This place is a real delight, they are good at what they do. Sometimes you find things that are missing in your life. Glad I finally tried this place out. This place has good options galore - hot food, desserts, and more. The menu options are so plentiful you are better off deciding before you come here. My Bbq sandwich, box of onion rings, and butterscotch shake all knocked it out of the park. I found the secret sauce here, I can see why they have been around a long time. Dairy delight is a long time staple of the okolona area of Louisville located on Preston Highway in bittersweet shopping center across from Southern high school and next door to St. Rita's. Cozy little dessert shop that does offer some small food options like hot dogs. However, the main attraction is the ice creams. You walk to an order window they get your order, ring you up then you move over to the next window and wait for your ice creams/order to come out one by one. They have about 4 picnic tables usually that is out on the uncovered portion of the patio and about another 3-4 more along the side of the establishment that is under a covered portion of the patio. I've been coming to this establishment since I was about 8 years old when my parents moved into the area. They still live in okolona, so do my in laws and my kids go to school next door. So, we still hit up dairy delight a few times a year. They have very good ice cream here. My whole family loves it. My personal favorite is a chocolate dipped chocolate ice cream cone (I believe at one point they called it a brown Darby). But over the years I've sampled everything here. They have really good banana splits and hot fudge Sundays. The only thing that I'm not a big fan of is there version of a blizzard that at one (still may be ) was called a glacier. They have the popular toppings like a blizzard (Reese, Oreo, m&m). However it just does not stand up to the real thing. The food options like the hot dogs are solid. For an ice cream shop you don't expect much food wise so it's a nice bonus. One of my personal favorite things about dairy delight is they take credit cards. It's astounding to me how many Ice cream shops are cash only still. Overall this is a great establishment and it's no shock that it's a long time staple of okolona. On nice sunny days they are always pretty crowded so I think it has the ability to continue to be. I've got so many great memories here from my childhood with my parents, to becoming a pre teen/teen and old enough to walk here on summer days and hang with friends to bringing my 4 kids and there classmates and friends over for a bite. Their selection of food and treats are great, but their prices are rather high. As I was waiting for my order, I noticed that several of the small bags of chips for sale by the pickup window were out of date. It would be nice to have a fan for the outdoor seating area; even in the shade it is very hot and humid 2022. The young lady who took and prepared my order was very friendly and courteous and I didn't have to wait long for my order to be prepared. A friend of mine found mold on one of her hot dog buns, from a coney dog with sauce that she has purchased from them before. Their location is convenient and there is plenty of parking. Their nacho chips have always been fresh and never stale (I usually get stale chips from The Barrel of Fun off Smyrna). read more

Friendly staff and fair prices. Me and my daughter went for milkshakes, and they were awesome. I had an XL milkshake, and it was huge. They have lots of flavors, and you can mix them however you want. I chose a Strawberry and Banana milkshake, and it's was amazing, probably the best I've ever had. They used real strawberries, too, not strawberry syrup. I haven't tried their food, but I bet it's all really good. The atmosphere is nice. The ambiance is nice and relaxing. There are picnic tables in the shade to sit and relax at while you enjoy your drinks/food. Will definitely be back again. read more

If you ever want a dessert do not under any circumstance pass this place up! This is not only a place where everything on the menu is top notch, but the atmosphere is a fun family-centric summer night. Their glaciers taste like DQ, but, ya know, BETTER. Ordered a hotdog that was spoiled, asked for something else and she refused, still hadn't gotten all of my order and she claimed i didn't order my last shake, she refused to let me see the piece of notebook paper that she took the order on & just gave me my shake. Very disappointed with the level (or lack there of) service that my family and I received today. Stopped here to celebrate my mother in laws 86th birthday. All she wanted was a sundae. Service was a little slow but there was a line and only two women working. We ordered a butterscotch sundae, a hot fudge cake, a strawberry shortcake glacier and a banana pudding glacier. My order was prepared as quick as the two could get it done. And it was Delish. The only issue I have with the place is that the woman handling cash at the window also made the hot fudge cake sundae. She reached under the counter and pulled out a brownie with her bare hands. She did not wash her hands between handling cash and fondling my cake. I brought this to her attention and she promptly corrected the issue by washing hands and remaking my order. I did praise them on the 96 A grade posted in the window and said they got a good grade and they should practice it at all times.
