment with Michelle R. at the Beach location. I had been to Panache a few times in the past when I was in town visiting my parents and had a positive experience BUT I was there on April 3rd with my mom and sister and had a stellar experience! Angelika gave me the BEST mani/pedi I have EVER HAD!! I've had a lot of mani/pedi's in the past 35 years and truly this one is worth writing about! Angelika was kind and attentive. Loved the hand and foot massage and I enjoyed chatting with her ! She used great products too! 10 days later and my manicure still looks great!! I've never gone 10 days without chips and peeling on a regular manicure! My pedicure looks great too! It looks like it was freshly done! However, I went in asking to get lightened and brightened (my hair is dishwater blonde and hasn't been colored in a while so it should've been easy to lift).. Okay, so I'm going to state the positives first. It's very clean, smells good, well organized, lots of hair product, and good customer service. Where they fall short is cramming 3 or 4 nail techs in this tiny little area. It's almost like they are the "stepchild" of Panache to try a make a good analogy. The ladies seemed to do a really good job, but there are very few colors to choose from, my gel dip never lasts but 2 or 3 weeks, and it is expensive. I think they are scrimping on good top coat which is what makes the gel last. I have been going to nail techs for years and my gel always lasted up to or around 30 days, although not in the st augustine area. If Panache wants to be in the business of nails, they need to do better in behalf of their techs and their customers. read more

My daughter was visiting from Cali on her college spring break. Since she's a second year nursing student she's super busy and has a hard time up-keeping her blonde locks... In desperate need of a highlight, we booked an appointment with Lindsey who had an opening Thursday. My daughter told me she felt pretty uncomfortable when she was telling Lindsey about her hair: what she was wanting, her previous experiences and Hair tragedies/mistakes plus her view on pricing as she's a college student. My daughter was texting me during her appointment with things like "she's kinda rude" and "I don't feel very welcomed. Im nervous". As a mom, that's not what I want to hear even if my kiddo is 20. Hair stylists often forget a clients hair trauma lingers for a long time. Every stylist I employed seemed insulted if a new client asked about their experience, technique or had doubts sitting in their chair. What stylists will say "yea I'm not very good with blondes?" Perhaps it's a silly question for a client to ask in general, but the stylist should take that question as a sign that the new client is nervous and not take it so personally. As the appointment went on, Lindsey became more friendly and welcoming to her. The overall outcome was good. I feel like it has the typical yellow/brass tint but there are no demarcation marks or streakiness. My daughter did leave happier than she was when she arrived and said "Lindsey was nice at the end". Stylists are human and I get they can have their off moments. I'm glad Lindsey did not damage my daughters hair or make her feel bad the entire appointment. read more
