Papa's is BACK! I live out of state so I don't get to come here often. The last time I was here was about a year ago, and I could tell something changed from the quality I was used to. I'm in town for a couple of days so when I came in tonight, I was happy to learn that they have gone back to the quality ingredients they used to use. The cheese on the pizza is amazing again. Papa's Italian definitely feels more like a casual neighborhood pizza spot, and for that type of restaurant, it mostly met expectations. Customer service was fine overall, though there was some confusion finding our order at pickup. The food unfortunately seemed like it had been sitting awhile, as most of it was not very hot when we arrived on time. The bread side was extremely hard and crispy, the mac and cheese bites were overcooked, and the pizza itself was okay but lacked flavor. That said, the fettuccine Alfredo was genuinely tasty and the favorite of the night for everyone. The restaurant seemed busy with lots of regulars coming and going, so perhaps we caught them on an off night. Perhaps we'd give them another try in the future if we travel back that way. read more

My wife and I moved to the Zimmerman area two years ago and discovered Papa's Italian. Great homemade food, outstanding service and a very pleasant ambience. The prices are fair too. With that said, we recently had a less than great dining experience there and were not sure why. The service was outstanding as usual, but something tasted different. My wife ordered her favorite dish, the Manicotti and immediately notice it didn't taste the same. She was disappointed. We do not know why... bad night for the chef? Change of recipe? Cheaper ingredients? We will continue to patronize this restaurant for now, but I hope this isn't a sign of decline. Papa's has always been a bright spot in Zimmerman's barren culinary dessert. read more

The spaghetti sauce is outstanding. The taste of fresh basil made it the best I've ever had.Their meatballs are also delicious. However I can't recommend their Italian beef sandwich. It was dry and lacking in flavor but I learned something. I learned that not all Italian beef sandwiches are "Chicago style". They should be though. read more

Every time I'm in Zimmerman I will absolutely get a pizza and momma sub from papas. I don't care if I just came from an AYCE buffet, I WILL ABSOLUTELY be stopping at papas and grabbing takeout for later. This is a small no frills restaurant with great food and prices. My husband enjoyed the gyro salad and I had the half portion of the lasagna. OMG! This was hands down the best lasagna I've ever had. We came back and tried the deep dish style for their pizzas, after trying the Zimmerman Special in regular crust previously. I would recommend the deep dish style, although the crust was almost too thick at the crust end. The staff was very friendly. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants around the Zimmerman area. Great food, & service. The place isn't fancy, but homey & comfortable. I haven't had a bad meal there, or from being picked up. I'm working my way through the menu, & recently had their Philly Stromboli, & oven baked wings. It was all delicious! The prices are decent, which is hard to say these days. read more

While venturing through Zimmerman... there aren't too many restaurants in this town, but this one stood out. We decided to give it a try. When we went in, the restaurant was chilly... it was -9 out to be fair. Haha. My niece tried the spaghetti and she claims to be a spaghetti connoisseur. She loved it. You get a heaping amount with homemade sauce paired with a nice dinner salad and garlic toast. Great value. The salad was so good! It was fancy for a house salad... cheese, olives, tomatoes and house made croutons. Yum! I ordered the single chicken taco pizza. I don't get taco pizza at many places due to lost being made with beef. I liked it. They cooked the chicken in taco spices and that gave it nice flavor. Papa's Italian is underrated. Ignore the haters. This place has some of the best tasting pizza in Central Minnesota. To look at the place (hidden off of 169 behind the Dairy Queen), you'd never expect it. It's a small, local place. But I kid you not - excellent pizza. It has a fantastic crust - crisp throughout - and a tasty, hearty sauce. You can order the hand-tossed or thin crust. You can't go wrong with either. The prices are decent. You won't break the bank. I can't speak to the other food, but you'll enjoy the pizza. They're available in a variety of sizes, from personal to large. The service I received was very friendly, from both the cook and the cashier. This is a small place. If you come in with a group or a large family, you'll practically fill the place. The décor is a bit dated - mirrors on the wall - but it adds to the local charm of the place. Do yourself a favor and try one of their pizzas today. You won't regret it. read more

OUTSTANDING! If you only eat at one place in Zimmerman; this is your destination. We ordered the Chili Spaghetti & the Italian Beef Calzone for take out. Every part of both entrées was made from scratch and was bursting with flavor. The chili was chunky and had just the slightest amount of heat. The crust for the calzone was crisp and browned perfectly without being burnt. The Italian Beef filling, cheese, green peppers and onions were juicy; all without making the crust soggy. I've been eating and enjoying papa's for 30 years. Sadly my last 2 pizza's were less then stellar. I had my very first bad experience, several months ago. I thought it was a one off. Unfortunately when I ordered again this past Saturday the pizza was again cold and lacking in flavor from my past experience. I can't believe I was here this week and last week. The first time I was on my way to Lake Mille Lacs and spotted it out of the corner of my eye. They have the coolest clock that belongs in every kitchen. It's a pizza and the numbers are pepperoni, it looks ceramic. Also, they have one of the best red sauces in MN. You can also get a half order of spaghetti that I like as an option. On Tues. it's all you can eat spaghetti served with garlic bread. I got a side salad because I love the blue cheese dressing and homemade croutons. A generous glass of coke washes it down just right. The pizza looked really good and is on the list to try. I like the spaghetti sauce better than other places in the TC, however the meatball is kind of puckish and lacks flavor, so I'll skip it next time. In Zimmerman there aren't many options but this is good. 6/30/2011 - I dropped it a star because the service and management decisions are getting strange. I regularly pre-order pizzas to eat-in because the service land kitchen is so slow. They are no longer allowing that. They are also not allowing any changes to the predesigned pizzas. I wanted one of their combos with onions only on one side and I was not allowed to do that. I was told the kitchen gets too confused and often gets it wrong. Atmosphere: Definitely Italian with wine wallpaper, a pizza clock, and grape vine decor. It's a bit cheesy, but very local restaurant type feel. Menu: Very affordable! I was worried there would be nothing up here in Zimmerman when we moved a few years back. Well I was right about that but my husband and I absolutely LOVE this place. We have always ordered take out or delivery. To this point we have never had any issues with them mixing things up. We were pleasantly surprised by this place. My husband is a fantastic cook and we rarely eat out but if we do this is the place for us 99% of the time. I would highly recommend their food. Had a business meeting in Princeton that went long and we were starving! My coworker tried to direct us to the Zimmerman Bowl but it was completely boarded up. I saw the yellow lettered sign PIZZA calling us over so we gave it a shot. I'm glad we did! We got there around 12:30, seated ourselves and checked out the buffet. The first trip up, there wasn't much to choose from, just a few slices of pizza left and 2 pieces or garlic bread. However, within 10 minutes there was another order of garlic bread brought out along with another pizza. The pizza was tasty, on thin crust with char marks on the bottom. I tried the canadian bacon and the sausage pizza. I also tried the chicken alfredo pasta bake which was quite good and I had a brownie for dessert. I have only had the lunch buffet but all of the food on it is delicious. Pizza, salad, garlic bread with meat sauce, sub sandwiches, and brownies for desert. But even better than the food is the service! The young lady who has been our server the past two time is the best! She is great with out 3 and 1 year old daughters and she is so friendly and attentive.
