I usually order Papa John's online for pickup and have no issues, but today's delivery experience was disappointing. My order had a delivery window of 2:39 to 2:49 PM. Around 2:10 PM it moved from baking to quality check, yet the window passed with no delivery. It didn't switch to "out for delivery" until around 2:50 PM. By 3:30 PM, I called for an update and was told it would be another 15 minutes. When the pizzas arrived, they were cold and underwhelming. I ordered a pizza from Papa John. I stated that I wanted it handed to me. I have a problem walking and I usually give a tip when I order and when I receive my order. The pizza was $20 and with the fees the order was over $40. The driver parked in front of my house but would not come into the yard or to the steps. There are no words for our experience. It was more than we expected. It made us feel young again. Their automated messaging service was so kind and loving. We called 9 times in one hour. The pizza is great but the service is terrible. I placed an online order at 11:54pm my email confirmation stated 33-43 minutes for estimated time of arrival. At 12:02am I get a call from the store saying they only had one driver and it would be 45 minutes to an hour because he has 6 delivers ahead. I said I would wait, my guests were hungry at that exact moment so we were cool with waiting. After waiting for over an hour I called the store at 2:34am. Surprisingly someone answered. The same person who had called me at 12:02am. I explained to him that no one ever came. He told me had been having issues with this driver all day and He placed me on hold. When he returned, he said that my order was cancelled because the driver stated he could not make contact with me. What???!!! I was apologized to and the call ended. So I went to my email to see if I got a notification saying my ordered was cancelled. To my surprise... my order was cancelled at 12:04am. Right after we had hung up the phone when he called to tell me the delivery would be longer than 33-43 minutes. I was lied to so at this point I'm furious and hangry. I called back got no answer... so I called first thing Sunday morning. Spoke with the general manger who was very nice and handled my issue. So why am I here? If you look closely, you see a strand of hair in my bread sticks. I called Papa Johns to let them know, not to cause a scene or anything but to just simply ask them to be more careful next time and that's exactly what I said to the girl who answered the phone. She apologized and stated that next time I order from them, they will remake my order and deliver it for free. She stated that she has put a note in the system. About two weeks later I decided to give it a try again and I explained exactly what I was told by the girl to the person taking my order. I was told that there wasn't a note left in my "profile" and that they can't do anything about it. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, as some days, things may just be off. Not to pile on but service certainly hasn't improved. Over the last four years a typical delivery has dropped from 25 minutes to an hour. There have been two occasions where the delivery was almost two hours and one delivery that I am still awaiting. The last delivery was fast-- a bit over 30 minutes-- and I commended the driver and tipped nearly five dollars. Imagine my annoyance when I found the two pizzas were smooshed against the side of the box! I'm out. The 'za has nothing going for it except convenience, and it isn't that convenient for me.
