We've been here before and the food is always top tier! I had the caramelized bread pudding French toast--absolutely amazing with the perfect balance of sweet and rich. Everyone at our table loved their meals, especially the belly buster biscuits, which were soft, fluffy, and full of flavor. We also shared the doughnuts for the table, and they were a huge hit--warm, fresh, and even better with the butter! The juices were all fresh and delicious too. Came here with a group of 7. Weird because they placed us right next to another larger group when there was room elsewhere. Service was pretty good. The snickerdoodle chai tea latte was very good. If you are hungry this is the place for you. Come with your appetite. The portions are extremely large. In addition to large portions there is always a long wait on the weekends but it's worth the wait. The specialty pancakes are so heavenly and fluffy. This place doesn't disappoint. A great breakfast, & lunch spot bringing Chicago's inner city vibes to the southwest suburbs! Southern Belle's had wide variety menu with plenty of delicious sounding foods so much so that it was very hard to decide on what to choose. My girlfriend & I had a great experience with the breakfast choices we landed on. The skillets are HUGE, & the pancakes not only looked beautiful, but tasted so as well. I really enjoyed the staff, & how effective they all were with their efforts for great service, the people eating here were all welcoming, & friendly too! The prices are mid range, some could find them quite high. However I promise the amount of food you pay for will not disappoint. Expect to ask for to go boxes! If you are a breakfast lover, or are just looking for a lovely place to enjoy in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. This place is a great pick. We tried Southern Belle's for the first time this week and ended up being a little disappointing. To start, the coffee was weak, which isn't great for a breakfast place. For my entree, I got the Southern Belle skillet that was really plain and lacked flavor, making it underwhelming for the price. Speaking of price, the food here feels too expensive for what you get. It was so expensive and just lackluster. My mom got the waffle special which was a bit better priced and at least that was standard.There were a few positives. The donuts were good, and the kids' menu offers a generous amount of food. The chocolate chip pancakes were standard, nothing special but decent for kids. The service was nice, which helped, but the atmosphere was a bit mixed--the decor was rustic, but some booths and tables were run down, which took away from the overall look. I think I would skip Southern Belle's for your breakfast outing as there are other options with more to offer. read more

Very disappointed at today's visit 5/26/24. It seems as though Sunday is their busiest day and if that's the case then they should know how to accommodate their guests when things are out of control. We came in at 10:35a and waited 30-40 mins to be seated. Once we got seated it took our waitress 15 minutes to make it back to our table which gave us enough time to figure out what we wanted to eat. Yall, it took an ADDITIONAL hour to get the food we ordered. There were at least 5 tables ahead of us that also waited long for food. I would have felt better if the hostesses told us how long the wait for food was on top of being seated. We could have went to another establishment but NO. Plus all of the hostesses were young and looked clueless so that didn't help. I asked waitress will the owners take something off the bill for the inconvenience and she said probably not because everyone had to wait which is a ridiculous answer. They could have gave us complimentary fruit to eat while we waited but were offered anything but water and several apologies. We ended up leaving around 12:30p. TWELVE THIRTY! Skip the biscuits, they're terrible. Their chicken & dumpling soup is probably my favorite menu item; it's only available one day each week. My kids love their pork belly, bacon, and pancakes, especially the chocolate chip pancakes. What they do well is good, but what they do poorly (like biscuits) is really awful. I had the pork belly dish. To die for! My husband had the corned beef hash skillet. It was not only delicious, but it had its own biscuit the size of a baby's head, which was also delicious. In a very encouraging move, it seems the Chef at SB's has taken a Cajun turn, and if our visit today is any indication, this is a very very good thing. With the closure of The Heaven On Seven in Naperville, and the recent shuttering of the Cajun Connection in Utica, there aren't many places in the western burbs to get a decent Cajun meal. Now Southern Belle's isn't an analog for those sadly departed mainstays (just yet). It's nominally a Breakfast/Lunch joint-and an extremely good one at that (see my previous Yelps below). The regular menu stuff is a cut above the norm, but it's the new stuff I'll speak of. On the specials list is a thing called "Gumbo-Laya". Names like this usually raise my antennae something disappointing will arrive at the table, but not today, not here. What came was a brobdingnagian portion of spicy cajun goodness. Festooned with a handful of scallions (how did they know this is a fave of mine) the dish is chock full of shrimps, sausage, chicken, and other veggies. Rice, too, but not too much. It was lighter in color than a trad Gumbo, surprising for the feisty picante kick presented. I'm thinking the heat was from black and white pepper, 'cos the flavor was very "Paul Prodhomme"; and big Paul's signature was always a mix of White, Black and Cayenne Pepper. I wished I had a nice cold Chardonnay to wash it down, but the fine throw of their Diet Coke served wonderfully. This isn't regular coffee shop fare. Someone in that kitchen knows what the hell they are doing. And what they are doing is cooking, for real. A look at the menu saw a few other Cajun or Cajun-type dishes. I asked our waitress if the (boss) read Yelps and she said yes indeed. So here is a little fable for consideration. A long time ago there was a Coffee Shop in the Loop called the Garland Building Restaurant. The Owner's Son (Jimmy Bannos) was the Chef, and after a visit to New Orleans, he started to add Cajun dishes to the menu. (You had to ask for the auxiliary menu to see these). Jimmy executed these dishes extremely well, and before long, no one was ordering regular stuff off the regular menu. A Legend was born. If the Southern Belle's kitchen can produce a divine dish like this "Gumbo-Laya", I'll bet they can turn a trick or two with other Cajun specialties. Wishful thinking on my part, but if all they muster is the current fare, I'm still gonna be there. In other news-My Wife likes her hashbrowns well done-close to charred, Mr. Ripley! Shannon our waitress suggested "deep-fried" Hashies. EUREKA! I'm not normally a potato guy, but those spuds were totally fab! Throwing 5 for a fine feed. Great spot for a leisurely breakfast/brunch/lunch. Many good options on the menu. We ordered the Southern Belle Skillet, Cobbler crepe, and Bo-nuts. Bonuts came out hot and fresh. The blueberry marzipan pairs excellent with the bonuts. The southern belle skillet is huge and delicious. The cobbler crepe was just ok. Their crepes are thicker than regular crepes. I prefer to have thinner crepes and have them filled rather than them folded and everything put on top. Service is friendly, and not fast, perfect for a leisurely meal. read more

We were brought waters and we had a chance to look at their very impressive menu. So many choices. I went with the skirt steak skillet. My 9 year old and I decided to split this and get a side of fruit. It took me a while to decide what to get so when our server came to us I was still undecided. We were her only outside table and it took her a while to get back to us. No big deal. Food took a while to come to our table. When it finally was brought to us I was a bit confused. My skillet had this weird looking thing that took up half of the plate. Well, I failed to read that my skillet came with a complimentary biscuit. They could have kept that biscuit. It was the driest biscuit I've ever had and it was hard. I attempted to eat it using the fruity spreads that came with our toast. Spread was good but biscuit was awful. Here I had this huge biscuit and my skillet was this tiny portion. For a $21 skillet I was extremely disappointed. The skillet did have some big pieces of steak but I would have rather gotten more hash browns than that nasty biscuit. Skillet was supposed to have mushrooms, green peppers and onions and topped with cheese. All of that was pretty much not existent. I ate my eggs, some of the steak pieces and my side of fruit. I was not satisfied with my meal at all. My water was never refilled, our server did not really check on us. She asked if I wanted a box, that was a big No, thank you. I would not come back here, I would not recommend it. Very expensive for the portions and the food quality was not good. First time ordering and forced to order online. After holding for 18 mins. First issue, the app allows you to order a side for $1.75 to a kids meal. Upon arrival the location told me "I should not have access to that button" and it's $4.46. And I had to pay the difference. I must admit I was a bit shocked. Perhaps more of a "hey, the app had incorrect pricing that were correcting however, moving forward the pricing is $$$". Naturally I disagree. At this point my pick up is running 30 minutes behind and nothing regarding the delay. Simple empathy allows customers to feel their inconvenience is recognized. Anywho, food was finished and I head home. I was given 1 sausage instead of the actual side. This was not apart of the conversation... Lastly, skillets come with either pancakes or toast. We selected pancakes. Guess what? No pancakes.. I really enjoyed this restaurant when they had the Owesgo location. So this was a completely bummer. The food here definitely stands out from your standard breakfast spot for a few reasons. First, it seemed like our food took quite some time to come up, but this gave us a much more relaxed meal than a lot of breakfast joints offer, when usually it's all about the turnover. This implies things air more on the side of "made to order", while most breakfast spots prep as much as possible so it can be thrown together quickly. I also believe this has to do with the vast menu full of dishes unique to one another. Most suburban breakfast diners just offer the same few dishes in different forms. (I.e. denver omelet, denver skillet, denver benedict, etc.) I was not impressed with their "safety measures" for covid. Staff did not wear gloves and many of the staff's mask were worn incorrectly. Capacity is not being limited in any way. Tables are packed tightly and nearly every spot was full. They have not even put up plastic dividers between booths, which has become commonplace and even expected in this type of establishments. Plus, we had a party of 7 and expected to have to split up as most places are capping party sizes at 6 right now. We were seated at a table for 8 no problem. This was obviously nice for our group, but it raised a flag nonetheless. They did offer outdoor dining which looked pretty "impromptu" like maybe they didn't always offer that, but I visited out of town and can't be sure. I also wasn't thrilled by the service. Our server wasn't rude, but seemed plainly disinterested, like she was too busy for a group our size. She forgot about my drink (which was made at the bar. everyone else's came from the fountain or kitchen). It sat on the bar for so long that eventually we grabbed it ourselves. I don't normally do that because it could be another server's table & I don't want mess them up. But she didn't return to the table for me ask about it for so long that by the time we did decide to grab it ourselves, it was warm and thick. The next time she came by, she looked at it in front of me and address it. When she dropped our food, one dish didn't come out with the rest like maybe it was put in later than the rest, and she forgot 2 sides. Finally, when it was time to pay, we asked to split the bill by couples. Admittedly, we should have told her at the start of the meal that we would want to do this, but she visibly and audibly groaned, then came back with the full bill on one check to go through it and tell her what we each had. Doing so didn't bug us, but she made us feel like such an inconvenience that we ended up putting it all on one card. Overall, I'll only dock one star because the server could e been having an off day and despite the lack of safety measures, we all still willingly chose to eat there. I prefer the Southern Belles in Plainfield, but overall, I love this restaurant. It's probably my favorite breakfast place. I ordered their garden skillet with egg whites and it was delicious. The Service came over. Her name was Shannon. She was very, delightful, pleasant, and professional. As well as outgoing and on point, . Our orders were ham egg and cheese sandwiches on toast with the side of grits and Mamosa. This breakfast sandwich was hard enough for a lumberjack, yet fluffy & delightful enough for a Chef with a big appetite. I prepare my own food with a lot of care and this sandwich had me at first sight & at first bite. The mimosa was made just right. My business associate is picky and she loved it. This particular day & time. The grits weren't quite, where they should've been for a high score . But I'm willing to bet next time they will be. Well...... My wife and I went here when they opened a couple of times and were very disappointed so I haven't been back in a very long time. This morning I had business nearby and my Son and I decided to try it again. $47.00+ for undercooked eggs, WAY overcooked country fried steak and bland gravy. I will say the service was great though. Some people ask why wouldn't you send your food back. I've done that before and not only does it create tension but it feels like the restaurant thinks it's me, an unreasonable customer, and not the food. My son ate his eggs but couldn't stomach eating more than about 1/3 of his "steak" because he said the undercooked eggs made his stomach feel sick. He asked me how a restaurant can stay in business like this. I don't know. Maybe the people who eat there can't cook either and are used to lower quality food so it seems normal... ?? I think I'm pretty fair with my reviews and hate to say it but if the service wasn't as good as it was I'd have only given a one star rating. I think the owner has a responsibility to eat the food they serve so they know what they're giving their customers. We have enjoyed this Yorkville location for 5 years , and the service/food has been good; however, since the menu was updated, prices have increased dramatically (i.e., charging $3.29 for two pieces of toast or $3.79 for a cup of coffee or even a whopping $5.49 for three strips of bacon that are thinner than those previously provided). On top of that, there is a credit card charge of 2%! C'mon owners. This is Yorkville, not downtown Chicago! Sorry to say that we won't be retuning as often. read more

Very first time here definitely recommend!! My husband and I have passed this place so many times and today we finally came. We were greeted and sat right away. Waters came instantly and then followed by coffee. Place is very clean and the water I'm pretty sure was purified tasted so good. My plate was amazing I had the whipped feta on panini toast with tomato scrambled eggs and balsamic glaze it normally comes with arugula and poached eggs. Has the perfect amount of spice. My husband had the Irishman skillet. The corned beef was delicious the hash browns could have been cooked more and the biscuit was too dry. The toast was served with fresh whipped butter and homemade jelly sooo good. What really sold us and will bring me back is our server Michelle. Super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I literally only ordered from this restaurant because it is so good, but my belly buster came without pork belly and unfortunately i don't think I can support a business that advertises their dish one way, then serves it incomplete. The food is great but if I had known I wouldn't get pork belly than I would have taken my hard earned money elsewhere. Again the food is amazing, but the dish I ordered came incorrectly and I can't legitimately determine if it was the delivery guy or if it was southern belles. I called and asked what is in the Belly buster, and asked why mine didn't have pork belly and it was claimed that the pork belly is chopped up, however when I came in person it had a slice of pork belly. read more

my brother got there at 950 I got there at 1010 we weren't seated till 11:47 and then we had to wait another 48 minutes just to get our food timed everything on my phone. the server was great but the service on time and attention to detail was absolutely terrible my sister in-law is vegan due to health issues and we ordered a vegetarian skillet for her and the had a bunch of meat on the bottom of the skillet! i get that it can get busy but the wait and the amount of fuck ups really made it a terrible breakfast. we waited almost 2 hours to eat food that they fucked up.
