Cute little retail shop inside the Palo Duro park, that serves pretty good burgers! The server was friendly and we got our burger pretty quickly. The only note would be on the cheese fries..... the cheese was a bit heavy for our taste, and we probably should have opted to add bacon to balance out the cheese. The Palo Duro Trading Post was an unexpectedly good place for a quick lunch stop and a really good souvenir shop. This is virtually the one-stop shop in Palo Duro Canyon for a restroom, cafe with a grill, food to-go, and a small grocery section, and a souvenir shop. My girls took a chance on a couple of burgers (burger = $5.54; cheeseburger = $5.99) which they said were very satisfying. My turkey sandwich with Swiss cheese ($5.81) on a hoagie roll was packed with turkey. There is a condiments bar so you may prep your burgers and sandwiches your way. I kind of like that. The crew working the cafe was friendly and quick. Everything you order or want to purchase may be paid for at the cafe counter. The restrooms were okay; however, one of the women's toliets was tricky to flush especially for kids. My mug busted by the time I got it home. I was super bummed about that because it was a really cool blue mug with black painted ceramic inside. Dammit, Jenni. Lol. read more

As a trading post/cafe in a state park, this almost checked every box. I enjoyed it and would recommend it. Not that you have much choice this far out into the nothingness. There's likely not an alternate spot within 20 miles, but if there were - it would still hold there own. When you come in the "trading post" is on the right and the "cafe" is on the left. Cash registers conveniently in the middle. Bathrooms (well maintained) are in the back right. The Trading Post had a TON of stuff. Both for the park and to entertain the youngsters in your caravan. Books, games, magnets, tons of t-shirts, hats, you name it, they got it. Not bad pricing either. The cafe is the only restaurant around. The boys with us really enjoyed the grilled cheese sandwiches. The fries were pretty solid fare and I REALLY enjoyed the burger more than I thought I would. The chef makes it and brings it to your table. They must describe you because he came right to us in a crowd. There is even a condiment bar with onions, lettuce and the usual. Soda fountain for refills. Then there's a ton of old time snacks and treats that you can choose from. The only thing that keeps this from 5-stars is the crazy amount of flies in the place. Maybe they need some fly traps or something. Didn't diminish the place, but they were annoying. Would definitely stop again. Probably would go eat in my own car, though. read more

This was a pretty nice little pit stop as you're driving through the Palo Duro Canyon. They have a whole room full of various souvenirs for all ages and a little lunch area with burgers and sandwiches and drinks. I just needed something to tide me over till dinner so I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich. It was grilled perfectly on the outside but the cheese wasn't completely melted on the inside. They had a counter with condiments and such so I put a thin slice of tomato on each half, a delicious slice of dill pickle on each half and a sprinkle of onion slices on each half. Nothing more was needed. It was delicious. The girls were very nice and one of them even noticed I didn't have a drink so she offered to bring me a water. Then she gave me a tip that there were a couple of wild turkeys I might want to look at around the side of the building. Unfortunately the turkeys didn't want to be looked at as much as I wanted to look so they trotted away when I came in view, but I still enjoyed seeing them. If you need a place to take break, I recommend this. read more

After hiking in Palo Duro we ate a burger at the trading post. It was very good. Plus we had Blue Bell ice cream for dessert. Perfect location in the park after visiting for the day. Friendly staff and good serve. They have different types of supplies if camping, plus food items , plus souvenirs. Great little place. read more

The Palo Duro trading post is at the bottom of the Palo Duro Canyon nearCanyon Texas. If you're in the canyon enjoying the spectacular scenery and a beautiful day, stop at the trading post for a really good lunch. The menu is limited to I think eight or 10 items and when I saw the prices I thought well I'm gonna get this puny little cheeseburger. But no I got a really good large cheeseburger and fries. I was able to add my own lettuce tomato onion chili peppers. My only complaint with the place was I could not keep the tomatoes in my sandwich!! And after driving and walking around in the canyon for the rest of the afternoon we stopped back at the trading post and had some really good ice cream. Don't forget to walk around the back of the trading post and spend a few minutes in the bird blind and watch the Cardinals and the other birds! read more

I was pleased to find such nice people and good food right inside the Park. The selections of ice cream and sandwiches, as well as the sandwich bar and selection of fountain drinks are all exemplary and way better than it has to be. The mango ice cream bar is a delicious addition. We made a point of returning before our trip was over simply due to the nice owner and good food. There is also a nice bird blind to the side of the building where we saw a delightful bath taken by a cardinal and a wild turkey. read more

The only restaurant in the state park. I was pleasantly surprised with the food quality and price. I would certainly recommend it!

Friendly staff. Cheap and delicious food. Affordable souvenirs. Last minute camping stuff. Definitely worth the time.
