I've been shopping at Paper Work for years. Yes, I'm a local and this is one of, if not the best, local shops to buy "local" from a lot of locals. Over the last several months I've been decorating a shipping container and Paper Work was the first place I thought of for art. My new space looks amazing with all the different pieces I got from here and I feel good knowing I'm supporting locals rather than Target. I give Paper Work 5 stars when I wish I could give them 10. The staff is amazing, the owner is incredible and I always find something for me or for a gift. If you live in Austin, you should come here more often. If you are visiting, this is the place to shop and buy gifts for everybody who couldn't come to Austin with you. read more

I had visitors from out of town so of course SoCo is where I'll be taking them. Paper Work is one of those stores that steps up the souvenir game and makes tourists feel like they're 'in Austin.' I know it sounds contrived, like going on a canned safari or something but I think there's a legit-ness to Paper Work. Yes, there's a bunch of quirky, Austin-y stuff but it's all from local artists and not something made in China that's just made to look like it's from here. On top of that there's a lot of pop culture/mash-ups that makes a man-boy like me want to linger and consider if buying a set of prints where the Ninja Turtles in full samurai armor is something I NEED or just really, really, really want. If I'm ever in the need for a unique gift to send to someone with that 'Austin' vibe I'd come here...but not on a weekend. read more

Amazing! I have visited Paper Work a couple of times over the years when out and about. Yesterday I stopped in just on a whim to shop. I noticed that they carried a local brand that I loved, "Ornamental Things." The Paper Work employee who was greeting us must have noticed that their section for this brand immediately caught my eye as I darted over there stating "this is the brand of that necklace that I lost!" I just moved recently and lost some jewelry in the process, including one of my absolute favorite pieces, the "Heart Wave" necklace by Ornamental Things. I was searching over there to see if they carried the exact piece that I was missing, but sadly they didn't. The Paper Work Employee (I am still disappointed I did not catch her name) approached me and asked which exact piece was I looking for? Stating that she could reach out to the owner of Ornamental Things to see if they had more of that piece in their stock. Sure enough the employee snapped a photo I had of myself wearing the necklace and sent it off to the owner, she was able to locate one (Thank goodness!) and I was able to purchase it! It is on its way being shipped to my home. I am so thankful for the Paper Work employee who went above and beyond to not only make my experience amazing but provide one of a kind service and replace something truly special to me. Gotta get my paper work in! This is such a cool shop for local art. They've got a ton of stuff that exemplifies the Austin lifestyle (weird) and the Texas look (cool). My favorite stuff is their clothes- the T-shirts are always fun and witty. The patches are made locally and have all kinds of inside Austin jokes. There's stacks of coasters, stickers, mugs- you name it. They've got people who can print anything on anything. None of this stuff is made abroad, it's all sourced locally from local artists who are using Austin as their muse. It's such a beautiful and unique city, this is a great place to get souvenirs to show off your Texas pride. The prices are quite reasonable, especially for the location, right on South Congress in a wonderful old building. The staff is so friendly here and really fit the Austin vibe. Everything was priced really well considering its literal artwork, some of the crafted items are a little bit more pricey. When I travel to new places, I love finding shops that celebrate the vibe of the city. Paper Work is exactly that, it is a total dream of locally produced art, decor, gifts, and merch that will have you celebrating your trip to Austin. There is so much to see here! I loved taking a look at handmade local jewelry, fun housewares, apparel, and more. Towards the back of the store are a slew of prints. I became obsessed with some by the artist Jon-Michael Frank and also got a super cool olive print, too. My two prints came to a total of less than $50 which I thought was a steal. Most things I looked at were very affordable. The staff is super friendly and excited to share info about the artisans featured in the store. If you're on Congress, you MUST stop in here! read more

Paper Work is a store on South Congress Avenue that showcases items made by local Austin artists. It's such an interesting store to browse, and you'll find a variety of unique, creative pieces. Every employee I interacted with was very nice and helpful, which made the experience even better. I ended up buying a few postcards. However, they were on the pricier side (five postcards cost me around $16), but I'm happy to support local artists. One thing to note is that they have a $5 minimum for credit card transactions, so keep that in mind if you're planning to buy just one or two small items. Parking is paid street parking along a busy street where you'll need to angle the back of your car in. However, you might be able to find some paid neighborhood parking nearby if you want an easier time parking and getting out. A fun highlight of the store is the quirky machine in the back where, for just $1 (four quarters), you can get a mini piece of art. If you're looking for small, unique Austin or Texas souvenirs, this would be a great spot to check out. If you're exploring South Congress, Paper Work is definitely worth a stop for anyone who loves supporting local artists and discovering one-of-a-kind treasures. read more

Why has it taken me so long to explore Paper Work, this is literally a dream store. You'll not only find PLENTY of handcrafted items, but it's so well organized you'll be perusing every aisle and section. Paper Work is like a live action "I Spy" book and the more you look in every corner, the more details and pieces you find. Everything was very reasonably priced and what stood out to me was how it wasn't a tourist trap with typical Austin memorabilia. The items were very intentional and this shop is for locals and tourists alike. Ended up walking away with a beautiful locally-made card and I'm already planning my trip because there was so many more items I wanted to take a bit more time with. Within 15 minutes there was like 10 items I wanted to buy. My favorite part were the prints so I have to come back and give myself an hour to sort through them all. If your looking for Austin local art, goods and gifts -- THIS IS YOUR PLACE! The place is much bigger than you think and although there is local art sprinkled through the store the back room is dedicated just for art. They have everything from shirts to greetings cards to koozies to stickers to mugs to.... well you name it! It's clean, they are stocked up with all kinds of merchandise (really something for everyone), the staff was helpful & friendly, and it was just a nice refreshing place to pop into in between food and drink hopping! I didn't buy anything, but I already regretted it the second I left the S. Congress area, so needless to say next time I'm in town, I'll be back! read more

Perfect shop for cool gifts, including Austin souvenirs! They seem to support local artists and had a great mix of clothing, earrings, prints, and other fun artsy items. Prices were reasonable and the employees were very nice. They even found us a box and carefully wrapped our fragile purchases so we didn't have to worry about them breaking on the plane. read more

I'd like to say that in the world of "customer relations", Paper Work is the finest I've ever encountered in my lifetime. I needed to do a long distance gift exchange and it was offered freely, no charges or fees when I called and spoke to a sales associate. I received the exchange item today with a generous gift included! I had sent a $10 bill with my return item to be used "however" since there was no charge for postage.
