Oh Panchitos how I love my ice cream. This place would be a five star if the ice cream actually tasted good. The vanilla ice cream is pee colored. It makes me think about that stupid little book about Daniel peeing in the snow, I hated that book. My kids loved for me to read them that stupid sad excuse of a publication. This place reminds of that horrible period of my life. Anyways the atmosphere of this place is quite amazing some would say. They took my order really quickly. And they did so accurately. I really liked this location right beside coxs smoker outlet so I bought 2 packs of Marlboro NXTs and a 12 pack of Busch lite afterwards. The NXTs and my vanilla ice cream tasted good together. I had never had Mexican ice cream before so Panchito's was a unique experience for me. It was pretty busy when we walked in, so it seems like this place has some hype to it. The first thing I did notice was that the inside had a horrid smell to it, but I think it was from the different scents of food/toppings from behind the counter. They do have some pretty cool things to choose from, like fruit and ice cream combinations. I just stuck with mango ice cream. The mango flavor was soo fresh and flavorful, it tasted like it was pure from the fruit itself. We sat outside, since the inside was already full, and the tables were covered with bugs. I understand that it's hard to avoid this problem in the summer time, but I did not enjoy having things crawl all over me while eating. It's not really my ice cream joint of choice but it's not bad. I'm American but know enough Spanish to order and to speak with customers at my place of employment. The fruit and granola i got was advertised to come with ice cream and it didn't. The Dorilokos i wanted to love but i threw it away after a few bites. It was sooo overloaded with cueritos i just couldn't get past it. The fruit wasn't in season, so it was gross. This place was on my list of places to try. However, I kept putting it off until last week. The place did not disappoint me at all. In fact, I love it. How can you not love it when the ice-cream is bigger than your head and only costs $10? The place is small but colorful and clean. My server doesn't speak English so we had to use the app to communicate. However, she was supper nice and let me try anything before she put it on. The picture helps also. They have so many traditional and exotic ice-cream flavors that will satisfy even the pickiest eater. I got the Piña Loka with soursop (guanabana) ice-cream. The server hollowed out half of the pineapple and overflowed it with tons of fruits. You can chose any ice-cream flavor to go on top. She then top it off with this red sauce, some chili, a bag of peanuts,and two straws of tamarind candies. If you're a big fan of fresh fruits, this dish will not disappoint you. Oh, did I mention that you might need a buddy to share it with because it's gigantic? My friend got the banana split, which is also huge. A small place that is easy to drive past but definitely a hidden gem. If you are walking in the area or looking for a nice spot to grab some food on the go or sit inside and get some nice ice cream this is the place to come to. Not that many people staffed but they were working hard and efficiently and knocking the orders out when it went from 3 people to 15. I was only able to get tacos on my first ever visit to Panchitos. I had the Carne Asada, Carnitas, and Birria Tacos. Nothing really stood out but the tacos were pretty split. After having Mexican ice cream in Memphis and longing for it ever since I was elated I found this 'lil gem. The service was great, offering samples if you had no clue what you wanted (which I did not). They have ice cream, sorbet, tons of toppings, and different creations that you can choose from. I ended up getting a Vampiro. This comes with chili powder, any sorbet of your choice (I had yellow cherry), lots of fruit (mango, jicama, strawberries, and pineapple) topped with a sweet/sour sauce and more chilli powder and a cute little candied straw all for $5. Don't let it fool you, this unpretentious building holds some of the freshest tasting ice cream I've ever had. We just spent a boiling two hours at Churchill Downs and needed something to cool off on our way South. We Yelp searched, and this gem popped up. I wish I had taken a photo, but it was gone too quickly. We ordered a dish of strawberry, popsicles of pina colada and vanilla (don't worry, the orange color is from the natural and delicious vanilla bean they use). There were other exotic flavors too. WILL NEVER SPEND MONEY HERE AGAIN AFTER TODAY! I have went to this place a few times in the past year, their customer services always seems very basic, but decent. But today when I thought to stop by as I was out and about. I went into the location with my wife. As we walked in, I see a young male cashier and a middle age female standing by the cash register, and noticed we were the only customers in the business. I than looked over at both of the staff as the female played on her phone and the male would not even look up at us. I wait and waited, as I think how rude they are. My wife walked in front of me to look at the menu, giving the female and male staff many signs we would like to place an order. As I look at my wife looking at the menu. I took one last look at the staff and still received not one morsel service. I than stated I want nothing here, lets go. They are intentionally rude. The staff at this business were colder than their ice cream, showed not one morsel of kindness or customer service. And were being boldly upfront with their rudeness. As I stated from the start, I have been here a few times and their service is low decent. Me and my wife are "black". And it seems like a hint of hatred is at this business for "blacks". Or they just simply are rude and boldly not interested in good service. I left and went to A&W about a minute away. Service was pleasant and welcoming. Nothing over fake, just a simple hi, have a good day, enjoy... Either this place dose not care for "blacks" going to their business or they simply are horrible at customer service and hate their jobs and make it clear! And it is getting worse! I will not spend another 1.00 with this company again! And I suggest others do the same. No matter if a product is great or decent... the foundation of any product is the quality of their customer service! Panchito's Ice Cream offers a couple dozen Popsicle flavors along with some unique ice cream and fruit medley creations. Located in an odd layout of a lot on Preston Hwy, it shares a corner lot space with a few other business. Despite the layout, I've never not been able to find a parking space. I'm occasionally in Okolona but because of the high amount of businesses located in this area, I usually miss many of the signs that I drive by. Thanks to the power of Yelp though, I came across a review on this place one day and was excited to see that Louisville had a place like this. Having lived in California for so long, places offering Aguas Frescas, Paletas, and Helados Con Chile exist in high numbers. Heck, you don't even have to drive to the business; there are enough street vendors that offer this that may walk by your home. I got so spoiled with having that so easy accessible that I didn't realize how much I missed it until family would mention Mexican ice cream creations. Ice cream flavors that range from fruity sorbet to rich milk chewy nutty flavors. Paletas that range from "normal" to extreme such as the Tequila flavored Pop. Mexican ice cream creations that include combining your choice of ice cream flavor with fruit, and perhaps chili powder and topped with a stick of Tamarind Chili candy. Get creative with the combinations and though the mixture of ice cream, fruit, and chili sound odd, don't knock it till you try it. Service at Panchitos is friendly with a large group of bilingual employees working there. I feel I need to mention that as I often see frustrated reviews mentioning not being able to order or ask questions about items because employees don't speak English. There sometimes is a large crowd but even in a line of 30 people, the line moves quickly. I wish this place was bigger for moments when there are large crowds though. Thee are only a few tables inside and they are large family size tables that take up large space. Replacing these with round tables and adding some outside would really improve the experience as I often have to take my paletas or ice cream home due to lack of a place to sit down and enjoy it. I have always enjoyed my ice cream creations but there have been a couple times where the mango fruit has been a bit more on the hard side instead of juicy as I prefer it. So perhaps do a more consistent job in picking out the fruit? Other than that, this place is great and I really look forward to continuing to visit this place especially this hot summer! read more
