My girls took a chance on a couple of burgers (burger = $5.54; cheeseburger = $5.99) which they said were very satisfying. My turkey sandwich with Swiss cheese ($5.81) on a hoagie roll was packed with turkey. There is a condiments bar so you may prep your burgers and sandwiches your way. I kind of like that. The crew working the cafe was friendly and quick. Everything you order or want to purchase may be paid for at the cafe counter. The restrooms were okay; however, one of the women's toliets was tricky to flush especially for kids. My mug busted by the time I got it home. I was super bummed about that because it was a really cool blue mug with black painted ceramic inside. Dammit, Jenni. Lol.

Even the landlord was present and eager to share how far the building has come. Housed in a historic building that used to be a bank, the bookstore retains charming elements like the original safe, adding a unique touch to the atmosphere. Jack and Annie, the cleverly named resident parakeets, provided a delightful soundtrack of chirps to the browsing experience. Unsurprisingly, the decor features owls in every nook and cranny, and each room has cozy chairs inviting you to settle in with a good read. It seemed like the inside was her realm while the husband told us that the rock gardens surrounding the business were all his. The selection is truly amazing and I found both cacti specimens that I had been searching for (and then some). This will be a stop for us whenever we are in these here parts again. I found succulents here that I've never seen anywhere, including at nurseries in southern California that I visit twice yearly. One in particular, Chinese dunce cap, I've been hunting for for two years during my travels and have finally found it here, in Amarillo, Texas of all places! I have had the opportunity to buy it online, but I prefer to buy in person from quality nurseries. They have helpful photos with descriptions and directions for care posted above most of the plants. As we walked through the succulent greenhouse Tracy walked along with us offering helpful advice and taking our picks to the counter so we didn't have to carry them around. Afterward we went to the outdoor/perennial area where we were met by Val and she graciously offered us a guided tour through their lovely rock/cactus garden pointing out plants that are hardy for our growing zone. We had a wonderful time and will definitely go back every time we visit Amarillo!
