It's a clean, modern look with friendly staff, and it has a good vibe. You grab a tray, a pair of tongs, and start picking from their many options. They've got traditional things like pineapple buns, but also different options like the sweet potato bun! Items range from $0.90 to $2.00. If you get six items, they'll drop the tax, but it's still relatively pricey for a Chinese bakery. They also have an assortment of cakes as well (past the cashier, further into the store) but I haven't tried those yet! Chicken Pie: considered one of the high end premium items ($2.00) but literally a quarter in size compared to the other premium ones. Naturally, I got it just to see what the deal was. Superb quality? Not really. Curry Beef Pie: noticeably bigger than the chicken one, and quite good, and somehow $0.40 cheaper. The pastry flakes were just right in crunchiness, and there was a decent amount of yummy, curryful meat Matcha Milk Bun: a favourite of my colleague and friend, these things are about the size of a fist - pretty big for a bun, with a distinct green shade! They look super smooth and enticing... however, I would say it looks better than it tastes - not that there's anything wrong with that, it was still decent, just not as good as that silky, smooth exterior would have your taste buds believe. If you're okay with spending a little bit more for slightly bigger, and arguably tastier Chiness buns in a clean, polished environment, this is where to go. read more

Very disappointing. We had three things and none of which were good: A) Blueberry cheesecake - no cheese and mostly cream. There was a slab of blueberry jam on there and they called it a "blueberry cheesecake"?! So pathetic. B) Durian cheesecake - first off, the cream had gone bad. If I get food poisoning tonight, it is on them. The cream/cheesecake filling or whatever they want to call it was rancid. Disgusting. There was little to no durian taste. C) Black Forest cake - lacked any flavour and was chunks of jelly in the middle. Do yourself a favour and don't ever go there. Their prices were as much as Japan town's cakes in Nakamura bakery and definitely did not taste good at all. Don't even bother. So disappointed - my dinner was quite good and unfortunately was absolutely ruined by these three pieces of cake. read more

I've heard a lot of good things about their real fruit mochis here, especially the mango ones. They're also only $1 each!! My friend's said her mango mochi was very sweet and fresh, but mine was rather bitter and sour. I'll probably give the mango mochis another try in the summer. They try to add a twist to the traditional Chinese bakery buns, but I haven't had a chance to try them yet. read more

Very pricey for an asian bakery for sure...but for occasional sugary splurges it's a good place to be. Despite saying this, the majority of their stuff don't exceed 2.00 so it's still very affordable! I don't think this bakery was intended to be like a typical asian bakery in the first place, because they don't have the typical selection you would find anywhere else. There was bbq pork buns, and that was pretty much it in terms of cliche buns. Everything else there was original and unique and very VERY yummy. They have very decadent goods like custard filled/chocolate drizzle cones or macha flavoured swiss rolls. Fruit tart: crispy moist Pastry with some custard filling topped with half a nectarine, strawberry and kiwi. Not too sweet not too dull.... mmm thinking I should've got a second one.. or third one lol Egg tart: deep tart shell with egg custard. Definitely worth the purchase! Tart was crispy and moist.. I normally don't eat/like the crust but I ate all of it! Egg custard was creamy and very fresh. Chocolate croissant: filled yet again with Custard (can u tell this is my favourite??) this Custard filling was thicker than the rest.. more like a pudding texture. Yummy, Croissant was not dry at all with chocolate drizzle over it. Mango Mochi: biggest and freshest Mochi out there topped with coconut shavings. Panash Bakery is a bakery that recently opened in the same plaza as McCowan's Congee Queen. It's definitely one of the higher end bakeries in Markham, as shown by the more upscale interior and higher prices for buns. However I do find the quality to be there, especially the BBQ pork buns and the shredded pork buns as well. Similar policies of no tax with 6 bun purchase applies here. I'm definitely putting this place high in my bakery list whenever I'm back in Markham. read more

Parking is limited - lots of patrons visiting restaurants next door. Panash has a lovely interior and clean, tidy displays. Buns are priced higher than other bakeries in the area. Quality of buns are average. Cakes on display look great though I did not buy to try. I did however buy their manga mochi, which was disappointing. The mango was unripe and sour, and the wet filling made the mochi wrapper soggy at the seams. Averaging at about $2 per bun, it's at the pricey end of Chinese bakeries. It is fancier-looking inside than most Chinese bakeries though, so I enjoyed my bun-shopping experience there. In addition to HK classics like a pineapple bun sandwiching a generous slab of butter, there's also more "fusion" flavours: a green-tinged, matcha-flavoured milk bun, custard-filled cornets next to custard-filled buns topped with some crispy bread bits, and bacon or sausage-topped buns with salad dressing (sold out for the day). Had the matcha milk bun and the cream-filled/coconut flake bun, and I'd say they're decent quality. Will probably be back to pick up more buns sometime soon. ...This is why I'm fat. *tear* read more

This is probably my favourite Chinese bakery. This bakery is in a plaza beside Congee Queen with plenty of parking spots. They have the classic Chinese buns, but also sell different styles that you wouldn't be able to find in another bakery. I've bought 2 cakes from here as well, for 2 occasions. I've tried the mango mousse cake and the blueberry mousse cheesecake. Probably one of the best cakes I've had at a Chinese bakery! The blueberry cake was amazing! Ive been reading other reviews about their cakes. I ordered mine a few days ahead, and when I picked it up, it was very fresh! So if you're looking to buy a cake, I suggest to order it ahead of time. This is my first time rate a bad review. No matter how the bread taste, it's more important the honestly and attitude of the shop. I bought 2 breads and I went to the cashier. After I paid the money (2 breads total $5.77), I saw they had a fresh new seaweed pork floss bread on the back, so I asked the cashier to get one for me, I did not realized the payment until I paid it with my debit card, I saw $8.76. I asked the cashier that I already paid the 2 breads, she explained that $8.76 is a sum up for 3 bread. When I asked her to get back the receipt, she insisted and only gave me back $8.76. Then I went back to my car and felt very weird about her attitude, I checked it on my online back account, which showed deduct $5.77+$8.76 in total $14.53. I went back to the store and lined up to ask her again, I showed her the total amount, but she believed that she did not deduct that. She asked me to wait besides, and she started serving others. I felt totally angry about her attitude. It's impossible 1 bread cost $8.76 right? Another lady came to assist, not sure if she is the manager or not, she asked me about what happen and help me to solve the problem. She is friendly and show understanding, she felt sorry about the misunderstanding. The cashier explained to her again the machine goes wrong. I believed that I told her she deducted twice, but she ignored it. The lady gave me back $5.77 by cash. I will never come back to the store again, there are many other bakeries in Markham. Panash Bakery is quite pricey compared to other Chinese bakeries out there. I think they're trying to follow the trend of Bake Code's high end bakery items. Located on Highway 7 and East of McCowan, it's on the left side of Congee Queen - parking here is sure difficult to find! The bakery is beautiful and clean and they have beautifully animal shaped bread and a bread basket located right at the store front. Most of their items are about $1.30 - except their mochi and small items. However, their buns are large, and you can tell each one was carefully done compared to the average Chinese buns that were cheaper. The mango mochi which was about $1 for one ACTUALLY had mango pieces in there - that's also how you knew it would have to be fresh, because the mango wouldn't have tasted good. Secondly, I really like their condensed milk bun and matcha milk bun. I believe this should be their specialty item ($1.30). Although there was no filling inside the bun, the bun was very large and actually baked to a great temperature. The topping is sort of like a pineapple bun's top - except it's not cooked as thoroughly, and that's why it doesn't crack at the top. If you purchase 6 items, there is no tax. However, be prepared for expensive buns. We purchased 6 items, for a total cost of $9. read more

I've been coming to Panash Bakery for a few months now and I think this is the place to warrant my very first Yelp review. Let's not talk about how ridiculously good their puff pastry egg tarts are. The melt in your mouth custard filling and the delicate, golden shell baked with just the right amount of crumbly crispness. No, we're not going to talk about how generous they are with the filling and how these ginormous egg tarts are worth every penny. We are going to talk mango. Their mango pineapple bun is so unique and unlike anything you will ever have. Huge chunks of sweet, mouthwatering mango on top of fresh cream, sandwiched in your not-so-typical pineapple bun. For under $2 this is more than satisfying. Now let's move on to the mango mochi. These are huge and STUFFED with mini chunks of mango inside. These are not like your run of the mill mochi with the thick outer layer and not much filling. But be warned: the secret's out and the mango mochi get snatched up fast. I once had a huge craving for one and they were out of stock so I had to settle for the peanut mochi. It was still good and very generous with the filling. Considering the quality and size of their mochi, they are an absolute steal at a buck a pop. Egg tarts and mango goodies aside, Panash also has a great selection of traditional style buns updated with their own unique flair (or "panash" I should say). Everything is crafted with care and you can tell they do not like to cheat their customers. Each item is carefully made with fresh ingredients. And lots of it. While at first glance their prices may seem to be on the pricier side, keep in mind this is a higher end bakery and you really will get what you pay for (and in some cases, more than what you pay for). So if you are looking for cheap, boring Chinese buns then go elsewhere. But if you want unique, inspiring treats that you won't find anywhere else then do yourself a favour and get yourself into Panash Bakery. read more

This is a Chinese bakery located in between Congee Queen and Sherman Williams paint Store. During our first visit, staff were friendly and helpful at recommending pastries. Buy 6 and it's tax free. Their mochi is $1 each. It's not the best mochi I ever had; however, it's a steal for the price and large portion. I like the matcha and peanut ones. Many have recommended mango mochi but not my favourite. I can see why they like it though; fresh chunks of mango inside. I also picked up a few chinese buns (bbq pork bun and coconut buns). They were better than some other cheap chinese bakeries but they are kinda double the price though. I will come back for some more treats next time when I am in the area read more

The spelling pedant in me wants to point out that their business' name has a typo. I think they meant Panache. Now that I have that off my chest, I can carry on with the review. I've passed by the store every time I made a visit to Oriental Gourmet or Congee Queen, but only remembered to purchase something from them yesterday. The store looks modern and clean. There are buns and pastries that you can pick on both sides of the store while the specialty cakes and pastries are behind a glass display next to the cash register. There's only one table with 4 chairs at the store but I think that's a good thing seeing as the store is quite narrow and cozy. Their specialty pastries are not too expensive as most of the individual pieces hover around $3 to $5, but I find that their buns are priced a bit on the higher end. Usually you can get buns in Scarborough for less than $1 each. I bought a chestnut napoleon and the strawberry napoleon (both $3.50) and found the pastry to be a bit damp which caused the pastry to lose its crunch and flakiness. I wished the chestnut creme had a stronger chestnut flavor because it tasted similar to the whipped cream from the strawberry napoleon. I wouldn't recommend ordering a birthday/wedding cake from Panash, but I think this bakery would do the trick if you just want a quick bite or need to stress eat. Does that make sense? read more

DON'T BUY THEIR DISPLAY CAKES! We bought a cake from here that had gone bad. When we went to bring the cake back we were told that the cake went bad because their fridge wasn't cold enough. They offered us a replacement cake but why would we want another cake when you just told us it is your own fault your cakes went bad since your fridge isn't cold enough?! They then offered us store coupons. We didn't want that either. They were very reluctant to give us a cash refund despite us saying that was what we wanted. In the end we did end up getting our refund but it took a lot of pushing before they gave us what we wanted. Buyers beware. read more

Quality is consistent, pastries are usually fresh. My favourite is the puff pasty egg tart. Filling is delicious, not too sweet and its just the right consistency (not too hard or runny). Just gotta be careful when you get stuff with mangoes in it. I've had really sour mangoes in my mochis before when they're not in season. Price point is higher than some bakeries, you'd be paying about 2 bucks on average for a bun. read more

I initially discovered this bakery when they had their soft opening. The store itself was renovated beautifully with a modern look. I was impressed with the variety and quality of the buns despite their high prices. The workers were friendly and the owner came by to greet us as well. He said they specialized in high class baked goods and their cakes were their specialty. I ended up spending about 17 dollars in 6 buns and a small tiramisu cake. The buns were delicious but I couldn't say the same with the cake.. The second time I visited the bakery, I noticed that their variety lessened and quality was lowered. They didn't have the mango mochi and the buns I brought weren't as nice looking as before. I also ordered a 2 lb cheesecake for a friend's birthday. The cake was more on the expensive side (around $50) but it was pretty good. So I decided to come again to order another birthday cake. I made sure to pre order my cakes so that they are guaranteed fresh and not display ones. Those tend to be a day old. I was extremely mad when I got home and discovered the "fresh" cake that I brought. Visually, the cake looked like a sloppy mess with the frosting on the sides cracking and smudged. When we ate the cake, I immediately knew that the cake was old because the cake tasted extremely stale. Even the chocolate tasted stale! I paid 50 dollars for old cake. I had the mango which comes with several cubed chunks of fresh mango inside, and the peanut one which is filled with very fragrant diced up peanuts. When you walk in you can smell the pastries and buns. Eveyrone was saying how good their egg tarts were so walked in to try. But honestly didnt find anything special about them and their prices are more expensive then other places. Not sure if it was from the hype and that's why expectations were set high. But honestly nothing speical and a little on the sweet side. I also ordered a chestnut roll and had it in a fridge for another day. The cream tasted sour which meant it proably went bad. To be honest I liked this place, it offers good quality of pastries n i always come here for a special drink they have. I was there finished picked up the buns and also ordered a piece of cake at the cake counter and the lady advised me to go to the counter for check out. There was line up and of course I lined up for my turn to check out. Finally it's my turn and after I put down my tray and there was a lady suddenly came from behind and stood in front of the cashier and pointed at the back of the counter, and the main cashier grab a tray from behind and confirm thats her order and continue with the check out. The cashiers at the front obviously know it was not that lady's turn but they decided to pretend everything was alright. To be honest if they have the courtesy to say "she had her order ready and we just need to check out for her". I would be okay even tho I don't think it's right. When its finally my turn, I asked the cashier "why the previous lady cut in line?". The cahsier tried to pretend didn't hear me or understood but I wouldn't let it go and asked again why she cut in line? First they just said oh she already had order ready, then I said "but what is the purpose of lining up then?" (Obviously i had my order ready at the counter too) Then the cashier tried to blame her coworker said " oh she's new she didn't know." That's the funniest answer ever. I told her this is not my first time to come here and I come here often enough to know they are not new. Even tho one of them is new, isn't lining up to be served common sense?? Further more, if your coworker is doing sth that's not right, shouldn't you correct her istead? They both went silent for few seconds as they knew they got caught and probably did not think i would speak up or i was stupid enough to not realized what just happened. Then the main cashier tried to give me some cookies for making it up i think? But i refused and said thank you. First, if they wanted to commodate their regular customer, i understand (but i dont agree) but please have the courtesy to get my permission. Otherwise have a separate cashier to serve your regular customers. Second, if you got caught for doing something it's not right, just be honest, a simple sorry could make thing much easier and simple. Giving out those kinda excuses just make things even worse. The owner (I believe he is and I talked to him before) witnessed the whole incident (yet didn'tcome over to say sorry or anything), and I hope he will seriously think about how the store should be operated in a professional manner. My daughter wants a mango cake for her birthday next week and was thinking to order from them, but i did not even have the mood to ask them as i just paid and left. today's incident absolutely made me reluctant to do so. I was really excited to see a traditional Chinese bakery open up in my neighbourhood, especially next to my family's favourite restaurant. It has only been a soft opening and I'm not sure how well they will do. I went in on Thursday night around 8pm and their shelves were still full of bread. My husband and I bought a chicken bun and a pineapple bun. It came up to $3.05. Pretty expensive, especially since it was the end of the night and they weren't offering any sort of discounts. A chicken pie was $2.00 and an egg tart for $1.30. They had boxes of prepackaged cookies for ~$10. At a Chinese bakery, these prices are pretty up there. Until they get more business, I would suggest that they offer more discounts or something in order to attract customers. At this rate, they will not last for long. However, with all that being said, we both did enjoy our buns. They were still very soft and we would likely go back if we were really having a hankering for Chinese buns and didn't want to drive further to a more well known bakery like Lucullus. read more

I checked this place out with my mom on a Saturday afternoon. This is a Chinese bakery with modern decor and higher than average prices. We got an assortment of buns and treats, which I found to be quite fresh and delicious. The service I found to be good when compared to other bakeries, that normally don't offer much "service" at all. The ladies would offer suggestions to customers and I guess because they are new, they were giving out samples of cookies and treats as well. There really isn't a place to sit and eat save for a round table with 4 chairs, so this is really a buy and go type of place. In addition to buns and typical Chinese bakery fare, they also have a wall of packaged cookies and you can also order cakes. You can also get a glimpse to their kitchen from the store front. Overall, I would recommend Panash. The food is fresh and good, the place is clean but expect to pay a premium. read more

I used to believe that only real divey looking bakeries located in skeevy neighbourhoods had amazing Chinese pastries. Well, I've been proven wrong. When you walk into this place you will see the French modern decor and high tech pastry dispensers and displays that are just too pretty and perfect. Well, the decor does justice. The pastries are beautifully done and taste light, fluffy and heavenly. These are not your usual pineapple buns. They are perfectly topped with right amount of texture and crunch with a fluffy, slightly chewy middle. Not too sweet and not bready and bland. The most notable bun is the coconut breaded cream cheese bun...run, don't walk to get these and don't eat them right away. Take them home, fire up your toaster oven and lightly toast them, then, I challenge you not to roll your eyes back in your head as you taste the sinful carb-loading, refined white pastry as it melts in your mouth. A solid Chinese bakery in my area. I don't usually get buns other than the pineapple bun as well as the BBQ pork pastry. Both were delicious. Their walnut cookies are also good (I had it to try) but I didn't end up buying it as it came in a really big box which I wouldn't be able to finish. I did see the green tea mochi ball and ended up picking one up. It was not the greatest.. basically just a plain mochi ball powdered with bitter matcha powder with cream cheese filling. Other than that I like how its very clean inside and their hours are until 8:30pm. It's hard to find bakeries open that late! read more
