I pour myself a cup of delicious French Roast Coffee and my bagel is ready. The bagel is perfect. It has a nice chew, just a little too big but thats my personal taste. This spot is pure Brooklyn, with some great sounding sandwiches. Trust me, I looked over the menu and wanted to try everything on the menu. The #6 was a fantastic choice, Fresh Brooklyn Italian bread with a perfectly Fried Chicken Cutlet and topped with Roasted Peppers, Fresh Mozzarella and completed with an Oil Balsamic drizzle. Both are very different, both are great. If you want something savory and warm- go with the #4. If you want something that's more 'Italian' and cold cut oriented with a hint of sweetness, go with the #7. Charlie's doesn't really overcomplicate their recipes. The menu is a bit long (given the different combinations), but that's because their experiments are tried and true. The bread is excellent, not sure if made in-house but they're light, toasted, holds the sandwich 'innards' well (though some tectonic sliding iykwim) but still makes for a perfect big bite. Now these are not MASSIVE heroes like Lioni's (this is a good thing), but do consider these sandwiches more of an indulgence/treat. Well worth the trip/price.
