Oh my, if you have had cheese fondue at one of those chain places in the US, it has absolutely nothing on this! This is real cheese folks....and as it cooks down, the crusty bottom layer is such a treat, that somehow you will manage to finish it even after insisting you cannot eat another bite of cheese! The bread served with the fondue is wonderful as well; fresh and crusty, with sunflower seeds baked in. The salads that come with the fondue were wonderful too. The vegetables were fresh, and the dressing clearly house made. Service was fabulous! Our server was delightful, and even offered to bring us tap water along with our beer and wine which is almost unheard of most places in Europe. The atmosphere was cozy and comfortable. They have a play area for kids which is great for helping parents relax and enjoy their meal. Do not miss this place if you are in the Hasliberg area!

The texture was smooth and the flavor was consistent with cheese fondues I've had elsewhere, even quite similar to how my wife occasionally makes it. For dessert, a chocolate fondue with a plate of bananas, strawberries, and pineapple. This is a good way to indulge on chocolate. Service was patient and fine, slow at the end of the meal trying to get her attention for the bill.

We didn't have a reservation (mid-September) but the host was beyond kind on sneaking us in. A little table in the back was perfect for us and I'm eternally grateful for her kindness. This restaurant feels like a home and they treat you like family. We felt very comfortable and eagerly perused the menu. This is a more new-Swiss style offering and we had to be selective in our choice - we both went with the steak (one big, one small). Being used to American steakhouses my wife was less than impressed. However, I found my 300g steal to be wonderfully cooked, tasty (not busting with flavor as it wasn't seasoned with anything), and filling! The portion was HUGE and I could barely finish it! It fit the bill after a long day of hiking though! Leaving absolutely content with the whole experience I can confidently say that Bären was my favorite meal in Wegen... dare I say all of Switzerland! Oh!
