I probably will never be back here again. Service is extremely slow and we were not in at a busy time. The food was average, presentation of the food is not great either and don't get me started on the prices. $4 for a coffee that I only got 1 small cup of. I highly recommend going to any other breakfast restaurant even if it's McDonald's. And $6 for 3 turkey sausage links. Better off literally going anywhere else. I have been here so many times now, and this is probably my favorite breakfast joint in town. Nothing fancy, but there always seems to be a table and there's a nice selection of breakfast items to choose from, sweet and savory. I like the raspberry and blackberry crepes, which are a bit unusual and not on every typical breakfast place's menu. Service is always quick and friendly. I got the bacon and eggs, two kids meals, coffee and a side of sausage. $56+ for the entire meal. I've been to many breakfast places, and this one was the worst Ive ever been to, inside and outside of Illinois. Staff were super friendly. The meal quality was absolutely awful though. The sausage was small, dry, and worse than what you can make at home. The pancakes were dry, pasty, and had absolutely no taste. The eggs were mush. They forgot my hash browns with my meal, but I didnt even bother asking for it because I knew it would taste the same as the rest of the meal. My kids usually kill their breakfast but they hardly touched their food. I was absolutely shocked at how bad the food was; I left my entire plate basically uneaten. Go elsewhere if you're looking for a quality meal for the price! You can get something much better elsewhere in Naperville. read more

Everyone stared at my black family as we entered into the establishment as if there was a "whites only" sign on the door. The waitresses proceeded to suggest that the food we were ordering was "too expensive" or might go "over our budget". We received dirty spoons & forks, so we asked for plastic silverware from another waitress nearby , she proceeded to slam them on the table. I will never eat here again. A ma-and-pop place with generations of history in its workings! I have visited twice and for each visit, we ordered the big club sandwich which stands about a foot tall with stacks of sourdough bread, turkey, bacon, arugula, cheese, and tomato. It is the perfect combination for a satisfying sandwich that is meant for sharing. I especially love how they substituted lettuce with fresh arugula. The bacon slabs are also not to be undermined. They are thick and drenched in a a sticky maple syrup without being too heavy. We would usually have it with a side of curly fries which are fried with perfection. Some of other items that we tried are the omelette, Belgian waffle, fish and chips, and pork, three-way sandwich. With the omelette, we had it with egg white, mushrooms, and jalapeno cheese. It was a very health-conscious, light, and fluffy choice. The Belgian waffle was standard with strawberries and whipped cream served to the side. The fish and chips are generous and well-fried, served with a huge portion of french fries. The pork, three-way sandwich was a big surprise. It was heavy but the slow-roasted pork was made in the house, being especially juicy and tender. The toasted sandwich was also stacked with thick slices of bacon and pulled pork. I'm a big fan of Pancake Cafe! This family-owned spot is a fantastic place to grab some breakfast at a decent price. It's easy to get a table, service is friendly as can be, and the menu has a lot to offer. The owners are super nice and the lady that has seated us the last couple time I've been in is super sweet. You can tell they have a lot of regulars here. I was there today with my husband and it seems as though Pancake Cafe has gotten a face lift! The decor when you first walk in is super cute with rustic looking farm to table decorations on the wall. The whole restaurant just feels brighter and cleaner than it did in the past. Everything I've had here is really good. Today I ordered the Cafe ($9.95) which came with two eggs, two sausage links, one bacon slice, one French toast slice, and hash browns. I appreciated that the bacon was thick and the hash browns were crispy. The french toast was awesome and reminded me of the homemade french toast breakfasts my grandma used to make growing up. To round out my meal I ordered a coffee and our server was quick to refill when needed. Pro tip: Check out the signage on the table! My husband and I totally missed the power breakfast specials and other specials they have to offer. A lot of the items sounded really good, so I'll have to keep that in mind for next time. Food is fantastic. Frank and his team work hard at changing recipes up in both quality and appearance. I also want to note that their to go menu is great as well. Additionally, on a personal note... Since prior to Covid my father's health has been deteriorating and they eat there every day with minimal exceptions. Frank, and his whole family have taken such good care of them (as well as their friends who are now patrons). He is known to adjust the menu here and there to accommodate my father's restrictions. The service is exceptional and their staff takes the time to be personable with the patrons as well as stay on their toes as servers. They have not only mastered the art of beating the pandemic, but have also reinvented the business to serve hot lunches for local schools. I love their food, the people and the way they work so hard to try and make everyone's experiences there memorable. A must go! read more

I went there yesterday morning and I was greeted by the door and the young lady asked how many people and I said One and she asked for my name because I had to wait until I was called and the best part it did not take long at all. So the host took me to my table and the woman that was taking my order she was great, she asked me what I would like to drink and I said coffee please and she offered me half and half and I said yes please and thank you. So that gave me time to figure what I want and there there was Chocolate chip pancakes. So she came back with my coffee and asked if I was ready to order and I said yes and I told her I would like to have chocolate chip pancakes please and a side of sausage patties. So when I got my food it looked amazing and it tasted amazing as well. When I was done I tipped my waitress and then paid my bill upfront. Not sure if this place has fallen on tough times or changed ownership or both but it has slipped down the proverbial slope. Once a highly sought after seat on a busy weekend seemed quite quiet on a Sunday at 10:30 and I know why! The food just is no where near as good as it once was. Their namesake Pancakes were awful, cold and not fluffy at all. Coffee is still one reason to go. Club sandwich with cold pressed meat not fresh made although they allegedly make corned beef and pastrami in house. How hard is a turkey breast and ham? At 12.95 one expects more and what they call French fries are curly and not crispy so they not call them curly fries. The price is still a bit lumpy compared to other family run diners in the area! Unfortunately this is the second consecutive time we were disappointed and we will not be back. Life is too short for bad food. Additionally the bathrooms stunk and were not clean and the booths are like sitting on a bus bench. All could be overlooked if the food was better, desirable and priced accordingly. read more

Kids chocolate chip pancakes were 12 per plate due to drinks and chocolate extra (posted price for kids meals are6.50. We were told about the chocolate being extra). Normally for breakfast my family of five runs about 40 before tip, this place was over 60 for two kids meals, a sausage omelet, hash and eggs, And drinks (just coffee and juice). Tldr no bng till October.  Good pancakes with an order large enough to split.  Sausage patties were also solid  A modern American brunch restaurant in the south west burbs, is rather large and looks to be able to handle quite the crowd. The coffee was wild horse creek, which is a st Louis roaster, Cubs fans beware!  Also side note for anyone who searches Cubs for places to watch the game, like I do, No TVs.  The coffee was very good.  The setup earned my extra star by having a full sugar bowl and bringing fresh cream out to the table rather than that prepackaged stuff which is just a waste flavor wise as well as environmental. The staff was bright and welcoming.  Not overly engaging, but still very pleasant.  Seems like a local family run place.  It seems to have been here for 10 + years. I came for the biscuits and gravy and was devastated to find out they only start serving this after October! I instead opted for the cherry pancakes with a side of sausage patties.  There was at least 10 minutes cook time, which is a plus for me that stuff is getting cooked to order and not just assembly lined.  The pancakes came out as 6 medium sized cakes stacked in a semi circular.  They were on the right side of above average.  Medium rise in the cake and golden brown. I was referred here by the car dealer down the road. The service tech said "If you like good bacon, you'll love this place.". He was correct. But not only was the bacon excellent, I also had an egg & chesse omelette, great, and my wife had a great salad but the service was down right pleasant. I have gone here for the past 18 years and have never once been disappointed. I see posts about the workers being biased but I strongly disagree. I could name every long time employee and I have never felt that from anyone. I come nearly every weekend and have always loved anything I order. The workers accommodate for my grandfather and have really built strong relationships with their regulars. Went here for lunch on a whim the other day as my family and I were in the area. Service was fine, but the food? Terrible. For what we ordered and how much we spent, definitely overpriced. My husband ordered the battered fish sandwich ($12) which was made with what were clearly frozen fish fillets, exactly the kind you can get at the grocery store--think Van de Kamp's brand. It came with a choice of side, and he decided on kettle chips. The chips came in a sealed bag on the plate, again the kind you can get from a grocery store variety pack or vending machine...you think they would, at the very least, serve the chips on the plate proper but I figure that's too much to ask. And $12 for that? Yikes. We've never been served a bag of potato chips on a plate at a restaurant before, lol. I ordered the Navy Pier melt ($11), which was supposed to be a tuna melt but the cheese was barely melted, and the bread was only toasted, i.e., not really a tuna melt. It also came with a side, and I chose the potato salad. It was ok, but was literally served maybe two tablespoons worth. Disappointing. My son got the spinach crepes ($10). Standard, but the hollandaise sauce the crepes were topped with was really runny, almost like water. The potato pancakes that came with them were super thin and lukewarm, and were lacking flavor. We also ordered two cups of decaf coffee adding another $6 to the bill. Total was around ~$40, not including tip. What a rip off. Server was nice and the terrible food came out of the kitchen fast though (which explains a lot), so that's worth half a star I suppose. If I could, that's all I'd rate this place, but 1 star is the minimum. Oh well. Won't be going back ever as there are MUCH better breakfast/lunch spots around my area. read more

First time here and we are big fans! We just started taking my 11 month out for breakfast and we decided to try this place on our way to Target. The waitress brought my daughter a bowl of cut up banana, which was super kind. Food was excellent as well. My mom had the crepes and I had the Boston Creme French toast. This place is one of our "go-to" breakfast restaurants when we want a good traditional breakfast. The food is always fresh and GOOD. The pancakes are always good and fluffy. The bacon is wonderful......crispy and thick, like it's supposed to be! The hashbrowns are yummy as well. Who serves a Waffle with the same consistency as a pancake? This place does. By the time it arrived, the bottom was a soft mess when I flipped it over. Parents were treating and didn't want to reorder, so I ate the less than palatable meal. I'll pass the next time they offer and they only have time to stop in here. The food has always been good here. Great pancakes, delicious crepes, and big omelets. It can often be to crowded on a Sunday after church, but we just dropped in for a big family breakfast at 9:00 am on a Monday (after rush hour) & the place was enmity. The owners waited on our table and cooked our food, which was delicious. We had 7 people eating, and not one dissatisfied customer. I had the cinnamon roll pancakes special, which was awesome. You need a sweet tooth for this dish, but if you have one, prepare to chow down. I usually have the banana crepes (with banana apricot sauce), which are great, but am glad I saw the specials board today. read more

I always need a nap after. The best bacon, absolutely the best.. so thick it's almost a slab. Yummy! It's pricey for a breakfast place, atmosphere is ok and the staff is pretty attentive. (we've been there many, many times) Good coffee, great eggs, omelets, french toast and pancakes (my son likes the massive German Pancake) very good hash browns. Did I mention the awesome BACON? I admittedly have a huge soft spot for this family owned and run breakfast/brunch spot. My family and I have been long time patrons since I was a young lad, and I feel like my experiences here have greatly influenced my standard in breakfast/brunch cuisine. Now that I live in Chicago, I make it a mission every time that I visit my stomping grounds to enjoy a nice breakfast (with family). And I can honestly say, in all my many years of visiting, I have been quite surprised at the consistency at which Pancake Cafe is able to produce. And while the flash and thrill of Chicago brunch joints have hit the scene with creative offerings, I still measure up the quality and execution to the standard that is created at Pancake Cafe. And while the pricing (which I've seen many people here complain about), is definitely above average for suburban fares... they are pretty much price well below average for quality breakfast/brunch offerings for someone from the city. I think the food is well worth the price. Omelettes - The omelettes that are served here are incredibly fluffy and I believe are oven baked. I have yet to experience a similar preparation anywhere else, so it maybe something that is hit or miss for some people. I enjoy it immensely, and used to constantly get the Western "ham/peppers/onions" (easy on the cheddar cheese). It comes with some delicious hash browns that are stringy and browned perfectly on both sides. A more unique offering would be their mushroom omelette that comes with a mushroom sauce side. The side is quite heavy and probably should be used more as a dipping sauce. Pancakes - The namesake of the restaurant is probably not what you think. While they do serve conventional pancakes, the star (and most likely namesake) belong to both the Baked Apple Pancake and the German Pancake. Both of these require a long wait for preparation, so bring some interesting friends and enjoy a long conversation with coffee (or you can call ahead like a smart person). The wait is well worth it. While the Apple Pancake is a bit rich for my tastes, the German pancake is both light and fragrant. I love squeezing a bit of lemon over the gently applied powered sugar pancake to give it refreshing touch. Both these offerings are massive, and definitely should be shared. Sandwiches - I have recently been experimenting with the sandwiches here after a heavy recommendation from the staff. The sandwiches are fantastic and HUGE. To the point where there is no chance in finishing the full meal. The turkey club and the pastrami sandwich are my personal favorites and I'm glad that they have been recently added to the menu to keep things fresh. However, I would say I'm not a big fan of their fries. Much rather have these sandwiches with a side of hash browns. Overall, I'm a huge fan and always have been. While I have adventured in the many brunch places Chicago has to offer, I still have a huge soft spot for this place. The food is well prepared, and the staff and family have been incredible hosts every time I've been. The menu is constantly changing with new specials that I look forward to whenever I'm feeling adventurous.
