A group of friends and I went here for a friend's birthday back in July. When my friend said the vibe was "90s MTV Spring Break," I thought they were exaggerating, but it's accurate. If that's the vibe you're looking for, you'll find it here. Personally, I wasn't a fan of the DJ yelling "Show us your t*ts" on the mic every 30 seconds with the speakers loud enough for people 100 yards away to hear it like they were right next to it. Food was okay, but not for the price. And the server didn't put in our order for 45 minutes, apparently. Drinks were horribly inconsistent. Either way too strong or nothing in it. To top it all off, they ended up overcharging us for stuff and wouldn't refund it when we called about it later. So if you want to get overcharged to have the 90s MTV Spring Break experience with okay food, bad drinks, and worse service, this is the place to go. read more

We came her to hang out. Have a few drinks and enjoy the atmosphere. There inside area required a bottle service at 5pm in afternoon. So we went to patio and paid $80 for 10 can bucket of beers Dos Equis and $10 Kamakazi shots. So after 10 beers and 8 shots it was $140. Now I'm not cheap but dayum. That's cold blooded prices. We left at 8pm and asked for a wrist band to come back since our room was across the way. They said nope another $10 bucks each. This is a sizable bar sitting on the beachfront of Rosarito. The entrance to this place sits a few blocks west of the main avenue. There are several pay lots in the surrounding area, and their rates are reasonable. The bar is huge. It has a small seating area close to the entrance, and there are several different areas in which to sit. A short walk inside will get you to the beachfront seating. We got here in the late afternoon. We sat and drank a bit before ordering food. I got the beef tacos, which came in generous portions, and were delicious. The food took quite a while to get to us, but the wait was worth it. The ambient here was chill. There were tons of tourists here, probably looking to escape for a while since everything back home was closed during that time. It was a chill crowd, with a happy vibe. The experience was overall enjoyable. Sometime in the near future, I will come back evening time to party it up like the good old days. read more

So we ordered a round of shots of " Don Julio 70". The tequila was watered down. No we were not drunk. I've purchased many bottles of Don Julio 70 at legitimate stores. Everyone in the group agreed it was watered down. This was our first drink of the day. I told the waiter we were not going to make a big or demand anything for free. We simply let him know it was wrong and that we noticed. We advised him to talk to the bar tender and management because it is wrong , especially at $14 dollars a shot. read more

Came here while at the Baja Beach Fest. The owner also is an owner of the festival so this spot is inside the festival grounds. We started the day here with a round of shots and after the festival was over we came here for a night cap. Even after the festival (at about 2am), this place was still pretty lit. This place is known for their wild spring break parties, but unfortunately I didn't get to see anything crazy happening during our trip here. It was dinner time in June, so nothing was going on in the back area, but I'm pretty sure it gets busier around 11pm or so... We just wanted to make a pit stop here to get some food, so we ordered carne asada fries, tacos, ceviche, a tortilla soup, and a couple of cocktails. Everything came out at once and looked pretty tasty. The food was just okay though, not authentic and catered to Americans. The drinks also didn't have enough alcohol, so we had to ask for another shot to put in the Scorpion Bay LOL. Service was surprisingly good though- they made sure we were taken care of. read more

The atmosphere and music is good, but I do not recommend going for drinks. Pregame if you can. They overcharged us for only a few drinks, shots, and a bucket of beer ($700). They charge in US dollar. I'm pretty sure it's cheaper in the US. They knew we were lived in the US despite us being Mexican and Spanish speakers. They took advantage of us. The workers are nice and act like they care, but they do not. They are just scamming you and want your money. So, go at your own risk and be ready to spend a good amount of money. read more

The place is cool. The food is pretty decent. The only comment I have is about the security guards. It's not our waiter's job to play security and that's because they're running around doing their job. But if there are three single women around on a SUNDAY afternoon and some guys keep bugging us at the table it should be taken care of. The answer shouldn't be "oh did you get touched? Because if not then just try to ignore them." FYI papas and beer security...us being on our table and them continuing to bug us means there is an issue if we bring it up, especially after they have to be screamed at to leave us alone and they approached us 4 times. What can I say, we were sat down right away and given a table right up against sand with a perfect view of the beach. The drinks were light first round so after letting Oscar know (bar manager who was walking around checking on everyone) he wasted no time bringing the tequila bottle over to the table himself and making sure we were taken care of. So yesterday was Saturday I came from Bakersfield to have a good time with a group of freinds and we did until we seen our Check Margaritas at 15 dllrs which at the bar was I believe 11 or 12 dllrs and we did buy alot of drinks so yeah it did add up shots for 15 dllrs which we asked for house tequila which were paying at the bar not even a fraction of that!! Imma just say that I started coming to Papas & Beer in my early 20s. We would either rent a van or come in 2 cars from Salinas, California which is about a 10 hour drive. Drinking and what not the whole way to Baja. Fast forward to 2019, came with my friends a lot wiser and older. This place has blew up! It's huge! I walked around the section that was there when I was a wild 20-something year old. They don't seem to even use that part anymore. Last week while getting ready to head back home in San Diego, I wanted to show my brother where my friends and I would tear it up. It was the morning on a week day and we were the only customer. While I am showing brother around, this older man approached us and asked if we wanted a tour. He showed us everything, even let us in the green room and on stage. Rogelio "Roy" Comacho is a very charismatic fellow. He told us so many stories about his life and how he ended up in Rosarito Beach after being deported 9 years ago after living in Las Vegas almost all his life. My husband ventured here before our family made it down due to recommendations from co workers. He liked it so we were excited to try it. we got a beach side table and they were welcoming and kind & playing fun music. It wasn't busy. We had a late lunch. So...1:30pm. Anyway. We ordered drinks and they came quickly and we placed our order for the fries, ceviche, wings, and a couple tacos. The waitress told us our food would be out in about 10 minutes. 10 minutes came a went and we waited over half an hour before she came to inform us that the kitchen was slammed. However, it wasn't that busy. Their main location and the one on the beach was not busy. It took over an hour for our food to arrive. I looked at my husband and said, they lost our order. When the food came the wings were cold and the fries were warm...at this point we were hungry. The ceviche was good...then came the time to get the bill. She gave us a total verbally without a receipt but she had written down on the notepad what we ordered. We even reminded her to add the wings to the ticket. After she walked away. We did some math and thought that it didn't sound correct. They over charged us 80$US. So we asked for the ticket and there were several meals/drinks added on that we did not order. We got cash back but we literally had to sit at a table with them and add our ticket up for them to double check because they shorted us after giving us cash back because they still shorted us. We did tip 15% which in this instance was generous. We tip a min of 20%. My takeaway-Ask for a detailed receipt. Check your ticket before you pay. We will not return. Wasn't worth the hassle. read more
